House Immigration Enforcement Bills Shine an Overdue Light on Illegal Alien Criminals

It was good to see crime victims of illegal aliens get a kind of validation on Thursday when the House of Representatives debated and passed Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act.

A number of the crime victim families were in Washington for the occasion of the vote, as well as meeting with President Trump. On Tuesday, several inaugurated a new activist group, the Advocates for Victims of Illegal Alien Crime (AVIAC)

One of those present was Mary Ann Mendoza, who lost her son, Mesa Arizona Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza (pictured below) when he was killed in a head-on collision by an illegal alien driving the wrong way on a freeway. The killer, Raul Silva-Corona, had a blood-alcohol level of .24 percent and had not been deported after earlier crimes of burglary and assault. Mary Ann Mendoza’s anger at the preventable death prompted her to write a letter to President Obama in 2014.

Tucker Carlson, a long-time friend of immigration enforcement particularly against violent criminals, invited Mendoza for a discussion on Thursday about the government’s history of passivity toward illegal alien criminals who have been killing and otherwise harming American citizens for years.

TUCKER CARLSON: The House of Representatives today voted to pass Kate’s Law, a bill that if enacted would stiffen penalties for deported illegal aliens who reenter the United States as so many do. The house also passed a bill that would cut off federal grants to sanctuary cities. Mary Ann Mendoza is the mother of Sergeant Brandon Mendoza who was a police officer killed by a previously deported illegal alien: she joins us tonight. Mary Ann, thanks for coming on. Does this bill do what you want it to do?

MARY ANN MENDOZA: It’s a beginning, and absolutely more more light needs to be shed on this problem in our country, and I think more Americans need to be educated of what’s really happening behind the scenes: politicians lie, mainstream media does not give the correct statistics of what’s happening to American citizens in our country. America’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions Implements Tough Enforcement against Repeat Alien Criminals

Illegal alien crimes followed by repeated deportations and re-entries are infuriating to knowledgeable Americans who care about sovereignty and public safety. A recent case of that sort occurred last month near San Diego, where a 15-times-deported Mexican drove drunk into an American family’s car and critically injured a little boy.

DUI suspect in hit-run crash that left boy, 6, badly hurt was deported 15 times, San Diego Union-Tribune, May 9, 2017

A drunken driving suspect in a hit-and-run crash that severely injured a 6-year-old boy in San Ysidro over the weekend had been deported from the U.S. at least 15 times, authorities said Tuesday.

Constantino Banda-Acosta, 38, was last deported Jan. 18, with at least 14 prior cases since 2002, federal authorities said. . . .

Below, six-year-old Lennox Lake was seriously injured when a drunk illegal alien Mexican smashed his truck into the Lake car.

A May 29 news article reported that Lennox is still hospitalized from the May 6 crash.

This preventable illegal alien crime was the background for a recent report about the implementation of tough enforcement against criminal aliens by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the inclusion of Kate’s Law into a bill now being constructed in the Congress:

WILLIAM LA JEUNESSE: This guy’s record reflects policy in the last decade. It wasn’t a mistake and it explains why the new Attorney General supports Kate’s Law to impose a mandatory five-year minimum for illegal immigrants who are caught re-entering the US after being deported. So here is Constantino Banda-Acosta after a night of heavy drinking and nearly killing a family near San Diego.

So why wasn’t he in jail? Well remember with the Obama policy of prosecutorial discretion? That directed US Attorneys to only file charges against most serious criminal aliens that allowed many to stay in the US but also gave Mexicans who were deported a free pass to go home without a criminal record, and that’s what happened here. Numerous times Acosta was caught entering illegally using fake documents or sneaking over the border, and the US Attorney gave him a free pass; even after arrest for DUI domestic violence, prosecutors using their discretion refused to prosecute. That is why the new administration bill opposes sanctuary-lite policies that allow misdemeanor criminal aliens to stay in the US indefinitely.

BILL HEMMER: So what does Senator Grassley want and how would Kate’s Law prevent similar incidents, if at all, William?

