It’s amazing how little political leaders know about the people over whom they preside. Or maybe elites just pretend to be ignoramuses so they can display their power and perhaps stir up some trouble in the process.
Clearly, armed Americans defend their own or someone else’s safety all the time. Monday’s Washington Times had a front page photo of Stephen Willeford who used his firearm to chase off a shooter from a Texas church in 2017.
Here’s Laura Ingraham chatting with an agreeable Virginia sheriff about the event and issue:
]]>LAURA INGRAHAM: Today thousands of law-abiding gun owners rallied at Virginia’s capital to oppose the gun-grabbing policies of Democrats in the state house. The media did their job, and best job, to smear those at the rally as gun toting racists. So we sent Fox’s own Griff Jenkins to Richmond to give you the real story.
CROWD: USA! USA! USA!
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: None of us out here want to cause violence at all. We all just want peace. But I would love to have the ability to protect myself, my family, and everyone else around me.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And I heard a lot about violence. There’s really no violence happening out here.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They want to have universal background checks, which we know is a first step toward gun registration, which we don’t need. Target criminals and violations of law-abiding criminals whether it’s weapons or other things, don’t target the law-abiding citizens.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It all starts with the Second Amendment. Once they take that from you than it’s one right after another.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The rest of Virginia if you look at the Second Amendment sanctuary city movement and counties, we don’t want gun control. We’re not going to comply with your gun control.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You would have a better chance of laying in the creek and kissing a copperhead than you would getting the firearms from Virginians.
INGRAHAM: I want to hang out with all those people; they look really fun. Joining me now is someone who was at that rally, Richard Vaughan, sheriff of Grayson County Virginia.
Sheriff, we really appreciate your being with us tonight. I know it wasn’t easy, so thanks so much. What is going to happen in your county if the bills that the Virginia Democrats are pushing go into effect?
SHERIFF RICHARD VAUGHAN: Grayson County is a Second Amendment sanctuary, and if these bills are passed as proposed, I know they can still make some changes on this bill. But if they are passed as proposed, they will not be enforced in Grayson County because they are unconstitutional. We took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Virginia, and that’s what we’re going to do. We are not going to arrest law-abiding citizens for having guns.
INGRAHAM: I pressed one of the State Democrat gun control advocates who serves now in the statehouse last week; he insisted, sheriff, that guns that are in possession of people now would be grandfathered in, and they wouldn’t be forced to be turned over, you wouldn’t have to turn your guns over. But that is not what I understand. There is a lot of loosey-goosey language in this legislation that would mean you become a felon if you own a particular type of semi-automatic weapon that has a big enough magazine in it, 10, more than 10, you are in big trouble.
VAUGHAN: Absolutely, Senate Bill 16 that died in the committee last week thankfully, but then there’s also a House bill to the same effect that could gun grab semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 which is an Armalite rifle. That is nothing but a .22 caliber rifle, it’s not much more than a squirrel gun. So these high-capacity magazines, why are we telling homeowners that they can’t have a high-capacity magazine there to defend themselves in these situations? We hear of cases all the time where we have home intruders coming into residences, and they need a high-capacity magazine to be able to defend themselves. A lot of people that are disabled have guns in the home and have to defend themselves.
INGRAHAM: Sheriff, we sent our Griff Jenkins down there, and he was all through the crowd today. These are people from all parts of the state, they were men, women, ethnically diverse, racially diverse, people who, most of them were carrying their weapons because they were outside the perimeter, but Northam didn’t allow anyone to go on the property near the capital with their firearm. And also, you can see the crowd is much more representative in the overhead shot there.
And then they didn’t allow drones. I didn’t understand that. The FAA said no drones could be flown overhead either, I guess to take pictures? I don’t even understand that. It seems like they are curtailing everybody’s rights going into this rally, almost hoping to tick people off to spark some kind of unrest, but that never happened.
VAUGHAN: Absolutely. It definitely was not a state of emergency. I spent several hours in the crowd in uniform with two of my deputies and some of my constituents. We met some of the best people in the country. We ate breakfast this morning with a gentleman from Houston who drove 19 hours just to be here in Virginia to help us protect our Second Amendment rights. We met people from Florida, Pennsylvania, militia groups, people carrying Armalite rifles, everybody there was armed. And they estimated nearly 60,000 people, yet there wasn’t a single person even arrested.
And the governor made the statement today that law enforcement did a great job of de-escalating the crowd. And I agree, law enforcement did do a great job, but there was no de-escalation needed. Everybody we met there came up to us, shook our hands, and thanked us for being there and standing up for their Second Amendment rights.
