New York Mayor Says Drunk Driving Is Not a Serious (aka Deportable) Offense

It is unconscionable for New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio to be so dangerously ignorant about drunk driving. During a discussion with CNN’s Jake Tapper about the city’s sanctuary status, the mayor asserted that drunk-driving illegal aliens are not a danger to citizens.

DE BLASIO: So, we differentiate. Anyone who is violent, anyone who is a serious threat to society, we agree we will work with the federal partners and they get deported. But we are not going to see, with a half-a-million undocumented people here — this would be true for 11 to 12 million undocumented folks in this country, the vast majority of whom are law- abiding — we are not going to see families torn apart over a very minor offense.

TAPPER: But is grand larceny or drunk driving a very minor offense?

DE BLASIO: Drunk driving that does not lead to any other negative outcome, I could define as that.

The CNN show transcript is here.

The problem is that habitual drunk drivers don’t kill anyone — until they do. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reports that the average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before the first arrest. In 2015, 10,265 people died in alcohol-impaired crashes, up by nearly 300 from the year before.

Of the Americans killed by illegal aliens, probably the largest group is the category of citizens killed by drunk-driving illegal aliens. Here are just a handful:

Below, 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed in Omaha just a day after her college graduation by one of Obama’s protected DREAMers, reported here: ”Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.”

Mesa, Arizona, Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed by a head-on collision with a previously arrested but not deported drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood alcohol level of .24 percent.

Young Alabama couple Tad Mattle and Leigh Anna Jimmerso were killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit and who had at least four previous DUIs.

Houston Officer Kevin Will died when a drunk Mexican crashed through a police barrier at 90 mph and hit Will as he was standing on the roadside investigating an accident.

Three-year-old Marten Kudlis was run down in a Colorado ice cream shop by a 16-times-arrested drunk-driving illegal alien. Two adult women were also killed when the truck smashed into the building.

Best friends Tessa Tranchant, 16, left, and Allison Kunhardt, 17, died when their car, stopped at a light, was hit by a blotto-drunk illegal alien, who had three previous alcohol-related convictions but was not deported.

There are many more stories of preventable drunk-driving deaths caused by illegal aliens, but I’ll stop.

Massachusetts Sanctuary Mayors Are Called Out for Violating Federal Law

A couple of Bay State mayors have been waving their diversity flag and doubling down in support of sanctuary, like Boston’s Mayor Martin Walsh who promises a safe space for foreign invaders in his city’s city hall:

Sanctuary Suites: Defiant mayor vows to harbor illegals at Boston City Hall, Boston Herald, January 26, 2017

“If people want to live here, they’ll live here,” Walsh said yesterday. “They can use my office. They can use any office in this building. Any place they want to use. They’ll be able to use this building as a safe space.”

Why do liberal mayors think immigration to America is a right? Should the billions of poor people on the planet be permitted to move here just because they want to?

The mayors say they want to keep their communities safe, but crime victims of illegal aliens see it differently because sanctuary cities are less safe for American citizens.

Milford, Massachusetts, resident Maureen Maloney objected to the arrogant mayors because she lost her son Matthew Denice when a drunk-driving illegal alien dragged him to death. The Ecuadoran alien, Nikolas Guaman, had a long rap sheet but was protected by Massachusetts’ sanctuary policy, allowing him to remain and eventually kill 23-year-old Matthew.

Below, in 2014 Maureen Maloney gave a victim’s statement at the sentencing of Guaman for manslaughter.

In the current matter of sanctuary, Maloney said her family’s loss will never go away.

Grieving mom calls out pols grandstanding on sanctuary issue, Boston Herald, January 27, 2017

Any grandstanding mayor who actually harbors illegal immigrants should be prosecuted by the feds, said the grieving mother of a Milford man killed by a motorist who faces deportation after his jail sentence is up. . .

“The ripple effect of losing Matthew is not just the pain and suffering of me and his immediate family,” she stressed. “He had a longtime girlfriend. They were planning on getting married. He had a huge circle of friends and extended relatives. The ripple effect just goes on and on and on.

“I hear them saying that we’re separating these (illegal immigrant) families. Well, my family has been permanently separated. And I can’t call heaven and I can’t visit heaven. I have to go visit a grave,” she said. “The illegals do have other options. My son has no options. He had a very promising life, and it’s gone. There’s no other way to put it.”