LA JEUNESSE: After entering illegally the second time, Banda-Acosta would have gone to jail for five years mandatory minimum, and this six-year-old that you see here would not have been found almost dead on the highway. It explains Sessions’ new orders for prosecutors to charge and pursue the most serious offenses.

ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS: People who re-enter having been convicted of a crime, they get deported and they come right back. So you can’t just deport them again: they have to be punished, and that sends a message more and more that you shouldn’t come back. And if we build a wall and deport them, they’re not coming back.

LA JEUNESSE: So Democrats blocked Kate’s Law in 2015 and 16 but the same language of Kate’s Law is now resurfacing the border security bill the GOP hopes to pass this year.

Here’s some background on the illegal alien enforcement legislation now in the Congress:

Republicans look to fulfill Trump’s vow on ‘Kate’s Law’, The Hill, May 31, 2017

Republicans are going on the offensive with “Kate’s Law,” seeking to fulfill one of President Trump’s most high-profile promises while putting Democrats on defense over illegal immigration.

During the presidential campaign, Trump highlighted the murder of 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle, who was shot by a Mexican immigrant who had unlawfully re-entered the country after being convicted of a separate crime and deported.

Now, Republicans are working on legislation to impose a mandatory five-year minimum prison sentence for immigrants who have twice been charged with illegally re-entering the country or have prior aggravated felony convictions.

Language for Kate’s Law is tucked into a border security bill that Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) are working on, according to a draft copy reviewed by The Hill.

The bill, which Senate Democrats successfully blocked in 2015 and 2016, is a priority for Trump.

A May 2 tweet from Rabbi Shmuley Boteach shows him and White House strategist Stephen Bannon standing in front of a whiteboard with Bannon’s to-do list. The words “pass ‘Kate’s law’” are visible under the header “Pledges on Immigration.” Continue reading this article

Liberal Judges Releasing Illegal Alien Criminals: A Pattern Is Noted

Liberals say that they are the friends of women’s rights and safety. But when those issues face off against the dubious rights of illegal aliens, women often end up being the losers. In a vexing case from Boston a couple weeks back, a Democrat judge released illegal alien Uber driver Luis Baez who was accused of rape on a very low bond of $2500 so he wouldn’t be deported.

Apparently the likelihood of his escape, not to mention re-offending didn’t count for much in the mind of the judge. Protecting Americans from dangerous people is supposed to be the #1 job of government, but liberal judges have a different idea.

Massachusetts author and radio host Howie Carr discussed this case and others with Tucker Carlson on Thursday. Carr noted the “pattern” of liberal judges not following the law in order to protect illegal aliens, and he had plenty of examples to prove his point.

Do liberal citizens not care about secure streets and public safety?

TUCKER CARLSON: An immigrant accused of rape is on the run after a judge in Boston ignored federal requests to keep him detained. A Fox station in Boston reported on the story, here’s part of it:

BROADCAST: A dangerous drive home for a local woman after investigators say she was assaulted by her Uber driver who used a fake name to register with the rideshare company. Thirty-four-year-old Luis Báez pled not guilty to three counts of rape. Prosecutors say the young woman was picked up using the app in Boston last September and driven to a location she didn’t request. Baez allegedly raped her and then dropped her off at Boston College where she reported the incident to campus police.

CARLSON: But it didn’t end there. Newton district court judge Mary Beth Heffernan refused a request from prosecutors to set high bail for Baez: she released him after acquiring just 2500 bucks. Now ICE agents are hunting for him; they say he disappeared.

Howie Carr writes for the Boston Herald, hosts a daily radio show — one of the most famous men in New England. He’s also the author of the book Kennedy Babylon. He joins us tonight. Howie, thanks a lot for coming on. This story almost sounds like something that you’d make up — it sounds like a parody. How did this happen? is it what it seems?