INGRAHAM: Sheriff, compare that to the Antifa rallies, what happens at those things, right? You’ve got people with clubs, and cement they’re throwing at people, and trash everywhere, and assaulting people, and the media does a big collective yawn. You guys show up, a huge rally for the Second Amendment, no problems, no trash, no assaults, and you get the sense the media is unhappy that this happened. They are unhappy it didn’t play up to their stereotype.
Sheriff, we are with you all the way. Stay safe out there. Thank you for what you do for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and for the cause of the Second Amendment. Thank you, sir.
The upshot is that Indian culture does not create the sort of egalitarian men that we expect in America, so continued immigration of the sort that now crowds Silicon Valley with cheap workers is a bad idea regarding women’s safety. Plus, plenty of Indians try the illegal entrance at the southern border.

NEW DELHI — The schoolgirls ran into the auditorium, shouting, “Let’s go, let’s go,” in Hindi as they ushered one another into single-file lines. Some adjusted the big, red bows that held their braids together, part of their school uniform. Then they crouched into defensive postures, fists ready.
“Oss!” they yelled — a karate greeting combining the Japanese words for push and persevere.
They bowed slightly to their mentors before unleashing a series of punches, karate chops and kicks, interspersed with occasional giggles, whispers and sheepish smiles.
“Do not laugh!” Police Constable Renu, who like many Indians goes by one name, called from the stage above them, her white T-shirt emblazoned with “Respect Women” on the back.
“Do you think they will laugh when they attack you?” she asked. “You must strike back with anger.”
The girls stifled their smiles, their fists pummeling the air faster, with more determination. This was their seventh self-defense class, and they were feeling confident enough, many of them said, to do the unthinkable: stand up for themselves.
Renu has been teaching this free, 10-day course hosted by New Delhi police — a combination of karate, taekwondo and judo moves — for the past eight years in the city’s public schools and universities.
The initiative, with classes taught by several female officers, also includes summer and winter camps for women, and a course called “gender sensitization for boys,” a lawyer-led course that teaches men how to help women in trouble and how to be more respectful to them in public spaces. It’s about making them “feel responsible towards girls and women,” Renu said.
Booked solid for the next six months, Renu said she has never been busier, as anxiety among women and girls grows with a stream of news headlines describing brutal assaults across the country, including recent national outrage after an 8-year-old girl was kidnapped, gang raped and murdered.
Since a 23-year-old woman, Jyoti Pandey Singh, was beaten, gang raped and fatally injured while riding a bus in the capital in 2012, women here have been on edge. That attack prompted intense soul-searching and a fierce public debate about an issue that, though long pervasive, was seldom addressed. It also gave many women the courage to come forward and demand justice in such assaults, rather than suffer in silence, too ashamed to speak up.

Its beginning can be traced to America’s handling of Europe’s defense needs following WWII as a part of rebuilding politically and keeping the place safe from predatory Russkies. The Europeans got used to the idea of a generous US paying their defense tab, which allowed them to build lavish welfare states in recent decades. At this point, Europe’s liberal ruling elites have become politically infantilized by their assumption that the US will protect them.

On Thursday, retired General Jack Keane expressed his disgust with NATO’s failure to fulfill its primary mission of protecting Europe.
JACK KEANE: Most of them lack moral and national will to defend their own people. It’s actually shameful what has taken place with NATO. ISIS has successfully conducted 32 attacks against eight NATO countries, killing hundreds of NATO citizens. And you have the head of NATO in the Wall Street Journal today saying that terrorism is threatening our values, our freedom and our very way of life. And yet in the same article he says but we’re not going to be involved in combat operations against ISIS. That is fundamentally a lack of will, and these are feckless leaders who are not going to stand up and defend their people.
This is how far NATO has dropped in terms of its effectiveness. After hundreds of people are killed, they’re still not willing to ask their soldiers to go out and risk their lives to protect their own citizens. That is the problem that Mr. Trump has with NATO. While he has financial issues with them to be sure — their not taking up the burdens financially of supporting the alliance — the real issue that’s even more significant is the lack of political and moral will.
Below is the Wall Street Journal opinion piece from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that Jack Keane mentioned, reprinted in Australia. It sounds tough enough most of the way through, but in the third paragraph from the end, the author states, “It would not mean NATO involvement in combat operations.”
In short, the top NATO honcho believes the life-threatening combat missions are the responsibility of the Americans, not Europeans. And that’s the problem in today’s Europe — the lack of will for self-defense.

