Media attention is helpful, because officials like to ignore the fact that open borders have been very harmful to young Americans, from dumbing down primary grades to allowing murderous foreign gangs to terrorize high schools.

On Thursday, the Times included the photo below on its front page.

Wednesday’s story, titled With student’s killing, MS-13 gang’s bloody campaign ensnared LA-area high school, included the following diversity fact as the 23rd paragraph:

Nearly 91% of Panorama High students entered school as children with limited English skills. Even in high school, about 30% remain in classes for non-native speakers.

But more alarming was Thursday’s article which highlighted the cover-up perpetuated by law enforcement and school administrators: a student was reportedly murdered by MS-13 gangsters, two of whom who also attend the school, but parents didn’t need to know. Plus, the paper wrote, “MS-13 had established a significant beachhead at Panorama” which is the language of conquest. Open borders have terrible effects.

MS-13 gang created beachhead at LA-area high school, but authorities insisted on secrecy, Los Angeles Times, July 27, 2019

LOS ANGELES — Law enforcement and school officials have defended 21 months of secrecy around the murder investigation of a Panorama High School student at the hands of MS-13 — one part of a grisly rampage that has generated national headlines and left at least 10 people dead.

They said there was no need to alert teachers, parents and students because other students were never in danger, the gang had little presence on campus, and no acts of gang violence affected the campus itself.

But a month before the October 2017 off-campus slaying of Brayan Andino, another incident linked to MS-13 erupted at the edge of the San Fernando Valley campus.

At least two MS-13 members, including two former Panorama students, are suspected of stabbing and wounding a student as he was leaving school, officials acknowledged.

According to a federal indictment unsealed this month, the assailants approached the victim, identified in court documents as B.C., and yelled, “MS!” — signifying their gang affiliation. They challenged “whether B.C. was from a rival gang,” according to the indictment.

The student “said he did not ‘gangbang,’” but the attackers paid no heed and “stabbed B.C. in the back and abdomen” as he tried to climb over the school’s perimeter fence. The injured student was enrolled in Cal Burke High School, an alternative program on the Panorama campus that has a separate entrance. The attackers fled and B.C. staggered to the school office, which called for help.

Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that MS-13 had established a significant beachhead at Panorama. And, although Brayan, 16, was killed off campus, it was two girls at the school who investigators say coaxed him to Lake Balboa Park, where gang members, including other classmates, were waiting.

The L.A. Unified School District has denied the presence of a gang clique at the school and said it left the question of whether parents and students should have been alerted to investigators.

As details of the gang’s connections have become public over the last week, some parents and teachers have questioned why officials didn’t alert the campus community earlier.

Only after authorities announced federal indictments of 22 adults on racketeering and murder charges on July 16 did officials with the Los Angeles Unified School District acknowledge that students from Panorama High had also been arrested.

Prosecutors allege that all of the accused are members of a violent subset of MS-13 that killed seven people — including Brayan — over a span of more than two years. Three more deaths linked to MS-13 are being handled in state court, officials said.

“In situations like these, we rely on the best judgment of the law enforcement experts who are working to uncover the truth and bring perpetrators to justice,” said school board member Kelly Gonez, who represents that area. “The best way to ensure the safety of our students, staff and families at Panorama High School and the broader community is to ensure that these violent criminals are arrested and put in jail.”

One result of the secrecy was that after Brayan went missing in late October 2017, school administrators said nothing about it. When his body was found in mid-December they continued to stay mum. Nor was there word about his funeral or any statements of condolence. Principal Rafael Gaeta referred to Brayan as “missing,” said staff members interviewed by the Times. The school district has declined to make Gaeta available for an interview. (Continues)

Santa Clara County Considers Its Sanctuary Policy following Preventable Murder https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2019/04/10/santa-clara-county-considers-its-sanctuary-policy-following-preventable-murder/ Wed, 10 Apr 2019 21:32:10 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=17652 Wednesday’s San Jose Mercury News included a front page story considering how Santa Clara County should treat illegal aliens living there after a shocking crime.