HOWIE CARR: Yeah, I think this is a pattern that’s repeating itself all over the country, Tucker. In this case, the guy is an illegal alien once deported to Dominica, purportedly a gangbanger in the city of Boston, and he’s operating under an alias, as you just heard. And so they bring him in and the prosecutor, an assistant district attorney from a very liberal county, works for a very liberal Democrat district attorney comes in there and says we want a hundred thousand dollars bail on this guy because he’s a flight risk, and ICE has asked us for a hold and make sure that he’s held because they’re going to put a detainer on him to make sure that he can’t escape. but we want a GPS via the judge — a political appointee of former governor Deval Patrick another very liberal democratic politician — doesn’t even listen to the entire argument by the the employee of a liberal a district attorney and so he just says $2500 bond and then says can he make the bond here at the courthouse so he doesn’t have to go back to jail. She didn’t want to inconvenience him in the least, so he makes the bond and that was nine days ago and nobody has seen him since.

CARLSON: What it really comes down to, when the left is put in this case a liberal judge to balance the rights of women — which they say they stand for — with the so-called rights of illegal aliens, the latter wins: 2500 bucks for bail on a rape charge — have you heard of that before?

CARR: No, it’s happening around the country, Tucker. There was a case in New York City last week, a Dominican woman was charged with, pleaded guilty to stealing $35,000 worth of Victoria’s Secret products, and the judge tried to block photographers from taking her picture out in the hall of the courthouse. He said you’re just going to get her deported; he tried to stop them.

You had a case in Portland, Oregon, in January where a Mexican illegal alien was in court for a hearing for a drunk driving case, the ICE agents were out in the hall waiting for him to come out so they could grab and put a detainer on him and throw him out of the country. Somebody let him out of the back door of the of the courtroom.

We had another case in the Springfield, Western Mass, here last year, a Dominican bodega owner was pleading guilty to stealing $35,000 worth of food stamps — welfare fraud — and he came into the court and the judge said in an open courtroom, you know if you were an American we would be sentencing you to some serious jail time, but we don’t want to get you deported, so we’re not going to give you any jail time, and the guy got probation stealing $35,000.

The woman in Manhattan she didn’t do any jail time, she didn’t do restitution, she didn’t do any community service. I mean it’s like there’s a double standard here. In many cases illegal aliens or non-citizens are treated better than Americans. Continue reading this article

America’s Attorney General Speaks Out about Increased Enforcement against MS-13 Gang

On Friday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited Central Islip on Long Island, New York, an area suffering from worsened gang crime, particularly the ultra-violent MS-13 gang from Central America. That gang got extra attention for itself following a horrific quadruple murder on Long Island earlier this month.

Even so, enforcement of America’s immigration law is unpopular in certain quarters, and unfriendly open-borders advocates turned up as greeters, because even murderous illegal alien criminals are apparently desirable in the minds of some:

About 100 protest Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ visit, Newsday, April 28, 2017

About 100 people gathered outside the Central Islip federal courthouse Friday morning to demonstrate against the attorney general’s visit, sending the message that “immigrants are welcome here.”

The demonstrators gathered about two hours before Attorney General Jeff Sessions addressed law enforcement officials during a stop in the same community where the bodies of four young men were found in a park just over two weeks ago — the latest violent incident in Central Islip and Brentwood to be investigated as a possible gang-related killing. . .

Tucker Carlson interviewed one of the protesters on his show, if you care to Watch.

Below, not every person with a sign was hostile to the attorney general.

Finally, keep in mind that Obama’s policy of delivering many thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America all around the country helped to distribute the MS-13 gang more widely around the nation.

Here’s AG Sessions’ speech, via video and text:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Delivers Remarks on Violent Crime to Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement, US Department of Justice, April 28, 2017

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Good morning. I am honored to be here today with all of you – the brave men and women of law enforcement. Your dedication, your commitment to justice and your patriotism are inspiring. Thank you for all you do to keep us safe.

I also want to thank Congressman Pete King for inviting me to visit his district. He has been a steadfast partner and leader in combating violent crime. Finally, let me thank our Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget Rohde of the Eastern District of New York. Bridget, thank you not only for your hospitality, but also for your leadership.

Today is the 99th day of President Trump’s administration. The President made a promise to make America safe again, and that is exactly what we are doing at the Department of Justice. The President has talked to me several times about this and his commitment to these issues is complete. He is very aware personally of the violence and murders here.

