What must foreigners think when they see news that a major Presidential candidate promises free healthcare and “reparations” for illegal aliens while excusing dangerous driving habits? Certainly some persons not yet living in the US would consider relocation as a result, and they might encourage illegal cousins in America to cast unlawful votes for Candidate Biden.
The former vice president was analyzed by Tucker Carlson recently for the thoughtless remarks designed to appeal to persons whose culture may not value highway safety. It was disturbing to see Biden essentially excuse drunk driving when it has killed many thousands of Americans over the years. Drunk driving has been more accepted among certain cultural groups, like Mexicans, so diversity is definitely not a strength on that front.
TUCKER CARLSON: Now they tell you that the Democratic establishment wants Joe Biden as the nominee in the first place because he’s moderate and can win. But is Joe Biden actually moderate? He hugs people — that doesn’t mean he’s moderate, he’s just not a threat to the lifestyle of Democratic leaders.
On immigration for example, he’s not moderate by anybody’s definition. In a recent interview with Vice, Biden explained that even illegal aliens who commit drunk driving offenses ought to be allowed to stay here forever. Watch:
PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE JOE BIDEN: You only arrest for the purpose of dealing with a felony that’s committed, and I don’t count drunk driving as a felony.
CARLSON: Yeah have a few beers, like whatever. Drunk driving kills thousands of Americans every year: Democrats used to tell you a lot about that. Biden doesn’t care any more, not if illegals are doing it. And for good measure after those illegal immigrant drunk drivers cause a crash, they get free healthcare for their injuries. while their victims may not.
Do you get free health care? No, but Biden likes to give it to people here illegally.
That’s okay. After all, according to Biden, illegal aliens are more American than you are. He said it. Watch:
BIDEN: These kids that come, they’ve done well. Most of these kids — there’s a lot of them, they’re not just hispanic or Asian-Pacific islanders as well. And they in fact have done very well. In many cases, they’re more American than most Americans are because they have done well in school; they believe the basic principles that we all share.
CARLSON: “They’re more American than most Americans are,” more American than you are — shut up, you foreigner. In the same interview, Biden vowed to protect drunk drivers. He also said Americans must pay reparations to illegal aliens for what they’ve done to them. Watch:
VICE SHOW HOST: Do these numbers separated by the federal government deserve any kind of reparations or any kind of restitution for what they suffered?
BIDEN: Yes, they should be made whole; they should be made whole in terms of first and foremost getting back with their families. That’s it, I mean reparation is repairing damage. Some of you, part of the Latino community, what is, talk about things — let people know the anxiety the children you know of or parents who may have an illegal parent and an undocumented parent in the country.
It’s an enormous anxiety, and so that’s why we should be fighting them, the kind of help that is needed and the family that helped me to restore their confidence restore their sense of who they are.
CARLSON: Oops, he said it “illegal” but quickly corrected himself — “undocumented.” That’s fine, go ahead and drunk drive. By the way, we’re giving you reparations and free healthcare. Continue reading this article
It is unconscionable for New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio to be so dangerously ignorant about drunk driving. During a discussion with CNN’s Jake Tapper about the city’s sanctuary status, the mayor asserted that drunk-driving illegal aliens are not a danger to citizens.
DE BLASIO: So, we differentiate. Anyone who is violent, anyone who is a serious threat to society, we agree we will work with the federal partners and they get deported. But we are not going to see, with a half-a-million undocumented people here — this would be true for 11 to 12 million undocumented folks in this country, the vast majority of whom are law- abiding — we are not going to see families torn apart over a very minor offense.
TAPPER: But is grand larceny or drunk driving a very minor offense?
DE BLASIO: Drunk driving that does not lead to any other negative outcome, I could define as that.