Local open-border types brought their signs showing support for lawbreaking foreigners rather than public safety for the community.

The meeting was prompted by the terrible murder of Bambi Larson, stabbed to death in her home by an unlawful foreigner, reported here last month: San Jose Woman Is Murdered by Salvadoran Illegal Who Was Protected by California Sanctuary Policy

The accused killer had a long criminal record including previous deportation, and the police chief said that he could have been turned over to ICE half a dozen times.

There was no question that the perp is a really bad character, and a prompt deportation may well have saved Larson’s life. Yet there was strong support for general non-enforcement of immigration laws in the meeting, even against violent felons. Larson’s cousin, Rick Loek, was taken aback by some of the crowd’s preference, noting, “I’m surprised anybody would argue in favor of keeping a violent criminal in this country.”

Meanwhile, California’s new governor, Gavin Newsom, is already campaigning against President Trump with a swing through El Salvador, apparently because 680,000 Salvadorans reside in his state. A little early to be looking for a new job, no?

But back to the preventable murder in San Jose:

Santa Clara County supervisors vote to explore changes to sanctuary policy, San Jose Mercury News, April 9, 2019

After tense seven-and-a-half hour hearing with emotional public testimony, supervisors direct county staff and law enforcement to study feasibility of notifying ICE of jail releases of undocumented immigrants with violent criminal histories

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to explore ways to soften the county’s sanctuary policy, allowing local law enforcement to notify immigration authorities when an undocumented immigrant with a history of violent or other serious crime is released from jail.

The vote, shortly before 6 p.m., came after a seven-and-a-half hour meeting where emotions ran high and tempers sometimes flared, as the public weighed in on changing the policy, which currently forbids such notification.

More than 300 people showed up for the meeting, forcing officials to close the doors and send the overflow crowd to another room, where they could watch the debate on a television screen. Supervisors Mike Wasserman, Dave Cortese, Joseph Simitian and Cindy Chavez voted to approve the two proposals put before the board, which authorize staff and local law enforcement to investigate possible mechanisms for the policy shift and report back within 60 days.

“I am in favor of removing individuals who have committed serious and violent crimes, and have been convicted of doing so, from our communities however and whenever possible,” Wasserman said, stressing that his plan would not remove sanctuary protections against civil detainer requests from immigration agents.

Supervisor Susan Ellenberg was the lone opposition vote against the proposals, saying they would needlessly change “a policy that is working,” and argued that immigrants were being scapegoated for fueling crime when studies show they commit fewer crimes on average than U.S.-born residents.

She added that with any sanctuary policy changes, “public safety may be negligibly impacted but the impact on tens of thousands of vulnerable, law abiding residents and on vulnerable children in our county would be substantial, traumatic and lasting.”

The move to modify the county’s policy came in the wake of the brutal killing of 59 year-old Bambi Larson in her South San Jose home in February, allegedly by an undocumented immigrant wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Local law enforcement leaders proposed an amendment to the policy that would allow notification in cases where an undocumented immigrant who had committed crimes of violence or other serious offenses was about to be freed. County police leaders and the District Attorney have already drafted language for such a change.

Santa Clara County’s policy is stricter than state law, which bars law enforcement officials from aiding ICE by detaining undocumented immigrants but allows notification about inmates’ release. A majority of speakers at Tuesday’s meeting, however, appeared to oppose any alteration to a policy they see as a beacon for other counties.

Katiuska Pimentel Vargas, an undocumented San Jose resident and organizer with the Services, Immigrant Rights, and Education Network, told the supervisors that for immigrants already fearful of authorities, there is no middle ground for local police to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

“You can’t be pro-ICE and be an ally of my community,” Pimentel said.

The fallout from Larson’s killing on Feb. 28 — and the subsequent arrest of Carlos Arevalo-Carranza, 24, a native of El Salvador who, according to ICE officials, was the subject of six civil detainer requests denied by the county — has created fault lines in a liberal community where views on immigration have been relatively homogenous.

Rick Loek, a cousin of Larson, said he was surprised by how controversial the policy proposal change had become.