We’re seeing an increase in violent crime our cities – in Baltimore, Chicago, Memphis, Milwaukee, St. Louis and many others. But gang violence has also been in the headlines right here in the suburbs of Long Island, while the murder rate has surged 10 percent nationwide – the largest increase since 1968. Groups of murderers, rapists, traffickers and thugs are carrying out a frontal assault on the decent, law-abiding men and women of this community and others like it across our country.

This is not acceptable, and the American people will not tolerate it.

Are these gang and cartel members violent and formidable foes? They sure are. But they are also mortal, and that means they can be arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned for their crimes. And that’s what we are going to do.

MS-13’s motto is “kill, rape and control.” Let me tell you our motto: justice for victims and consequences for criminals. It is that simple. We will prosecute gang members who commit crimes, to the full extent of the law.

This community is no stranger to violence. You know the story: last September, two teenage girls here were beaten to death using baseball bats and a machete. Earlier this month, police in Central Islip found the bodies of four young men, ranging in age from 16 to 20. They had been murdered and their bodies were dumped in a park. One of these young men was an honor student.

I have a message for any gang that targets our young people: we are targeting you, and we are coming after you.

Transnational criminal organizations represent one of the gravest threats to American public safety today. These groups enrich themselves by pedaling poison in our communities, trafficking children for sexual exploitation and inflicting horrific violence in the neighborhoods where they operate and slipping their ill-gotten wealth back to their home countries.

For example, there are over 30,000 MS-13 members abroad, with their headquarters in the El Salvadoran prison system. According to the National Gang Intelligence Center, MS-13 now has more than 10,000 members in at least 40 states in this country – up significantly from just a few years ago. Liberal Paper Is Shocked with Idea that Immigration Should Not Endanger Americans

The Los Angeles Times is astounded that President Trump wants immigration to be a legal process, and admitting foreigners should not endanger the safety of Americans.

In short, immigration should not be a suicide pact, but the Times finds that notion to be radical. The Times rejects out of hand the many arguments to restrict immigration both by numbers and culture. Many Americans have noticed the various negative symptoms arising from excess: too many immigrants lower American wages, some diversity (Muslim!) is dangerous, surplus population draws down water supply, worse traffic happens, creeping bi-lingualism pops up, schools are flooded with non-English speakers, criminal gangs infiltrate, free speech is crushed because “sensitivity” etc. ad nauseum.

Below, Parisian victims of the Islamic slaughter in November 2015 in which 130 were murdered by a group of Muslims, some of whom entered as refugees.

We get regular sermons from the elite media about the joy of diversity because humans normally prefer to around those who share the same values, language and culture. The article under consideration must be considered to be a rather scolding sermon.

The Times’ Tuesday front page revealed their shockeroo discovery: the Trump administration regards immigration enforcement seriously.

Actually, the Times gets spun up in its diversity ideology with the typical liberal lie of conflating legal and illegal immigration: in fact, there’s no indication from President Trump that he intends to round up millions of legal immigrants, which would unlawful. The invaders may want to avoid driving drunk and other crimes, though.

The piece also claims that no terrorists have come from the seven countries covered by the temporary travel ban, but investigation has found 72 active jihadists from those places.

The real goal of Trump’s executive orders: Reduce the number of immigrants in the U.S., Los Angeles Times, February 28, 2017

Behind President Trump’s efforts to step up deportations and block travel from seven mostly Muslim countries lies a goal that reaches far beyond any immediate terrorism threat: a desire to reshape American demographics for the long term and keep out people who Trump and senior aides believe will not assimilate.

In pursuit of that goal, Trump in his first weeks in office has launched the most dramatic effort in decades to reduce the country’s foreign-born population and set in motion what could become a generational shift in the ethnic makeup of the U.S.

Trump and top aides have become increasingly public about their underlying pursuit, pointing to Europe as an example of what they believe is a dangerous path that Western nations have taken. Trump believes European governments have foolishly allowed Muslims with extreme views to settle in their countries, sowing seeds for unrest and recruitment by terrorist groups.