Mary Ann Mendoza has been a real trooper to keep her son’s memory alive, along with reminding the public of the preventable nature of the crime that killed him. Sergeant Brandon Mendoza of the Mesa AZ Police was on his way home from work when his car was hit head-on by a drunk illegal Mexican who had driven 35 miles the wrong way on the highway. The alien had been previously arrested for burglary and assaulting a policeman in Colorado, but was not deported. Mary Ann Mendoza was so angered at having her son’s life stolen that she wrote a letter to President Obama.
Mary Ann Mendoza appeared on Fox News on Saturday morning to discus Trump’s approach to the issue. She supports his strategy of taxing remittances — something I suggested in a 2002 op-ed (Relieve crisis on border with tax on remittances, Houston Chronicle, 12/3/02). Another program she backs is a fund to assist families who have lost a loved one to illegal alien crime, because now they get nothing and the lawbreakers get all sorts of help.
Of course, the best policy for illegal aliens is to keep them out in the first place.
TUCKER CARLSON: Mary Ann Mendoza’s son, police sergeant Brendan Mendoza was killed by an illegal immigrant in 2014, and she supports Donald Trump’s stance on immigration, but will the presumptive nominee change his position once he heads into the general election? Mary Ann Mendoza joins us now to discuss. Mary Ann, it’s nice to see you this morning. So Donald Trump is under pressure from the left of course, but also from the establishment of his own party to stop talking about the border issue. They think it’s divisive; he’s been attacked as a nativist for even bringing this up. What’s your view?
MARY ANN MENDOZA: My view is that I believe that illegal immigration is at the core of a lot of the problems that the United States is facing today — overload on our health system, overload on our welfare system, the schools, and not to mention the illegal crime that happens on a daily basis. On Tuesday, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu held a press event to draw attention to the continuing release of violent illegal aliens onto American streets. He chose three diverse characters as examples to demonstrate how little our government cares about the citizens’ safety.
Below, a Sudanese, a Russian and an Iraqi walk out of a prison — that would be (l-r) Musa Salah Abdelaziz Abdalla, Dennis Valerievitch Tsoukanov and Nasser Hanna Hermez. All have lengthy criminal histories but were released by ICE anyway.
Yesterday I reported on illegal alien Francisco Chavez who beat a two-year-old girl nearly to death, who nevertheless was released by San Luis Obispo authorities on bond and unsurprisingly didn’t show up for his court date.
Americans pay billions of dollars in taxes to support a system of police, border security, courts and prisons. It’s therefore reasonable for us to expect a first-world level of public safety, but we’re not getting it. Why are illegal alien criminals treated with such deference?
Sheriff Babeu had two crime victim relatives with him to speak, the mother of Brandon Mendoza and the father of Grant Ronnebeck.
Here’s a local news report from Fox 10 in Phoenix:
An Arizona lawman blasted the federal government Tuesday over an Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy he said sprang criminal immigrants on the law-abiding public.
With the loved ones of crime victims at his side, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu spotlighted three criminals, including a Russian national who set a police informant on fire, an Iraqi who killed his two-year-old daughter and an illegal immigrant from Sudan who has committed multiple assaults in two states. Babeu said ICE set all three and hundreds like them free in communities such as his, and that even its new “Law Enforcement Notification System,” designed to let local authorities know of pending releases, is too little, too late.
“You don’t have to be a sheriff to realize that this is going to end very badly for people,” Babeu said. “You don’t release murderers into the state of Arizona and somehow think that they are just going to go about their business and try to find a job.”
Babeu said immigrant criminals should be deported after completing prison sentences, especially when they have shown a propensity for violence. The three criminals, who Babeu pointedly noted were not from Mexico, were all released in Arizona in the last week. Continue reading this article
A violent illegal alien who was released from jail for a charge of bone-breaking assault did not show up for his court date. Whatever did authorities have in mind when they allowed bail for a man who was definitely a flight risk?
That’s a rhetorical question in California, where the most dangerous foreigners like to reside because no other state is so criminal friendly.