“This is a game of Russian roulette,” he said. “You don’t know when we release one of these people what’s going to happen.”

“I’m surprised anybody would argue in favor of keeping a violent criminal in this country,” he said. “And I want to be careful with my words — it’s not, ‘throw everybody out.’ Our country was founded on welcoming people here.” (Continues)

South of the Border, Drug War Racks Up Record Murders in Tijuana https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2019/02/03/south-of-the-border-drug-war-racks-up-record-murders-in-tijuana/ Mon, 04 Feb 2019 00:23:13 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=17409 Sunday’s Los Angeles Times headlined the drug crime in Tijuana with a rather raw picture of a shooting victim, killed in the current conflict.

Sunday’s Los Angeles Times headlined the drug crime in Tijuana with a rather raw picture of a shooting victim, killed in the current conflict.

The photo caption below reads: A Red Cross paramedic examines the body of a man shot in an alleyway in Tijuana, where a record 2518 people were slain in 2018.

The article is a visceral horror story of deadly violence, and is a reminder that America borders the Third World, specifically one of the most dangerous nations on earth. In fact, last year saw a record high rate of murders in Mexico as a whole, so the Tijuana violence is not an outlier.

San Diego is fortunate to have a border wall to keep most of the diverse crime in Mexico: as noted by the Times, the California city had a 2018 homicide rate of just over 2 killings per 100,000 residents, compared with Tijuana’s 140 killings per 100,000.

Meth and murder: A new kind of drug war has made Tijuana one of the deadliest cities on Earth, Los Angeles Times, January 30, 2019

It seemed like everyone in Christian Castillo’s life was getting killed or running from death.

Two neighbors on his block were gunned down, along with the taco vendor at the end of the street. Then came a childhood friend of Castillo’s mother who had started selling drugs and was shot dead with her husband. Soon their son was executed, too.

Castillo, who until a few years ago held a good job at a Tijuana insurance company, didn’t attend any of the funerals. He was too busy getting high and trying not to be killed next.

“It felt like death was following me,” he said.

Tijuana, a city of 1.8 million that not long ago was celebrating a major reduction in violence, is in the grip of an unprecedented homicide crisis.

A record 2,518 people were killed here in 2018 — nearly seven times the total in 2012. With 140 killings per 100,000 people, Tijuana is now one of the deadliest cities in the world.

Across the border in San Diego, there were 34 homicides last year, or just over 2 killings per 100,000 people.

The root cause of the bloodshed is fundamentally different from previous iterations of violence in Tijuana.

In the past, the body count was driven by powerful drug cartels battling over lucrative trafficking routes to the United States. Now the main cause is competition in a growing local drug trade, with low-level dealers sometimes dying over the right to sell drugs on a single street corner.

Local and state officials estimate that up to 90% of the city’s homicides are linked to local drug sales, and authorities say they are seeing a similar pattern in Juarez, Cancun and other Mexican cities at the forefront of a nationwide rise in killings, which have nearly doubled over the last three years.

“We’re at war,” said Jesus Escajadillo, a medical examiner at Tijuana’s morgue, who one morning last summer was stooped over a tattooed body in a Lakers jersey, using forceps to dig out the bullet that had destroyed the man’s face. “We are living through a civil war.”

Morgue workers burn incense, run air purifiers and dispense dust masks to visitors to battle the stench of death, but at times bodies pile up on the floor and the smell seeps outside, sickening neighbors down the street. . . .

I reported on the case in August: Refugee Criminals Are Sad about Facing Deportation.

Ai originally got a life sentence for second-degree murder — so the judge and jury took the crime seriously despite the perp being a teenager — but spent only 20 years in San Quentin, since this is California after all.

On Saturday, the San Jose Mercury News brought us the news of Ai’s worries in a sympathetic front-page article — as if Americans should disagree with deporting foreign killers.