“Take a look at what’s happening in Sweden. Take a look at what’s happening in Germany. Take a look at what’s happened in France. Take a look at Nice and Paris,” Trump said Friday during a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, referring to riots last week in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood in Stockholm, as well as attacks and unrest in similar neighborhoods in Germany and France over the last few years.

Trump is also expected to talk about the need for stringent security during his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night. And he is likely to issue a new travel ban this week, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Monday. Continue reading this article

Drunk-Driving Illegal Alien Mexican Kills Indiana Man, a Former Missionary

David Kriehn died early Monday morning when a drunk-driving Mexican woman smashed into his car, causing it to flip several times into a ditch. He was on his way home from work after closing up the restaurant which he managed.

Grandfather David Kriehn, 66, graduated from Northwestern University, received a Masters of Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and had worked as a missionary.

The Mexican, Elizabeth Vargas-Hernandez, is a resident of Indianapolis and has never had a license to drive.

She exactly the sort of arrogant foreigner President Trump wants out of the country so American citizens won’t die in preventable crimes. And drunk driving illegal aliens have been very deadly.

Remember that in Mexico, drunk driving has a positive value in the national culture.

David Kriehn’s killer sounds like she was blotto drunk in a car with several drunk pals. Hopefully Indiana will throw the book at her.

Noblesville man killed in I-465 crash caused by suspected drunk driver, WTHR, February 13, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – An Indianapolis woman believed to be in the country illegally is accused of driving drunk this morning and killing a Noblesville man.

The crash occurred on the city’s northwest side on Interstate 465 near Michigan Road.

The victim is a former missionary. The suspect, state police investigators believe, entered the country illegally.

The high-speed collision happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday, sending David Kriehn’s car careening off the interstate and into a ditch. Investigators say it rolled over several times, killing the 66-year-old father and grandfather.

Co-workers were shocked and tearful.

“Dave was a gentle, caring man,” Harry Straut said. “A good person. The guy you liked to hang out with as well as work with.”

As a manager at famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que, Kriehn earned a reputation as a leader who put others ahead of himself. According to the company’s operation manager, Kriehn closed the restaurant Sunday night, then worked into the early morning, completing an inventory, before heading to his home in Noblesville.

“Dave was an inspirational leader,” Straut explained. “He spend much of his life before entering the restaurant industry being a missionary.” Continue reading this article

New York Mayor Says Drunk Driving Is Not a Serious (aka Deportable) Offense

It is unconscionable for New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio to be so dangerously ignorant about drunk driving. During a discussion with CNN’s Jake Tapper about the city’s sanctuary status, the mayor asserted that drunk-driving illegal aliens are not a danger to citizens.

DE BLASIO: So, we differentiate. Anyone who is violent, anyone who is a serious threat to society, we agree we will work with the federal partners and they get deported. But we are not going to see, with a half-a-million undocumented people here — this would be true for 11 to 12 million undocumented folks in this country, the vast majority of whom are law- abiding — we are not going to see families torn apart over a very minor offense.

TAPPER: But is grand larceny or drunk driving a very minor offense?

DE BLASIO: Drunk driving that does not lead to any other negative outcome, I could define as that.

The CNN show transcript is here.

The problem is that habitual drunk drivers don’t kill anyone — until they do. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reports that the average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before the first arrest. In 2015, 10,265 people died in alcohol-impaired crashes, up by nearly 300 from the year before.

Of the Americans killed by illegal aliens, probably the largest group is the category of citizens killed by drunk-driving illegal aliens. Here are just a handful:

Below, 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed in Omaha just a day after her college graduation by one of Obama’s protected DREAMers, reported here: ”Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.”

Mesa, Arizona, Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed by a head-on collision with a previously arrested but not deported drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood alcohol level of .24 percent.

Young Alabama couple Tad Mattle and Leigh Anna Jimmerso were killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit and who had at least four previous DUIs.

Houston Officer Kevin Will died when a drunk Mexican crashed through a police barrier at 90 mph and hit Will as he was standing on the roadside investigating an accident.