The alien in question is Francisco Chavez (pictured), who was arrested a couple weeks ago for beating a toddler nearly to death, yet he was allowed bail. He has a local record too, so San Luis Obispo authorities cannot claim ignorance about him:
. . . Chavez similarly has a criminal history in San Luis Obispo dating back to 2006, when he was convicted of felony assault and served about 180 days in County Jail. Court records show he had been arrested at least four other times on suspicion of various offenses, including a 2011 felony conviction for possessing a controlled substance for sale.
According to ICE, Chavez was previously deported in February 2014 following a San Luis Obispo County conviction for drunken driving.
Apparently the Mexican could have been kept in jail if he had been charged with a worse crime. Does this screw-up reveal Chicago-level corruption or California stupidity? Chavez is likely back in Mexico now.
It’s not like the citizens have a right to expect some semblance of public safety for all the taxes we pay.
An illegal immigrant whom the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office recently let out of jail did not appear Thursday at his first court appearance for the alleged near-fatal beating of a 2-year-old girl.
Francisco Chavez, 27, is accused of nearly beating to death the young daughter of his live-in girlfriend. The two-year-old reportedly suffered a broken leg, two broken arms, a compressed spine, bruises and a urinary tract infection. She was in the hospital with a 107-degree fever days following the beating.
On Thursday, after Chavez failed to appear, Judge Dodie Harman ordered a warrant for his arrest with bail set at $600,000. Continue reading this article
JudicialWatch recently published a government memo directing Border Patrol agents to release unlawful foreigners driving drunk, a policy that is a serious threat to the safety of law-abiding Americans. In response, Fox News interviewed Mary Ann Mendoza, the mother of a Mesa Arizona police officer who was killed by a drunk driving illegal alien last May.
Officer Brandon Mendoza (pictured) was on his way home from work when his car was hit head-on by a blotto drunk Mexican who had driven 35 miles the wrong way on the highway. The Mexican had been previously arrested for burglary and assaulting a policeman in Colorado, but was not deported.
So Mary Ann Mendoza was angry at the preventable death of her 32-year-old son and wrote a letter to the President:
“President Obama,
“I am writing this letter to you regarding illegal immigrants.
“As a tax paying, law abiding citizen of the United States, I WANT my voice heard on this issue. My son, Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, an officer who was with the City of Mesa, Arizona police department, was killed in a tragic head on collision on May 12, 2014 by a wrong way driver on our freeways. This man happened to be an illegal immigrant, was in this country illegally, convicted of previous crimes, no Social Security number, no valid driver’s license BUT he had purchased a vehicle and registered it to drive in Maricopa County Arizona.
“I had my son’s life STOLEN from me by a man who didn’t value his life, was 3X the legal limit drunk, was high on Meth, drove for over 35 miles THE WRONG WAY on 4 different freeways and had NO BUSINESS BEING IN THIS COUNTRY!!! [. . .]
The Obama administration has ordered federal agents responsible for protecting one of the nation’s busiest and most crime-infested regions near Mexico to stop apprehending drunk drivers, according to an internal government memo that also concedes an officer that elects to detain them is “acting within the course and scope of his employment.”
Obtained by Judicial Watch this week, the notice is titled “Enforcement Options With Alcohol-Impaired Drivers” and directs the 4,000-plus U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Tucson, Arizona sector to “release” individuals under the influence and “allow them to go on their way.” The document acknowledges that this feels counter-intuitive for Border Patrol agents, but eases concerns by answering a hypothetical question for the officers who have sworn to uphold the law: “If you allow this driver to continue down the road and they kill someone, aren’t you liable?” The answer is no, according to the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo. “There is no legal requirement for a Border Patrol agent to intervene in a state crime, including DUI,” the order says, adding that “therefore there is generally no liability that will attach to the agent or agency for failing to act in this situation.” Continue reading this article
Senator Jeff Sessions has a fine publishing operation in his office, demonstrated by his occasional fact sheets of well researched points regarding the failure of Washington to stem immigration anarchy.