She recently spoke on a Boston radio show:

Sheriff Thomas Hodgson of Bristol County Massachusetts won’t accept the liberal do-gooder blather about protecting illegal aliens. He was interviewed on Fox News on Sunday and discussed the illegal aspect of sanctuary policy.

ED HENRY: You might call it a Sanctuary City Showdown. Some mayors are speaking out after president Trump’s executive move to strip funding for sanctuary cities.

BOSTON MAYOR MARTIN WALSH: You are safe in Boston. We will do everything lawful in our power to protect you.

SOMERVILLE MASS. MAYOR JOSEPH CURTATONE: Somerville will stand with you regardless of your race, creed, color, gender. . . We know what makes America great. Continue reading this article

America’s Senator Jeff Sessions Discusses Immigration Enforcement of Violent Illegal Aliens during His Attorney General Hearing

Crime victims of illegal aliens were a topic in the Tuesday hearing for Jeff Sessions’ appointment to be Attorney General in the Trump Administration. Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse brought up the case of Omaha constituent Sarah Root who was killed by an illegal alien just a day after she graduated from college. If that wasn’t bad enough, some local authorities allowed the drunk-driving Honduran Edwin Mejia to post bond and escape. The bond was just $50,000, meaning Mejia needed only 10 percent of that, $5000, to get out of jail and leave the country.

Below, illegal alien Edwin Mejia (left) killed Sarah Root, yet he could post bond even though he was clearly a flight risk.

The systemic lawlessness of the Obama regime has been a plague upon the land and the cause of many preventable deaths caused by illegal aliens. As Senator Jeff Sessions remarked in a hearing about crime victims of illegal aliens, “This administration has consistently and steadfastly placed the goal of amnesty above the goal of public safety.”

Crime victims of illegal aliens are important people to President-elect Trump also, who discussed them (including Sarah) in his acceptance speech and gave three parents a forum to speak at the GOP convention about the loss of their children.

Below, GOP convention attendees carried signs saying “Make America Safe Again!”

In Tuesday’s hearing, details of the conversation between Senators Sasse and Sessions illustrate what an unworkable mess immigration enforcement has become after eight years of its dismantling by Obama.

SENATOR BEN SASSE: Senator Sessions, I’d like to talk a little bit about the Sarah Root case: I know that you and I have discussed it briefly last summer. Sarah Root was woman who was killed a year ago this month in Omaha; she’d just graduated from college and she was killed by a drunken street racer. Omaha authorities believe that this guy had been engaged in similar activity many times in the past. He was an illegal immigrant, he ran into her car, killed her right after her graduation, he was detained by Omaha police, they ultimately notified the department of Homeland Security.

This guy is a flight risk — he was able to post a fairly insignificant bond and he disappeared. The Department of Homeland Security did nothing to detain the guy despite the fact that the Douglas County Sheriff and the Omaha Police Department asked that he be detained. The Obama administration determined that it wasn’t an enforcement priority. Continue reading this article

Parents Miss Daughter Killed by Illegal Alien, Especially at Christmas

The holidays are tough for families when there is an empty spot at the table, particularly so when that person was killed in a preventable crime by an illegal alien. The Washington Times reminded its readers of the costs of open borders on its Friday front page:

sarahrootfamilyfacesadchristmas-wtfpdec23

Below, 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed in Omaha just a day after her college graduation by one of Obama’s protected DREAMers, reported here: ”Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.”.

Candidate Donald Trump made a point of remembering crime victims of illegal aliens during his campaign, sometimes inviting parents onstage with him to speak. He remarked at the GOP convention in his acceptance speech, “Of all my travels in this country, nothing has affected me more deeply than the time I have spent with the mothers and fathers who have lost their children to violence spilling across our border.”

So crime victim families will soon have a friend in the White House, unlike now. The Roots work to keep Sarah’s killer in the news in hopes of his eventual apprehension, and they are confident the Trump administration will initiate policies that will help prevent other illegal aliens from murdering innocent Americans.

Daughter killed by illegal alien in tragedy without justice

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — There was a time when Scott Root and Michelle Wilson-Root looked forward to Christmas, but not this year.

Their 21-year-old daughter, Sarah Root, was killed Jan. 31 by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras accused of plowing into the back of her vehicle as he street-raced while drunk in Omaha, Nebraska. He skipped bail. Nearly a year later, he remains a fugitive.

For the Roots, this is the first Christmas without her, their first since the tragedy put them on a path with President-elect Donald Trump, who brought national attention to the case as part of his call during the election campaign for a crackdown on illegal immigration.