Three-year-old Marten Kudlis was run down in a Colorado ice cream shop by a 16-times-arrested drunk-driving illegal alien. Two adult women were also killed when the truck smashed into the building.

Best friends Tessa Tranchant, 16, left, and Allison Kunhardt, 17, died when their car, stopped at a light, was hit by a blotto-drunk illegal alien, who had three previous alcohol-related convictions but was not deported.

There are many more stories of preventable drunk-driving deaths caused by illegal aliens, but I’ll stop.

Massachusetts Sanctuary Mayors Are Called Out for Violating Federal Law

A couple of Bay State mayors have been waving their diversity flag and doubling down in support of sanctuary, like Boston’s Mayor Martin Walsh who promises a safe space for foreign invaders in his city’s city hall:

Sanctuary Suites: Defiant mayor vows to harbor illegals at Boston City Hall, Boston Herald, January 26, 2017

“If people want to live here, they’ll live here,” Walsh said yesterday. “They can use my office. They can use any office in this building. Any place they want to use. They’ll be able to use this building as a safe space.”

Why do liberal mayors think immigration to America is a right? Should the billions of poor people on the planet be permitted to move here just because they want to?

The mayors say they want to keep their communities safe, but crime victims of illegal aliens see it differently because sanctuary cities are less safe for American citizens.

Milford, Massachusetts, resident Maureen Maloney objected to the arrogant mayors because she lost her son Matthew Denice when a drunk-driving illegal alien dragged him to death. The Ecuadoran alien, Nikolas Guaman, had a long rap sheet but was protected by Massachusetts’ sanctuary policy, allowing him to remain and eventually kill 23-year-old Matthew.

Below, in 2014 Maureen Maloney gave a victim’s statement at the sentencing of Guaman for manslaughter.

In the current matter of sanctuary, Maloney said her family’s loss will never go away.

Grieving mom calls out pols grandstanding on sanctuary issue, Boston Herald, January 27, 2017

Any grandstanding mayor who actually harbors illegal immigrants should be prosecuted by the feds, said the grieving mother of a Milford man killed by a motorist who faces deportation after his jail sentence is up. . .

“The ripple effect of losing Matthew is not just the pain and suffering of me and his immediate family,” she stressed. “He had a longtime girlfriend. They were planning on getting married. He had a huge circle of friends and extended relatives. The ripple effect just goes on and on and on.

“I hear them saying that we’re separating these (illegal immigrant) families. Well, my family has been permanently separated. And I can’t call heaven and I can’t visit heaven. I have to go visit a grave,” she said. “The illegals do have other options. My son has no options. He had a very promising life, and it’s gone. There’s no other way to put it.”

She recently spoke on a Boston radio show:

Sheriff Thomas Hodgson of Bristol County Massachusetts won’t accept the liberal do-gooder blather about protecting illegal aliens. He was interviewed on Fox News on Sunday and discussed the illegal aspect of sanctuary policy.

ED HENRY: You might call it a Sanctuary City Showdown. Some mayors are speaking out after president Trump’s executive move to strip funding for sanctuary cities.

BOSTON MAYOR MARTIN WALSH: You are safe in Boston. We will do everything lawful in our power to protect you.

SOMERVILLE MASS. MAYOR JOSEPH CURTATONE: Somerville will stand with you regardless of your race, creed, color, gender. . . We know what makes America great. Continue reading this article

America’s Senator Jeff Sessions Discusses Immigration Enforcement of Violent Illegal Aliens during His Attorney General Hearing

Crime victims of illegal aliens were a topic in the Tuesday hearing for Jeff Sessions’ appointment to be Attorney General in the Trump Administration. Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse brought up the case of Omaha constituent Sarah Root who was killed by an illegal alien just a day after she graduated from college. If that wasn’t bad enough, some local authorities allowed the drunk-driving Honduran Edwin Mejia to post bond and escape. The bond was just $50,000, meaning Mejia needed only 10 percent of that, $5000, to get out of jail and leave the country.

Below, illegal alien Edwin Mejia (left) killed Sarah Root, yet he could post bond even though he was clearly a flight risk.