Cambodian immigrants fear more ICE raids on the horizon, San Jose Mercury News, December 22, 2018

It’s only been a few days since an Omni Air flight carrying 36 deportees, rounded up and detained by ICE earlier this year, landed in Cambodia. But already, immigrant communities in the Bay Area and across California are bracing themselves for more.

[. . .]

Borey “Peejay” Ai was born in a refugee camp in Thailand to Cambodian parents who fled genocide by the Khmer Rouge regime.

On the day he was freed from San Quentin — having served 20 years for the 1996 slaying of a Berryessa liquor store owner when he was 14 — ICE was waiting outside. Ai, who became one of the youngest people in California to be given a life sentence for murder, spent nearly two years in ICE detention. The state Supreme Court on Monday blocked Gov. Jerry Brown’s attempt to issue him a pardon, which could have kept him in the country. Ai’s case still sits in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. But deportation looms.

“I’m in limbo,” he said. “I’m not moving forward. I’m constantly thinking about my vulnerability to being deported.”

During his time in prison, Ai became a state certified counselor for domestic violence victims through a group called Guiding Rage into Power, which gave him a job after his release. He’s worked extensively with Kid CAT, a rehabilitative program at San Quentin praised for its focus on self improvement through education and counseling. Ai is also part of the Asian Prisoner Support Committee in Oakland, which works to rehabilitate former convicts as they re-enter society.

As he helps community members facing deportation, he deals with the reality that he, too, can be deported at any moment.

“I think about that everyday,” he said. “Everyday since I got out it’s been on my mind.”

Mollie certainly thought it wouldn’t be dangerous to take a run near her home, but a foreigner followed her in his car, kidnapped and killed her.

Below, Mexican illegal Cristhian Rivera is under arrest for the murder of college student Mollie Tibbetts.

I’ve been followed while on foot by strange men in cars, and it is unnerving — they can run you down if they want.

Every crime committed by an illegal alien is a preventable one; the fact that so many Americans have been killed by foreigners who shouldn’t be here shows how little elites and the political class care about public safety. Now Mollie’s family must join a tragic group of parents and relatives who have lost loved ones to illegal alien crime — like the parents who spoke at Donald Trump’s nominating convention.

Agnes Gibboney, who lost her son to illegal alien crime, said Mollie’s murder by an illegal alien was “unacceptable.”

It looks like local police did good investigative work to find the killer. Unfortunately, Iowa does not have the death penalty. Killer Cristhian Rivera claims he “blacked out” at the moment of the actual murder, so the insanity defense is likely. He will probably be portrayed as the victim, as happened to a degree with the killer of Kate Steinle.

Another important question is the employment of Rivera — which curiously is unspecified now — where was he working? If America had universal E-verify to weed out illegal alien workers, their numbers would drop like a rock, since American jobs are the only reason the invaders are here.

Illegal immigrant charged with Mollie Tibbetts’ murder, New York Post, August 21, 2018

An “illegal alien” is in custody for the murder of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts, according to police officials.

Cristhian Rivera, 24, was charged Tuesday in Poweshiek County after being brought in without incident by local cops.

Investigators spoke to him at length about what happened on July 18 — when he allegedly abducted Tibbetts — and revealed what he said during an afternoon press conference.

According to officials, Rivera told cops that he saw the young woman running, circled around a few times in his car, and eventually approached her.

He got out an ran up behind Tibbetts and accidentally spooked her — causing the 20-year-old to panic, officials said.

Rivera told cops that he then blacked out, and didn’t come to again until after Tibbetts was already dead — at the intersection in rural Poweshiek County where investigators found her body.

Cops would not say when the young college student was left there.

Rick Rahn, special agent in charge at the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, told reporters that federal officials were able to confirm Rivera’s status as an illegal immigrant after he was brought into custody on Monday.

“He’s an illegal alien, been in this area for four to seven years,” Rahn said.

Investigators were able to link Rivera to the missing person case after catching his black Chevy Malibu on surveillance camera the day Tibbetts disappeared. He was allegedly tailing her as she ran.

“He followed her around,” Rahn said. “Circled around a couple times, located her, then began to interface with her.” (Continues)

In fact, enforcement has become so strict that even a convicted foreign murderer might be deported!