The Roots and their 25-year-old son, Scott Jr., met with and campaigned for Mr. Trump in Iowa. His Nov. 8 victory was their victory, too. That doesn’t make Christmas any easier.

“It’s going to suck,” said Mr. Root, his blank face a contrast to the cheerful green and red decorations at the local Starbucks. “Just like Thanksgiving sucked. Empty.”

It’s not hard to see why Sarah Root’s death resonated with Mr. Trump. The day before she was killed, Sarah graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University, where she carried a 4.0 GPA while working full time at Walgreens.

The 19-year-old driver, also known as Edwin Mejia, had a blood alcohol content of 0.241, three times the legal limit, when his truck rear-ended her Oldsmobile Bravada SUV. Despite Mejia’s history of missing court dates, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused to put a hold on him.

Charged with vehicular homicide, Mejia posted the required $5,000 of the $50,000 bond set by a Nebraska judge and fled. He has been added to ICE’s most-wanted list, although there is no word on his whereabouts.

The case soon came to symbolize a perfect storm of judicial and bureaucratic indifference. Even ICE Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale acknowledged in a letter to Iowa and Nebraska Senate Republicans that “Edwin Mejia should be in custody.”

“The killer of our child is gone,” said Mr. Root. “The judge has no accountability. The federal government, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said he wasn’t an enforcement priority. Now he’s on the top 10 of the ICE list, so he is a priority, but there’s no federal money to catch him. Zero.”

From a political standpoint, the Roots were in the right place at the right time — Iowa, in the middle of a Republican presidential primary.

They connected with Mr. Trump in February and threw their support behind him as he bashed the Obama administration for allowing Mejia to slip through the cracks, first after he entered country as an unaccompanied minor in 2013 and then for refusing to detain him.

“I’ve met Sarah’s beautiful family. But to this administration, their amazing daughter was just one more American life that wasn’t worth protecting,” Mr. Trump said in his July 21 acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. “One more child to sacrifice on the altar of open borders.” Continue reading this article

Trump’s GOP Convention Hears Testimony from Crime Victims of Illegal Aliens

As promised, the Republican convention welcomed crime victims of illegal aliens to tell their stories of preventable suffering, which reflects Donald Trump’s interest in a topic the liberal open borders media prefers to overlook. Three parents told the convention audience how their sons were killed by illegal aliens who should have been deported but weren’t.

Below, the parents: on the left top is Jamiel Shaw Sr., whose son Jamiel (below) was murdered by by an extremely violent illegal alien gangster who was nevertheless released rather deported; on the top center is Mary Ann Mendoza, whose son Brandon (below, an Arizona police officer) was killed by a drunk and drugged illegal alien who stuck Mendoza’s car head-on after driving the wrong way for 35 miles; on the top right is Sabine Durden, whose son Dominic (below) was struck and killed on his motorcycle by an illegal alien who had been convicted of felonies yet was not deported.

ShawMendozaDurdenGOPconvention

Sabine Durden appeared on Fox News the following day to talk more about her son and how government lawlessness endangers all Americans.

SABINE DURDEN: Dominic was 30 years old and he was an incredible spirit, incredible man, the kind of man you would want for a son-in-law. He was on his way to work on his motorcycle to the 911 dispatch center and as he drove down the street, about two miles from the house, an illegal alien without a license without registration, without insurance, drove up the street and turned in front of him and hit him so hard that he threw him into a wall right there on the sidewalk. He died instantly. Continue reading this article

Victims of Illegal Alien Crime Support Donald Trump for President

One of the more notable aspects of Donald Trump’s campaign is the attention he has paid to the victims of illegal alien crime. He has met with family members who lost someone to illegal alien crime and has invited some of them be opening speakers to tell their stories at his rallies.

Below, Jamiel Shaw, standing at the podium, tells a Trump audience about the 2008 murder of his teenaged son who was shot and killed near his home by an exceptionally violent illegal alien gangster who nevertheless had been released onto Los Angeles streets instead of deported. Others on the stage are holding pictures of their relatives also killed by unlawful foreigners.

In the following video, JamIel Shaw is joined by two other parents whose children have been killed by illegal aliens, Mary Ann Mendoza and Sabine Durden:

Job #1 for government is supposed to be public safety. But Washington is willfully failing that task, and Trump’s attention to illegal alien crime reminds the public of how little Obama & co. care about keeping citizens safe from the world’s criminals.