At first glance, it’s simply a fragment of twisted metal outside NATO’s new headquarters in Brussels. But this 2m-long section of steel girder was recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Centre. At its official unveiling today, we will hail the artefact as a symbol of solidarity: Europe and North America standing together.
Two years ago I spoke at the 9/11 Memorial in New York. Being there, at the site of the attacks, reinforced my firm belief that however much terrorists try to divide us, they will only succeed in uniting us.
This is exactly what happened after 9/11. For the first time ever, NATO allies invoked our collective defence clause, Article 5. We recognised those shocking assaults on the US as an attack against us all.
In the days that followed, NATO planes patrolled US skies. Within weeks, troops from NATO allies deployed to Afghanistan to ensure that country would never again be a haven for international terrorists. The biggest combat operation in NATO history was launched in direct response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of Europeans, Canadians and troops from partner countries have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with their US comrades in Afghanistan. More than 1000 have paid the ultimate price. Many more have suffered life-changing injuries.
At this moment, approximately 13,000 troops from 39 NATO and partner countries are training Afghan security forces to stabilise the country.
And at a meeting of NATO leaders in Brussels today we will discuss how we can step up our fight against terrorism.
We never said it would be easy. On my visits to Afghanistan, I have witnessed the challenges, as well as the progress made. I was particularly impressed by my meeting with young Afghan women training to become pilots. I heard them express pride in what they are doing and appreciation for NATO’s support.
While NATO’s contribution to the fight against terrorism effectively began in Afghanistan, it now extends far wider.
NATO surveillance planes are supporting the coalition to defeat the so-called Islamic State. Iraqi troops trained by NATO to defuse improvised explosive devices are putting their skills to use in the battle for Mosul. We have taught soldiers counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency tactics in countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania and Morocco. And our highly skilled troops are helping Tunisia develop its own special forces.
Earlier this year, we opened a regional centre in Kuwait to enhance co-operation with our Gulf partners. We are also developing a new operational hub at our command in Naples, Italy, to improve our ability to anticipate and respond to crises in the region.
At our headquarters in Brussels we have set up a new intelligence and security division to improve our understanding of the threats we face.
At the same time, we are strengthening ties with the EU and UN. Both organisations’ counter-terrorism capabilities complement our own. And we are working hard throughout the alliance to make our societies more resilient to attack.
While I am very proud of what NATO is already doing in the fight against terrorism, I also believe NATO can do more. For instance, we have learned from our experiences in Afghanistan and elsewhere that training local forces is one of the best weapons we have in the fight against terrorism. It is far better, and more sustainable, to help our neighbours to stabilise their countries themselves. And if our neighbours are more stable, we are more secure. These efforts must be expanded.
There are other possibilities. Although NATO has assisted the coalition fighting Islamic State, it does not have a formal role. Having one would allow NATO to support political discussions in the coalition.
It would also improve co-ordination, for example, with training and capacity-building activities. It would not mean NATO involvement in combat operations.
We are also considering expanding our support to airspace surveillance for the coalition. An expanded training and capacity-building role for NATO’s special forces and the creation of a dedicated counter-terrorism intelligence cell are also under consideration.
Terrorism affects every NATO ally. It is a long-term threat to our values, freedom and way of life. And the alliance is ready to do more to counter this threat. The unique bond between Europe and North America has delivered unprecedented peace for almost seven decades, and NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism is an important chapter in that story.

Geert Wilders, the Dutch member of Parliament and leader of the Freedom Party, has some experience with defense against Islamic violence, having been on the hit list of jihadists since he became outspoken about the danger of Muslim immigration.
Below, Wilders posed with a local SWAT team when he spoke at the Mohammed cartoon contest in Garland, Texas. After Wilders left, the free speech event was attacked by two armed jihadists who were taken out by a Garland police officer with his service revolver.

“Cultural enrichment” has brought us a new word: Taharrush. Remember it well, because we are going to have to deal with it a lot. Taharrush is the Arabic word for the phenomenon whereby women are encircled by groups of men and sexually harassed, assaulted, groped, raped. After the Cologne taharrush on New Year’s Eve, many German women bought pepper spray. Who can blame them?
A culture that has a specific word for sexual assaults of women by groups of men is a danger to all women. The existence of the word indicates that the phenomenon is widespread. Frau Merkel, Prime Minister Rutte and all the other open-door politicians could and should have known this.