A recent front page of the San Jose Mercury-News featured the travails of young criminal refugees which included a photo of a killer who may soon get a free ride home. What’s more fascinating is the story about that person, who at age 14 shot dead a liquor store owner during a robbery and was sentenced to life in prison.

But since this is California, Thai refugee Boray Ai was released after serving 20 years in San Quentin. Why he was not immediately deported is somewhat unclear; nevertheless he is still here and hoping for a pardon from Gov Jerry Brown who is about to retire and won’t fear any voters blaming him for being soft on murderers.

Note to “journalists” — using a murderer as a subject in an immigrant sob story may not be the best choice to generate sympathy.

In Trump’s America, childhood crimes haunt Bay Area Cambodian and Vietnamese refugees, San Jose Mercury-News, August 2, 2018

Had Phuoc Thang been born in the United States, the 38-year-old electrician would be quietly raising his young family in their comfy Berryessa home, having turned his life around nearly two decades after serving time in San Quentin for drug possession.

Had he been born in Central America or Mexico, he’d likely already have been deported.

But because he was born in a refugee camp in Indonesia to Vietnamese parents who fled communism, things are much more complicated. Thang is part of a unique group of hundreds of Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees living in limbo after committing crimes long ago — some as teenagers — that cost them their green cards. [. . .]

Borey “Peejay” Ai was born in a refugee camp in Thailand to Cambodian parents who fled genocide by the Khmer Rouge regime. The family immigrated to the U.S. when Ai was 5. But growing up in a troubled family in a crime-ridden neighborhood in Stockton, Ai struggled to fit in. As a young boy, he witnessed his 7-year-old cousin get gunned down in the infamous Cleveland Elementary School massacre of 1989. Five children were shot to death.

Seven years later, he was the one pulling the trigger. At 14, Ai pled guilty to second-degree murder in the 1996 slaying of a Berryessa liquor store owner during a robbery, becoming one of the youngest people in California to be given a life sentence for murder.

He served 20 years in San Quentin and was granted parole in 2016. But on the day he was freed, ICE was waiting outside.

Ai spent nearly two years at the Rio Consumes detention facility in Elk Grove. He’s appealed his deportation order and has asked Gov. Jerry Brown to pardon his crime, which eventually could allow him to stay in the United States.

But even as Brown — who last year pardoned Cambodians Mony Neth and Rottanak Kong, convicted of possessing stolen guns and felony joyriding, respectively — weighs this decision and as Ai’s case sits in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, he could be deported at any minute.

“It’s devastating,” said Ai. “It hurts. There’s no way to describe it. I can’t get comfortable, I can’t do anything because I know that at some point it can be gone. It can be taken from me.” (Continues)

Is this a great country or what? Even a convicted foreign murderer expects all the rights and privileges of a law-abiding American citizen.

By way of contrast, the network recently replayed Frontline’s Exodus documentary about the travails of Syrian refugees, and it was a cloying pile-on of human suffering and unwatchable as a result.

Malcolm Brabant, the journalist on the current report, has been broadcast on the NewHour before, telling the troubles of Europe struggling with the immigration onslaught loosed by elites on the citizens. He shows a proper liberal concern for the downtrodden of the world, but also reveals the genuine social chaos resulting when masses of people descend upon the continent. In 2015, he reported about Hungary’s border fence to keep out unfriendly muslims. A year later, Brabant reported Sweden’s reinstitution of borders after it became overwhelmed with hundreds of thousands of foreigners.

The recent Newshour report from Brabant focused on crime, starting with a march of concerned German citizens in the town of Kandel after the brutal murder of a 15-year-old girl by an asylum seeker who is believed to be older.

Below, Kandel townspeople demanded that “Merkel must go” as they protested alien crime.

And Germans aren’t imagining the crime problem, Brabant reports. A government study has found that violent crime is up by 10 percent between 2014 and ’16 in Lower Saxony. Plus, over 90 percent of the crime increase is caused by young male migrants.