Donald Trump Wins Support From Parents of Illegal Immigrants’ Victims, Wall Street Journal, June 5, 2016

GOP candidate’s effort parallels Hillary Clinton’s outreach to mothers of African-Americans killed in gun violence

Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump is giving a national platform to parents of victims of crimes by illegal immigrants, inviting them to rallies and telling their tragic stories to boost support for hard-line immigration policies.

The families help put a sympathetic face on Mr. Trump’s rhetoric branding Mexican immigrants as criminals and his plans to build a wall along the southern border and to deport millions of people who are here illegally. Those parents who are black and Hispanic also offer Mr. Trump political cover from allegations of racial and ethnic prejudice, most recently for accusing a Mexican-American judge of being biased against him.

Mr. Trump also is drawing intense media attention to what they see as public-safety issues caused by illegal immigration.

Sabine Durden told thousands of people at a Trump rally in Anaheim, Calif., two weeks ago about her 30-year-old son, Dominic, a sheriff’s dispatcher who was killed in a 2012 motorcycle accident by an illegal immigrant truck driver convicted twice of driving under the influence.

Choking back tears, she recalled: “I heard Donald Trump on the television as I walked by talking about illegal immigration and about the cost of American lives and I screamed. Donald Trump became my life savior that day, my hero… Wanting to control the border has nothing to do with racism but all to do with law and order.”

Online video of Mr. Trump kissing and signing posters of her son and other crime victims after the rally has been viewed more than 230,000 times.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump said meeting the parents of children killed by illegal immigrants “reinforced even more” his support for stringent immigration laws.

“Even I didn’t realize how bad it was,” he said. “When you see these families that have been destroyed by people who aren’t supposed to be here, who are criminals…The only way people can understand how severe this crisis is to see the families, and then they see the horror of it.” Continue reading this article

Crime Victim Mother Supports Donald Trump as Immigration Enforcer

It’s reassuring about Donald Trump that despite his sometimes curious personality quirks, he has paid special attention to families who are crime victims of illegal aliens. For example, about a week ago he invited a group of family members onto the stage with him in Costa Mesa CA and asked Jamiel Shaw to speak from the podium. Shaw’s son, an outstanding high school athlete who was scouted by major universities, was shot dead just a few doors from home by a violent illegal alien gangster released from the Los Angeles County jail. Laura Wilkerson, another parent whose son was killed by an illegal alien, was a speaker at an Orlando Trump rally in March. Plus Trump met with crime victim families last July.

Mary Ann Mendoza has been a real trooper to keep her son’s memory alive, along with reminding the public of the preventable nature of the crime that killed him. Sergeant Brandon Mendoza of the Mesa AZ Police was on his way home from work when his car was hit head-on by a drunk illegal Mexican who had driven 35 miles the wrong way on the highway. The alien had been previously arrested for burglary and assaulting a policeman in Colorado, but was not deported. Mary Ann Mendoza was so angered at having her son’s life stolen that she wrote a letter to President Obama.

Below, Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed by a head-on collision with a previously arrested but not deported drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood alcohol level of .24 percent.

Mary Ann Mendoza appeared on Fox News on Saturday morning to discus Trump’s approach to the issue. She supports his strategy of taxing remittances — something I suggested in a 2002 op-ed (Relieve crisis on border with tax on remittances, Houston Chronicle, 12/3/02). Another program she backs is a fund to assist families who have lost a loved one to illegal alien crime, because now they get nothing and the lawbreakers get all sorts of help.

Of course, the best policy for illegal aliens is to keep them out in the first place.

TUCKER CARLSON: Mary Ann Mendoza’s son, police sergeant Brendan Mendoza was killed by an illegal immigrant in 2014, and she supports Donald Trump’s stance on immigration, but will the presumptive nominee change his position once he heads into the general election? Mary Ann Mendoza joins us now to discuss. Mary Ann, it’s nice to see you this morning. So Donald Trump is under pressure from the left of course, but also from the establishment of his own party to stop talking about the border issue. They think it’s divisive; he’s been attacked as a nativist for even bringing this up. What’s your view?