Now Senator Sessions has presented the mother of all lists, scary in its length, that enumerates the instances of President Obama dismantling America’s immigration enforcement system. It was posted on Breitbart on Feb 16:
Timeline: How the Obama Administration Bypassed Congress to Dismantle Immigration Enforcement
In September 2011, President Obama said, “We live in a democracy. You have to pass bills through the legislature, and then I can sign it.” Yet, since that time, and indeed before then, he has systematically voided existing laws and unilaterally created new measures that Congress has refused to adopt under either Democratic or Republican control.
Most recently, the President announced he would do what he once said only an “emperor” could do – grant unilateral amnesty, work permits, and access to government benefits to more than five million illegal immigrants. This unprecedented action, combined with new “enforcement priorities” for Department of Homeland Security personnel that exempt the vast majority of illegal immigrants from the threat of removal, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals directive, the “Morton” memos, and numerous other lesser-reported but far-reaching Executive actions, has threatened not only our constitutional system, but our national sovereignty. Indeed, the idea of national, sovereign borders is being daily eviscerated by the President’s determination to write his own immigration rules in defiance of Congress and the American people.
Below is a detailed timeline of how the Obama Administration systematically dismantled immigration enforcement, undermining the very rule of law upon which our nation was founded and upon which its greatness depends.
January 2009: Obama Administration Ends Worksite Enforcement Actions
In early 2009, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executes a raid (initiated and planned under the Bush Administration) on an engine machine shop in Bellingham, Washington, detaining 28 illegal immigrants who were using fake Social Security numbers and identity documents. Shortly thereafter, pro-amnesty groups criticized the Administration for enforcing the law. An unnamed DHS official is quoted in the Washington Times as saying, “the Secretary is not happy about it and this is not her policy.” Instead of enforcing the law, the Secretary investigates the ICE agents for simply doing their duty. Esther Olavarria, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, says on a call with employers and pro-amnesty groups that “we’re not doing raids or audits under this administration.”
January 29, 2009: Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano Delays E-Verify Deadline
Former Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano delays the original deadlines for federal contractors to use the E-Verify system, from January 15, 2009, and February 20, 2009, to May 21, 2009. Continue reading this article
The case is painfully familiar to many others in the government’s normal inattention to public safety when illegal aliens are concerned. The killer, Mexican alien Raul Corona (also killed in the crash), was clearly a dangerous man. He had been charged with assaulting a police officer and burglary in Colorado, but was not deported. When sentenced, he was given probation and allowed to stay in the country, despite his attack on an officer.
Officer Brandon Mendoza (pictured) was just 32. His mother was unwilling to let his preventable death be forgotten, so she wrote a letter to President Obama:
“The Federal Government knew he, Raul Silva Corona , was an illegal immigrant when he was convicted on crimes in 1994 in Colorado. The prosecutors were “lenient” on him and several charges were dismissed. When he was convicted of these crimes and 1994 and the government knew he was in the country illegally, why wasn’t he deported? Why are any of these illegal criminals in this country ??
“I am furious that the Federal Government allowed this criminal to stay in this country and KILL my son! I have attached several articles for you to PERSONALLY read about my son. He was an Icon with the City of Mesa Police Department. He was instrumental in making life better for people of all walks of life in the park project he took on. He was humble, selfless, worked many hours off the clock helping disadvantaged children and often used his own money to do things for the community, including “adopting” children at Christmas to provide them with gifts….out of his own money!! Following a promise from the Presidente to make deportation more “humane”, the administration has decreed that “petty” criminals can benefit from Obama’s executive amnesty.
Who hasn’t seen this coming? More “humanitarian” deportations weren’t going to include better sandwiches for Pancho during his trip home: obviously enforcement standards had to fall lower.
But it’s worse than that: there are no standards. “Petty” crime has no definition at all, so it’s whatever some bureaucrat wants it to be. Is theft no big deal? What about carjacking? Is drunk driving a petty crime?