Crime spike in Germany puts pressure on immigration policy, PBS NewsHour, February 7, 2018

John Yang: As we reported earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced a deal to form a new coalition government. In the last election, she lost seats in Parliament to the right-wing Alternative for Germany party, or AFD.

A big issue was her decision to open the borders to more than a million migrants and refugees in 2015. Now, with AFD, the main opposition party, Merkel is facing demands to step up deportations of young male migrants.

As special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports, that follows a finding that they are largely responsible for an increase of violent crime in Germany.

Malcolm Brabant: A brutal murder in Kandel, Southern Germany, has placed the country’s open-door immigration policy under intense scrutiny. These marchers demanded protection and security for women and children, after a 15-year-old local girl, Mia Valentin. was stabbed to death by a young Afghan asylum seeker.

Her alleged killer claimed to be 15, but there are suggestions that he was older, exploiting a system which forbids the deportation of minors.

Lawyer Martina Boeswald: I am mother of three children, and we are here together to protest against the aggressivity of people who are grabbing our children, and who are — who bring fear in our country. We want to live in peace. And this is the fault of Angela Merkel.

Malcolm Brabant: The demonstration in Kandel was nominally organized by a women’s alliance, but the anti-immigrant AFD, or Alternative for Germany party, was well-represented.
Myriam Kern is a former AFD councillor-

Myriam Kern (through interpreter): Since Germany has been pursuing the policy of open borders that is illegal, against our constitution, against our law and order, we have massive problems, as we do not know who comes into this country. We are not in control. We have lost control. We do not know what identity, what people are coming here.

Malcolm Brabant: This is a place that has traditionally been tolerant. It has welcomed refugees. But what they’re saying is that if murder can happen in a small town like Kandel, it can happen anywhere else in Germany.

The marchers chanted that “Merkel must go,” along with other slogans decrying Germany’s multiculturalism. In Kandel’s main square, they were confronted by anti-racism advocates who accused them of purveying Nazi propaganda.

Raymond Tremell: A girl has been killed, and that’s all. She isn’t killed because she’s German and someone is a foreigner. She’s just been killed, and you mustn’t make demonstration here against foreigners.

Doris Fuchs (through interpreter): Naturally, one has to do something against crime, yes. But, here, it is not about the crime anymore. Here, it is about simply vilifying people that come here seeking help. They want to get rid of them.

Malcolm Brabant: But a new government-sponsored crime study has generated more gloom for supporters of Germany’s liberal migration policy. It was conducted in Lower Saxony, the country’s fourth largest state, where violent crime rose by 10 percent between 2014 and ’16.

The impact can be seen at Hanover’s main station, where large squads of police are on duty. Rising crime has been added to the burden of anti-terrorist duties. According to the study’s author, Christian Pfeiffer, 92 percent of the violent crime increase is attributed to young male migrants, especially those from North Africa.

Nolen had been suspended from Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma, for making racist remarks; plus he also had converted to Islam while in prison, where too many rough characters get converted to the religion of murder.

Nolen was stopped from committing any more mayhem by a man with a gun, Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff’s deputy and the company’s chief operating officer.

Below, Colleen Hufford (left) was killed in Nolen’s attack and Traci Johnson (right) was slashed, as jurors heard during the trial.

Naturally, the killer claimed he was following the koran, which instructs muslims to treat non-muslims harshly, e.g. “When you meet the unbelievers, strike the necks” (Qur’an 47:4).

Nolen was a born-here convert, but continuing muslim immigration and increasing their numbers is normalizing the totalitarian political system into something acceptable in America, which it is not.

NORMAN, Okla. — An Oklahoma man was formally sentenced Friday morning for beheading a coworker at a food plant.

Alton Nolen, 33, was convicted of first degree murder in late September for beheading his coworker Colleen Hufford inside Vaughan Foods in September 2014. Following a two-phase trial beginning in mid-September, jurors recommended Nolen be sentenced to death in October.