The Islamic world is steeped in misogyny. The Koran explicitly states that a woman is worth only half a man (Suras 2: 228, 2: 282, 4:11), that women are unclean (5:6), and that a man can have sex with his wife whenever he wants (24:31). The Koran even says that men are allowed to have sex slaves (4:24), and that they have the right to rape women whom they have captured (24:31).
The hadiths, the descriptions of the life of Muhammad, the ideal human being whose example all the Islamic faithful must follow, confirm that women are sex objects, that they are inferior beings like dogs and donkeys, and that there is nothing wrong with sexual slavery and raping female prisoners.
Taharrush is quite common in Islamic countries. Women are frequently surrounded by men and subsequently abused. The Egyptian website Jadaliyya points out that it also happens to veiled women. Women are victims simply because they are women and not because they have provoked the men by their conduct or “provocative” clothing. It can happen in the streets, public transport, supermarkets, or during protest demonstrations.
In 2011, the American television journalist Lara Logan had her clothes ripped off and “was raped with the hands” by a group of 200 men on Tahrir Square in Cairo. Two years later, a young Dutch woman became a taharrush victim at the same square. Now, along with the flow of migrants from the Islamic world, the phenomenon also reached Europe. The elite tried to keep it hidden from the people, but they cannot do so anymore.
Cartoonists in the West already experienced Islamic killers coming to their front door if they dare to draw Muhammad. Now, thousands of women in Cologne and dozens of cities in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, such as Zurich, Stockholm, Malmo, Vienna, experienced rapists standing behind the door if they dare take to the streets.
Islam means submission. And there is a good reason for it. The arrival of Islam has led to the curtailment of Western freedoms under the threat of violence. And this threat will only increase. It is an insidious process until the whole West submits to Islam.
Last week, the Mayor of Cologne advised her female citizens to keep strange men at an arm’s length. In Vienna, the head of the police said that in future women better not walk the streets alone. It seems that Austria will soon resemble Saudi Arabia, where women are not allowed alone in the streets. Earlier, in the Netherlands, women from families hosting asylum seekers had already been advised to wear “appropriate” clothes (even indoors), “so no prom dress or bare shoulders,” and to ensure that they are never alone in the room with male asylum seekers.
But the behavior of women has nothing to do with it.
Moreover, it is a disgrace that our women are advised to modify their behavior because the government has invited thousands of dangerous men into our country. When one imports Islam in the Netherlands, one also imports the misogynistic culture of Cairo, Damascus, Riyadh into our cities. Next to headscarves, burkas, mosques, honor killings, and terrorism, we now have taharrush.
The solution is not that our women keep an arm’s length from the male barbarians, but that the government keeps these men thousands of kilometers away from us. Until that happens, other measures are needed. It is irresponsible to turn our country into a jungle and subsequently send women unarmed into the jungle. They must at least have the right to defend themselves. Contrary to countries such as Germany and France, in our country it is illegal to carry pepper spray. With the Netherlands now being overrun by men who see women as inferior sex tools, it is time to legalize pepper spray in the Netherlands as a weapon against taharrush.

In Austria, there has been a rapid increase in the sales of weapons to private individuals. All long guns are currently completely sold out. Those arming themselves are primarily women. Austrians have begun to arm themselves with projectile weapons. If anyone wants to buy a long gun in Austria right now, too bad for them. All of them are currently sold out. This is reported by the Austrian outlet ‘Tiroler Tageszeitung’. It provides accessible information regarding the purchasers, which shows that all the stock is sold out.
“We cannot complain about lack of demand” says Stephan Mayer, a gun merchant.
He further claims this is the case for the last three weeks. The huge demand has its roots in fears generated by by social changes. “People want to protect themselves,” says Mayer. ”Nonetheless, the most common purchasers of arms are primarily Austrian women They are buying tear [pepper] sprays, which are much in demand,” says Mayer.
He claims that guns are truly in great demand, and more potential customers are entering the market than ever before.
Till not too long ago, the major customers of gun shops were mainly sport shooters or rangers. But the most common customers now are people who are worried about their personal safety, yet who had never had any involvement with weapons prior to this.
The Austrian Minister of Interior must be informed by the potential gun owner of the reason why they wish to have a permit to own a gun. On internet pages, there also appeared those who give this as a reason. Projectile weapons in categories C and D, that is rifles and shotguns, may be purchased by every adult Austrian, if he submits a request with the reason [to own the gun]. These may be for hunting, sport shooting or self defense.