Drunk driving is a crime many in the government have preferred to overlook, even though numerous Americans have been killed by drunk-driving illegal aliens. Arguably from a public safety perspective, drunk-driving aliens should be at the top of anyone’s Deport ASAP list. But we cannot trust the Obama administration to act with the protection of Americans in mind.
Is not every immigration bill worse than the last when the Democrats are major authors (and many Repubs are just as bad)? The problem is the Raza open-borders extremists are pulling the legislative strings and they do not act in good faith.
Are you an illegal immigrant whose waiver to stay in the country was denied because of your criminal past? Well, you’re in luck, because the Obama Administration may let you stay in the country anyway.
In a guidance distributed to congressional offices and obtained by The Daily Caller, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that it is reopening cases in which applications for provisional unlawful presence waivers were denied to criminals.
According to the notice, USCIS had determined that applicants should not be denied an I-601A waiver due to a past criminal offense so long as it “falls under the petty offense or youthful offender exceptions or is not considered a crime involving moral turpitude.”Last week, USCIS began reopening waiver applications denied due ‘solely’ to a prior criminal offense before January 24, 2014, “in order to determine whether there is reason to believe the prior criminal offense might render the applicant inadmissible.”
The notice does not specify what types of crimes constitute a “petty offense,” and defines neither “youthful offender” nor “a crime involving moral turpitude.” Neither DHS nor USCIS responded to TheDC’s requests for comment. Continue reading this article
Among the various end-of-year enumerations, one of Obama’s many falsehoods was notable: his “record deportations” turned out to be as big a whopper as ObamaCare’s “You can keep your doctor.”
Is el Presidente even deporting rapists, murderers and child abusers after prison? It doesn’t sound that way. Only a tiny handful of foreign intruders are being repatriated.
Fewer than 0.2 percent of the 11.7 million illegal aliens in the United States were deported in 2012 for violating immigration laws, according to data released by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
“It is a drop in the bucket,” Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Daily Caller. “Relative to the [agency] resources and tools they have been given to do this job, it is a record low,” said Vaughan.
Government officials say they deported a total of 368,644 people. But almost two-thirds of those people, or 235,093, were caught at the border and promptly returned to their home countries.
Only 133,551 resident illegals were picked up in the interior of the country and deported, the ICE report admitted.
But 82 percent of those residents were deported for other offenses, ICE acknowledged. Those offenses include drunk driving, assault, robbery and drug possession.
The remaining 18 percent adds up to only 20,000 illegals of the 11.7 million illegals believed to be living in the United States.
That’s only one immigration-law deportation for every 585 illegals. [. . .]
Meanwhile, liberal propaganda organs continue to pump out emotional tripe based upon the self-created problems of lawbreaking foreigners.
The Washington Post published one such item on Sunday about a family with an illegal alien dad who might get the hook. It reminded me of the dog-and-pony show I saw when Congressman Luis Gutierrez brought his magical amnesty tour to San Francisco in 2009: Treason Lobby Triumphant: Speaker Pelosi Boards Gutierrez Amnesty Express.
The opening act was a nine-year-old boy who complained of living in fear because his father might someday be caught and deported. The office janitor dad wasn’t in jail or especially in danger because of American immigration laws, but just the slight possibility of deportation was considered a cruelty worthy of sympathy by the largely hispanic audience.
The Washington Post found a similar worried little boy in order to purvey its sob story:
Below, illegal alien Jorge Penate resides in Virginia with his wife Diane and son Jason.
It’s too bad for the kid. It’s tough being 12 and knowing your father might be sent back to Guatemala — although a deportation is unlikely after all this sympathetic publicity.
Twelve-year-old Jason Penate spent the holidays hanging close by his father. They picked out a Christmas tree and decorated the front window of their Gainesville, Va., home with candy canes, and Jason tried very hard not to think about whether his father would still be here in the new year.