MARY ANN MENDOZA: My view is that I believe that illegal immigration is at the core of a lot of the problems that the United States is facing today — overload on our health system, overload on our welfare system, the schools, and not to mention the illegal crime that happens on a daily basis. House Immigration Committee: Two Mothers Tell of Children Killed by Illegal Aliens

On Tuesday, the House Immigration Subcommittee held a hearing titled The Real Victims of a Reckless and Lawless Immigration Policy: Families and Survivors Speak Out on the Real Cost of This Administration’s Policies.

We have seen crime victim families before, notably in America’s Senator Jeff Sessions’ thorough selection of testimonies last July (see my blog Senate Committee Hears from Families Whose Loved Ones Were Killed by Illegal Alien Criminals). However, the administration wants to import millions of additional Democrats, and a few dead Americans don’t seem to be a prohibitive price.

Chairman Trey Gowdy noted in his opening statement, “Surely we can all agree that protecting the public from violence and lawlessness is the pre-eminent function of government.” (If only the authorities followed that simple principle.)

Congressman Bob Goodlatte is Chair of the full Judiciary Committee and used his opening statement to review some facts about worsening illegal alien crime in America because of the administration’s permissive policies:

BOB GOODLATTE: I also want to express my deepest sympathy to the family members of Sarah Root and Joshua Wilkerson who were tragically killed by criminal aliens illegally present in the United States. Their mothers Michelle Root and Laura Wilkerson are here to share their stories under heartbreaking circumstances that no parent could be prepared for or should have to bear. Sarah Root was killed by an unlawful alien drunk driver less than three months ago. Only hours before her death she graduated from college with a 4.0 average and a degree in investigations. Tragically the Department of Homeland Security did not consider her killer an enforcement priority and did not issue a detainer for his arrest. As a result he posted a state bail bond and fled.

Joshua Wilkerson was tortured and murdered in 2010 by an alien who had overstayed his visa for eight years. The killer was arrested on a harassment charge only months before, but ICE did not seek to take custody. The district attorney who prosecuted the murder case couldn’t explain why ICE did not have an interest in him, despite the fact that ICE regularly reviewed the county jail roster,

Though these two young victims had unique life stories, their tragic deaths are linked by a common thread: they are two of the many innocent victims of the irresponsible policies of the Obama administration that promote the presence of dangerous criminal aliens in American communities. The American public has been misled by the enforcement priorities — deferred action and executive action — policies of this administration which categorize only certain quote unquote serious criminal aliens as worthy of immigration enforcement. However this administration’s actions demonstrate that it finds it acceptable to permit even serious criminal aliens to prey on our communities. The fact remains that illegal immigration has consequences. It is not a victimless crime, and for the families and friends of victims killed, maimed or otherwise hurt by aliens especially those who are illegally present, the consequences can be devastating. Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears

Funny how after all these years of Americans being run down by drunk driving illegal aliens, the crime of inebriated vehicle operation by unlawful foreigners is still not taken seriously by authorities. One recent example was of the preventable death of 21-year-old Sarah Root of Omaha Nebraska. Had illegal alien DREAMer type Edwin Mejia not been given refugee status by the open-borders administration and sent home, he wouldn’t have been around to kill an innocent young American. Worse, the government doubled its guilt by releasing the alien killer from jail instead of holding him for trial.

Below, illegal alien Edwin Mejia (left) killed Sarah Root, yet was allowed to post bond from jail and disappear.

DrunkDrivingEswinMejiaKilledSarahRoot

A Monday report on Fox News provided a quick summary of a very disturbing case:

ABBY HUNTSMAN: We’re looking at this story of an illegal immigrant on the run, accused of killing a young woman in a drunken street-racing accident. Edwin Mejia was arrested and posted bail — you can see him here in Nebraska — but immigration officials never detained him — why? Well they say his crimes didn’t meet ICE’s quote “enforcement priorities.” William La Jeunesse is live for us from our West Coast newsroom. William, walk us through what happened here and why they let this guy go.

WILLIAM LA JEUNESSE: The big question is why would the administration let this illegal immigrant out of jail just days after killing a woman, despite a plea from cops and a previous warrant. So 21-year-old Sarah Root had just graduated from college when police say Edwin Mejia plowed into her car drunk without a license. Omaha police put him in jail, asked ICE to detain him while prosecutors prepared their homicide case. ICE refused, saying Mejia’s arrest did not meet their enforcement priorities as outlined by the president and Homeland Security Director Jeh Johnson.

Outraged Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse tried but failed to get a straight answer from ICE Director Sara Saldana:

SASSE: If an illegal alien kills an American citizen, should ICE let that person go free?

SALDANA: There will be criminal consequences.