Migration, in all of human history, comes with many worries, says Viennese sociologist Girtler. Some people see the main cause of danger in these foreigners, who have this aggression in their blood. Girtler stated that this fear is unfounded. According to this sociologists, no such claims should ever be published about migrants or any groups.
The Austrian journalist Wittinger (?) commented on the situation as follows: if the local residents are buying weapons because they want to use them to protect themselves against hunger and terror from the migrants, then something is very wrong here. Shotguns will not, after all, solve any immediate problems, quite the contrary. This article is published on the main page of SKA.
Islamists are sending this message: ”We will cut the heads off unbelieving dogs even in Europe. Look forward to it, it’s coming soon!” German security authorities, including the Federal Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maiziere, are again on full alert. One of about 500 of their jihadis who are fighting in the Middle East addressed his co-residents back home in a video, in which, in German, he urges the slitting the throats of unbelievers back home, in their country. That is, in Germany.
This is accordingly a new quality of propaganda, and threats which must be prevented. Overall, the Ministry of Interior stated that Germany is in the crosshairs of Islamic terrorists, but that he does not have any indications of specific threats, informs the server of the Czech portal of eurabia.cz with a link to German media.
Islamic State-trained Jihadists are now, as European citizens, returning, or they are trying to infiltrate into Europe as immigrants. More and more the whole thing is turning into the situation that we will experience the much-touted Arab Spring from very close up – right here, at home.
What’s more, many European states are alienating part of their own populace with unfortunate social and multicultural politics, merciless removal of children, unfair seizures, and trading on traditional European values and with policies which are usually less friendly towards conservative and traditional native inhabitants and leans towards that portion of inhabitants who have little trouble with globalization and nonchalant liberalization, removal of traditions, and Islamisation. Yet we will not be able to rely on it that portion of [population] once the Arab Spring comes here. And that will probably be, as they say, closing the barn after the cows are gone…

One of my new favorite websites to be checked every day or two is GunsSaveLives.net – Stories of Self-Defense, which aggregates the news accounts of citizens protecting themselves and their families using firearms.
As a Second-Amendment feminist, I particularly appreciate stories of women with guns prevailing over bad guys, like the young Texas mom who plunked one out of three hispanic gangsters invading her home.
Why doesn’t the NRA put together a video of Second Amendment women who can express how firearms are used every day in the defense of families? They are missing a big opportunity.
A recent example of self-defense was Sue Johnson, a grey-haired widow in North Carolina who pulled a gun out of her pocket when a robber showed up at her door and held him until the sheriff arrived.
Bonus points: she took a gun safety course at her church. Another plus: nobody was harmed in the confrontation, a situation which often is not reflected in anti-gun rhetoric. We hear the horror stories ad nauseum, but not the many instances of successful self-defense.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC (WRCB) — A man, wanted in Georgia, returned to the scene of his crime only to find himself staring down the barrel of a gun.
The woman holding it: a retired widow who says she wasn’t letting the man who stole from her get away.
“Never did I feel scared,” Sue Johnson says. “I was prepared to take care of myself.”
Sue Johnson came home to find she had been robbed.
“I got in from church and there was a mess everywhere,” says Johnson.
But it wasn’t until two days later she came face to face with the man who stole a shot gun, cell phone and medication from her house.
“There was a knock on my door,” Johnson says. “He was standing there with about a three foot long stick.”
Sue says 26-year-old Nathaniel Leatherwood returned to apologize.
“So I just pulled my gun out of my pocket and said I’m calling the sheriff’s office,” Johnson explains. “They’re going to come pick you up. I’m not going to let this happen to an old, retired lady who lives alone.”
Sheriff Keith Lovin arrived on scene, relieved Sue was not harmed.
“I hugged her neck and told her she’s my hero,” says Sheriff Lovin.
Just a few weeks earlier, the sheriff taught a gun safety course at Sue’s church.
He says all citizens should be prepared.
“A medical emergency or whether it’s a fire, whether it’s an intruder, whether it’s a natural disaster, I think sometimes citizens sometimes get complacent,” says Sheriff Lovin.
“Especially if you are a widow and live alone, you need to be taught to shoot and have something in your house to protect yourself,” says Johnson.
While Leatherwood won’t be out of jail any time soon, Sue says she’s ready should trouble coming knocking again.
“I just go to bed each night and sleep through,” Sue says. “Whatever happens will happen.”
Investigators say Leatherwood knew Sue and had been staking out her house. He was wanted in Georgia for violating his probation.
He’s being held on second degree burglary and larceny charges.