Jorge Penate, a Guatemalan national who came to the United States illegally in 1997, has a hearing scheduled Monday that will determine whether he can stay in the country. A drunken driving arrest two years ago launched deportation proceedings and cast his family’s future into uncertainty.
Jason wrote a letter to the immigration judge, explaining that the three days his father was detained in 2011 “were the worst days of my life” and asking not to be separated from him again. “If he does have to leave I think every day of my life is going to be the worst,” Jason wrote.
More than 1 million illegal immigrants were deported in the past three years, a record number reflecting increased enforcement efforts under the Obama administration. The crackdown has spun the lives of hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens — including children like Jason — into upheaval. Continue reading this article
Last April, Maxey Ann Lynch (pictured) was killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien as she was doing her job of Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper carrier. Her car was struck head-on by Guatemalan Santos Gabriel-Tomas driving the wrong direction, and she died later in the hospital.
Not only was his blood-alcohol content 0.19 percent (more than twice the legal limit), he also had no license to drive due to his illegal alien status.
Worse, this crime was entirely preventable because Gabriel-Tomas had been convicted in March 2012 of drunk driving, but was not deported. In a nation that cared about public safety, drunk-driving illegal aliens would be deported as a matter of law, but that is not the case here.
Now-retired Congresswoman Sue Myrick worked for years to pass the Scott Gardner Act, but with no success. As she said, the bill required, “You’re drunk, you’re driving, you’re illegal, you’re deported, period.” In 2012 Senator Chuck Grassley proposed a three-strikes requirement that would have meant deportation after three DUI arrests. However, that law would not have saved Sister Denice Mosier from a two-timer nor young Matthew Denice either.
Below, Santos Gabriel-Tomas was previously arrested but not deported.
An intoxicated, wrong-way driver who pleaded guilty to the killing in April of a Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper carrier in South Hill had been convicted of DUI a year earlier and had never been licensed to drive in Virginia.
Santos Gabriel-Tomas, 30, an immigrant from Guatemala in the country illegally, was convicted in March 2012 of driving under the influence of alcohol in neighboring Lunenburg County. He had never acquired a license to drive, but a judge in the earlier case revoked his privileges to obtain a license for 12 months as part of his punishment, Mecklenburg County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Allen Nash said.
After the suspension period passed, Gabriel-Tomas continued to drive without a license and was doing so when he crashed head-on April 7 into a car being driven by longtime Times-Dispatch carrier Maxey Ann Lynch, 61, who later died at VCU Medical Center. Continue reading this article
This story is all too common: a previously arrested (but not deported) drunk driving illegal alien takes the life of an innocent American. Had the government repatriated Osvaldo Cerda after his several marijuana arrests, he wouldn’t have been here to kill Heather VanHoozer, a 24-year-old nursing student.
Below, the VanHoozer family in happier times: parents Alan and Debra with Heather in the center. Heather was killed by a drunk driving illegal alien a year ago.
A local TV report discussed the illegal alien aspect, unlike too many news accounts when the perps are border-jumping foreigners.
Like many average citizens faced with a preventable death at the hands of a foreigner who should have been deported, the VanHoozers are shocked and surprised that their government did so little to protect their family. But in the new globalized America, foreign lawbreakers have more rights than upstanding citizens.
Every morning before work, and every evening after work, Alan and Debra VanHoozer stop at the cemetery on Garland Road.
The headstone is just a few feet away from away busy street. It is inscribed with three names: Alan, Debra and Heather.
It’s just not right that their daughter was the first to be buried.
“There’s nothing worse… nothing worse a parent can go through,” Alan VanHoozer said.
Heather VanHoozer died 11 months ago in a terrible crash on Centerville Road in Garland. She was 24 years old.
Police said Osvaldo Cerda, then 18, was drunk when he T-boned the car of Heather’s boyfriend. According to the police report, even after the crash, a witness saw Cerda put a beer can to his mouth, then toss it down and crush it before running away.