SASSE: We don’t know where the man is.

LA JEUNESSE: So Saldana said they couldn’t hold Mejia because Root wasn’t dead; that wasn’t true. She also claimed that ICE didn’t have time to hold him. Well police called four times starting at 7:30 in the morning for ICE to issue that detainer, they were refused. Twelve hours later they let him go.

HUNTSMAN: That begs the question: if this guy wasn’t an enforcement priority, then who is?

LA JEUNESSE: DHS policy says they will only hold the suspect if he has a prior felony conviction, saying last week quote “Based on the totality of circumstances involved when arrested, ICE decided not to issue a detainer at the time. Now, however, he’s ON ICE’s Ten Most Wanted list. That’s little consolation to Sarah’s father.

SCOTT ROOT: I don’t know what else I can say, they can’t bring her back. Somebody’s gotta be held accountable, you know, apparently he isn’t.

LA JEUNESSE: Mejia, who came to the border in 2013 as a minor was allowed to stay as a refugee; jumped bail. Police believe he is now back in Honduras.

In a related item about the drastically reduced public safety in this country caused by Obama administration policies, the video below notes that the Migration Policy Institute has found that 820,000 illegal immigrants in the US have been convicted of crime. Manhattan Institute scholar Heather MacDonald remarked about the Root killing, “The ultimate agenda is to delegitimize deportation entirely as a response to illegal immigration. We cannot even deport illegal alien criminals. And once we lose deportation as a response to illegal entry, we have basically ceded the borders completely.”

This story provides details about Senator Sasse’s attempt to get some response out of the useless Sarah Saldana:

Vehicular homicide not enough to detain illegal immigrants: DHS, By Stephen Dinan, Washington Times, April 4, 2016

Even being convicted of homicide isn’t enough to ensure illegal immigrants are detained by federal agents, the government’s top deportation official said in a letter to Congress released Monday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana said neither Obama administration policy nor federal law required her agency to detain Edwin Mejia, who arrived in the U.S. illegally as part of the surge of unaccompanied children from Central America, after he was charged with vehicular homicide in Nebraska. Mother of Illegal Alien Crime Victim Remembers Her Son’s Life

It’s tough sledding to be related to somebody killed by an illegal alien thug. The personal loss is bad enough, but the response from the government and liberal media is slim to none.

Illegal alien enthusiasts in the government used to pretend that steps would be taken to weed out the dangerous ones, but that was always a lie. Now they don’t even bother to pretend, like when the Senate Democrats blocked a bill punishing sanctuary cities a couple weeks ago.

Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was struck and killed in a head-on collision by drunk-driving illegal alien who had prior arrests for burglary and assaulting a police officer but was not deported.

In ultra-liberal San Francisco, the poster city of illegal alien crime after the July murder of Kate Steinle, the Board of Supervisors faked concern about the issue by debating non-binding resolutions about the policy the same day the Senate anti-sanctuary bill was blocked.

Interestingly, San Francisco’s Tuesday election for sheriff has been reported to hinge partially on the sanctuary issue. Incumbent Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi released Kate Steinle’s accused killer even though federal immigration officials requested the man be detained for deportation. Interestingly, a recent UC Berkeley government studies poll found a majority of Californians opposed sanctuary policies, including 73 percent of Democrats. So it’s possible Mirkarimi might get a bad surprise on Tuesday.

Brandon Mendoza’s mother Mary Ann Mendoza appeared on Fox News on Sunday to discuss the occasion of the remembrance day to recall the victims of illegal alien criminals.

TUCKER CARLSON: A critical issue in the 2016 presidential race is how the candidates will deal with illegal aliens entering this country, some of them committing deadly crimes. For hundreds of families the issue is more than political, it’s personal and decidedly tragic. Those families have declared today a national remembrance day; they’re going to hold vigils across the country in the memories of their loved ones killed by people who shouldn’t have been here in the first place.

Our next guest will be among those. Last year Mary Mendoza’s son police sergeant Brandon Mendoza of Mesa, Arizona, died after a drunk man in this country illegal for almost two decades crashed head-on into him. The man was wanted for a variety of crimes. Mrs. Mendoza joins us now to tell us how she is honoring the life of her son. Mrs. Mendoza, thanks for joining us this morning. Can you tell us how you’re honoring the life of your son Brandon?