The systemic lawlessness of the Obama regime has been a plague upon the land and the cause of many preventable deaths caused by illegal aliens. As Senator Jeff Sessions remarked in a hearing about crime victims of illegal aliens, “This administration has consistently and steadfastly placed the goal of amnesty above the goal of public safety.”

Crime victims of illegal aliens are important people to President-elect Trump also, who discussed them (including Sarah) in his acceptance speech and gave three parents a forum to speak at the GOP convention about the loss of their children.

Below, GOP convention attendees carried signs saying “Make America Safe Again!”

In Tuesday’s hearing, details of the conversation between Senators Sasse and Sessions illustrate what an unworkable mess immigration enforcement has become after eight years of its dismantling by Obama.

SENATOR BEN SASSE: Senator Sessions, I’d like to talk a little bit about the Sarah Root case: I know that you and I have discussed it briefly last summer. Sarah Root was woman who was killed a year ago this month in Omaha; she’d just graduated from college and she was killed by a drunken street racer. Omaha authorities believe that this guy had been engaged in similar activity many times in the past. He was an illegal immigrant, he ran into her car, killed her right after her graduation, he was detained by Omaha police, they ultimately notified the department of Homeland Security.

This guy is a flight risk — he was able to post a fairly insignificant bond and he disappeared. The Department of Homeland Security did nothing to detain the guy despite the fact that the Douglas County Sheriff and the Omaha Police Department asked that he be detained. The Obama administration determined that it wasn’t an enforcement priority. Continue reading this article

Parents Miss Daughter Killed by Illegal Alien, Especially at Christmas

The holidays are tough for families when there is an empty spot at the table, particularly so when that person was killed in a preventable crime by an illegal alien. The Washington Times reminded its readers of the costs of open borders on its Friday front page:

sarahrootfamilyfacesadchristmas-wtfpdec23

Below, 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed in Omaha just a day after her college graduation by one of Obama’s protected DREAMers, reported here: ”Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.”.

Candidate Donald Trump made a point of remembering crime victims of illegal aliens during his campaign, sometimes inviting parents onstage with him to speak. He remarked at the GOP convention in his acceptance speech, “Of all my travels in this country, nothing has affected me more deeply than the time I have spent with the mothers and fathers who have lost their children to violence spilling across our border.”

So crime victim families will soon have a friend in the White House, unlike now. The Roots work to keep Sarah’s killer in the news in hopes of his eventual apprehension, and they are confident the Trump administration will initiate policies that will help prevent other illegal aliens from murdering innocent Americans.

Iowa family set for ‘empty’ Christmas despite Trump’s help, Washington Times, December 22, 2016

Daughter killed by illegal alien in tragedy without justice

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — There was a time when Scott Root and Michelle Wilson-Root looked forward to Christmas, but not this year.

Their 21-year-old daughter, Sarah Root, was killed Jan. 31 by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras accused of plowing into the back of her vehicle as he street-raced while drunk in Omaha, Nebraska. He skipped bail. Nearly a year later, he remains a fugitive.

For the Roots, this is the first Christmas without her, their first since the tragedy put them on a path with President-elect Donald Trump, who brought national attention to the case as part of his call during the election campaign for a crackdown on illegal immigration.

The Roots and their 25-year-old son, Scott Jr., met with and campaigned for Mr. Trump in Iowa. His Nov. 8 victory was their victory, too. That doesn’t make Christmas any easier.

“It’s going to suck,” said Mr. Root, his blank face a contrast to the cheerful green and red decorations at the local Starbucks. “Just like Thanksgiving sucked. Empty.”

It’s not hard to see why Sarah Root’s death resonated with Mr. Trump. The day before she was killed, Sarah graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University, where she carried a 4.0 GPA while working full time at Walgreens.

The 19-year-old driver, also known as Edwin Mejia, had a blood alcohol content of 0.241, three times the legal limit, when his truck rear-ended her Oldsmobile Bravada SUV. Despite Mejia’s history of missing court dates, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused to put a hold on him.