MARY MENDOZA: Well today is National Remembrance Day, and we’re going to have a ceremony down at the Capitol in Phoenix at 5 p.m. this evening where we will gather and remember all the Arizona victims. And since Brandon’s death I’ve been trying to honor him as best I can, to carry on his his legacy and what he was doing in the neighborhood that he patrolled. We’re having the annual Mendoza Thanksgiving dinner to Boys and Girls Club that he started of several years ago. I’m trying to get scholarship funds out there because it was so important for him to have children get education and have goals in life. Continue reading this article

Arizona Sheriff Condemns Feds for Irresponsible Release of Dangerous Aliens into American Communities

On Tuesday, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu held a press event to draw attention to the continuing release of violent illegal aliens onto American streets. He chose three diverse characters as examples to demonstrate how little our government cares about the citizens’ safety.

Below, a Sudanese, a Russian and an Iraqi walk out of a prison — that would be (l-r) Musa Salah Abdelaziz Abdalla, Dennis Valerievitch Tsoukanov and Nasser Hanna Hermez. All have lengthy criminal histories but were released by ICE anyway.

Arizona3criminalsReleasedHermezAbdalla

Terrible crimes are occurring because of liberal weakness toward illegal alien criminals. On July 1, Kate Steinle was shot to death in San Francisco by a five-times-deported Mexican drug dealer who had not been repatriated. Marilyn Pharis, an Air Force veteran, was attacked in her Santa Maria CA apartment on Jul 24 by two men, one of which was an illegal who had been released rather than deported.

Yesterday I reported on illegal alien Francisco Chavez who beat a two-year-old girl nearly to death, who nevertheless was released by San Luis Obispo authorities on bond and unsurprisingly didn’t show up for his court date.

Americans pay billions of dollars in taxes to support a system of police, border security, courts and prisons. It’s therefore reasonable for us to expect a first-world level of public safety, but we’re not getting it. Why are illegal alien criminals treated with such deference?

Sheriff Babeu had two crime victim relatives with him to speak, the mother of Brandon Mendoza and the father of Grant Ronnebeck.

Here’s a local news report from Fox 10 in Phoenix:

Arizona sheriff blasts Feds for releasing violent immigrants into communities, Fox News, August 18, 2015

An Arizona lawman blasted the federal government Tuesday over an Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy he said sprang criminal immigrants on the law-abiding public.

With the loved ones of crime victims at his side, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu spotlighted three criminals, including a Russian national who set a police informant on fire, an Iraqi who killed his two-year-old daughter and an illegal immigrant from Sudan who has committed multiple assaults in two states. Babeu said ICE set all three and hundreds like them free in communities such as his, and that even its new “Law Enforcement Notification System,” designed to let local authorities know of pending releases, is too little, too late.

“You don’t have to be a sheriff to realize that this is going to end very badly for people,” Babeu said. “You don’t release murderers into the state of Arizona and somehow think that they are just going to go about their business and try to find a job.”

Babeu said immigrant criminals should be deported after completing prison sentences, especially when they have shown a propensity for violence. The three criminals, who Babeu pointedly noted were not from Mexico, were all released in Arizona in the last week. Continue reading this article

Illegal Alien Child Beater Fails to Appear in Court

FranciscoChavezChildAbuserA violent illegal alien who was released from jail for a charge of bone-breaking assault did not show up for his court date. Whatever did authorities have in mind when they allowed bail for a man who was definitely a flight risk?

That’s a rhetorical question in California, where the most dangerous foreigners like to reside because no other state is so criminal friendly.

The alien in question is Francisco Chavez (pictured), who was arrested a couple weeks ago for beating a toddler nearly to death, yet he was allowed bail. He has a local record too, so San Luis Obispo authorities cannot claim ignorance about him:

Mexican national accused of abusing toddler is freed despite request from immigration officials, San Luis Obispo, August 4, 2015

. . . Chavez similarly has a criminal history in San Luis Obispo dating back to 2006, when he was convicted of felony assault and served about 180 days in County Jail. Court records show he had been arrested at least four other times on suspicion of various offenses, including a 2011 felony conviction for possessing a controlled substance for sale.

According to ICE, Chavez was previously deported in February 2014 following a San Luis Obispo County conviction for drunken driving.

Apparently the Mexican could have been kept in jail if he had been charged with a worse crime. Does this screw-up reveal Chicago-level corruption or California stupidity? Chavez is likely back in Mexico now.

It’s not like the citizens have a right to expect some semblance of public safety for all the taxes we pay.