Charged with vehicular homicide, Mejia posted the required $5,000 of the $50,000 bond set by a Nebraska judge and fled. He has been added to ICE’s most-wanted list, although there is no word on his whereabouts.

The case soon came to symbolize a perfect storm of judicial and bureaucratic indifference. Even ICE Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale acknowledged in a letter to Iowa and Nebraska Senate Republicans that “Edwin Mejia should be in custody.”

“The killer of our child is gone,” said Mr. Root. “The judge has no accountability. The federal government, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said he wasn’t an enforcement priority. Now he’s on the top 10 of the ICE list, so he is a priority, but there’s no federal money to catch him. Zero.”

From a political standpoint, the Roots were in the right place at the right time — Iowa, in the middle of a Republican presidential primary.

They connected with Mr. Trump in February and threw their support behind him as he bashed the Obama administration for allowing Mejia to slip through the cracks, first after he entered country as an unaccompanied minor in 2013 and then for refusing to detain him.

“I’ve met Sarah’s beautiful family. But to this administration, their amazing daughter was just one more American life that wasn’t worth protecting,” Mr. Trump said in his July 21 acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. “One more child to sacrifice on the altar of open borders.” Continue reading this article

Trump’s GOP Convention Hears Testimony from Crime Victims of Illegal Aliens

Sabine Durden appeared on Fox News the following day to talk more about her son and how government lawlessness endangers all Americans.

SABINE DURDEN: Dominic was 30 years old and he was an incredible spirit, incredible man, the kind of man you would want for a son-in-law. He was on his way to work on his motorcycle to the 911 dispatch center and as he drove down the street, about two miles from the house, an illegal alien without a license without registration, without insurance, drove up the street and turned in front of him and hit him so hard that he threw him into a wall right there on the sidewalk. Victims of Illegal Alien Crime Support Donald Trump for President

One of the more notable aspects of Donald Trump’s campaign is the attention he has paid to the victims of illegal alien crime. He has met with family members who lost someone to illegal alien crime and has invited some of them be opening speakers to tell their stories at his rallies.

Job #1 for government is supposed to be public safety. But Washington is willfully failing that task, and Trump’s attention to illegal alien crime reminds the public of how little Obama & co. care about keeping citizens safe from the world’s criminals.

Donald Trump Wins Support From Parents of Illegal Immigrants’ Victims, Wall Street Journal, June 5, 2016

GOP candidate’s effort parallels Hillary Clinton’s outreach to mothers of African-Americans killed in gun violence

Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump is giving a national platform to parents of victims of crimes by illegal immigrants, inviting them to rallies and telling their tragic stories to boost support for hard-line immigration policies.

The families help put a sympathetic face on Mr. Trump’s rhetoric branding Mexican immigrants as criminals and his plans to build a wall along the southern border and to deport millions of people who are here illegally. Those parents who are black and Hispanic also offer Mr. Trump political cover from allegations of racial and ethnic prejudice, most recently for accusing a Mexican-American judge of being biased against him.

Mr. Trump also is drawing intense media attention to what they see as public-safety issues caused by illegal immigration.

Sabine Durden told thousands of people at a Trump rally in Anaheim, Calif., two weeks ago about her 30-year-old son, Dominic, a sheriff’s dispatcher who was killed in a 2012 motorcycle accident by an illegal immigrant truck driver convicted twice of driving under the influence.

Choking back tears, she recalled: “I heard Donald Trump on the television as I walked by talking about illegal immigration and about the cost of American lives and I screamed. Donald Trump became my life savior that day, my hero… Wanting to control the border has nothing to do with racism but all to do with law and order.”

Online video of Mr. Trump kissing and signing posters of her son and other crime victims after the rally has been viewed more than 230,000 times.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump said meeting the parents of children killed by illegal immigrants “reinforced even more” his support for stringent immigration laws.

“Even I didn’t realize how bad it was,” he said. “When you see these families that have been destroyed by people who aren’t supposed to be here, who are criminals…The only way people can understand how severe this crisis is to see the families, and then they see the horror of it.” Continue reading this article