By then, he had already been handed three life sentences plus 130 years combined on assault charges for stabbing another coworker Traci Johnson and attacking other workers inside the plant that day. Johnson survived the attack.

In October, she told reporters she did not know if she could ever forgive Nolen for his actions.

“Mr. Nolen, I don’t understand why you did what you did to me and Colleen and the other gentlemen, but that was wrong and you know it was,” she said. “I pray for you.”

In 2014, Nolen justified his actions to investigators by claiming he was a practicing Muslim and believed his actions were correct by the Quran. During closing arguments in October, Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Masburn noted Nolen asked for the death penalty at one point.

“He wants it, because he thinks something good is waiting for him on the other side. Give it to him, and let him find out,” Mashburn told the jury.

In court Friday morning, Judge Lori Walkley accepted the recommendation of the jury, sentencing Nolen to death by lethal injection for beheading Hufford.

Somali Cop Shoots Innocent Woman: Tribe Claims Backlash https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2017/07/18/somali-cop-shoots-innocent-woman-tribe-claims-backlash/ Wed, 19 Jul 2017 06:14:32 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=15428 In Minneapolis, the local Muslim reaction over the murder of Australian woman Justine Damond by a Somali immigrant policeman has taken on a familiar theme — the old “backlash” dodge which attempts to make the Somalis into the victim.

Below, Justine Damond was shot dead by Mohamed Noor, an officer in the Minneapolis Police Department when she tried to report a crime.

Portraying Minnesota Somalis as the injured party is a heavy lift, largely because of their years-long record of violence, jihad and non-assimilation. In 2009 (when the Somali population of the state was only 32,000), the AP reported that the Rise of Somali Gangs Plagues Minneapolis. In the same year, Shirwa Ahmed (a 2000 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis), traveled to Somalia to blow up himself and 29 others in Mogadishu.

Last September Somali refugee Dahir Aden stabbed 10 persons in a St. Cloud shopping center while shouting Allah. Making local people fear a jihad attack while browsing in the mall will not convince them trust Muslim immigrants.

Dozens of young Somalis have returned to their cultural homeland to pursue jihad, like the fabulous foursome shown below. Why does Washington continue to import a people that doesn’t like Americans?

Some of those who remain don’t care to assimilate to American values: when filmmaker Ami Horowitz interviewed Somalis in Minneapolis, quite a few said they would rather live under sharia than American law. (Hint: Mogadishu has a brand new airport despite the recent al Shabaab unpleasantness.)

So if indeed there is a backlash against Somalis in Minnesota, an argument can be made that they brought on distrust and ill feeling themselves, by their years of violence, jihad and hatred of the US — which Americans have recognized as a threat.

After Minneapolis officer in police shooting is named, Somali community braces for backlash, Washington Post, July 18, 2017

When Mohamed Noor joined the Minneapolis police force and was assigned to patrol the city’s southwest corner, the Somali community there — the nation’s largest — threw a party for him to celebrate.

He was the first Somali American officer to serve in Minneapolis’s fifth precinct and one of fewer than a dozen Somali American officers in the department. His presence on the squad brought Somali activists some pride and reassurance at a time of Islamophobia in America and nationwide racial tension stoked in part by shootings of black people by white police officers.

Now that same Somali community is bracing for a backlash against Noor that has already begun.

On Monday, multiple media outlets named Noor as the officer who fatally shot an unarmed Australian woman in the city’s popular Fulton neighborhood over the weekend, an incident that has grabbed global attention and thrust Minneapolis into yet another uproar over police violence….

The report stoked fear among Somalis in the Twin Cities, who have worked for decades to become part of the city’s fabric. There are now Somalis on the police force, the city council and in the Minnesota House of Representatives. But the largely Muslim population of Somali Americans in the region still face Islamophobia and innuendo about terrorism.

“They fear this will be just another event used to create animosity toward the Somali community,” Mohamud Noor, executive director at the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota, told The Post.

Already, hateful posts criticizing Islam and sharia law are filling social media in response to the police shooting. Several far-right blogs featured sensational headlines that blamed the officer’s ethnicity for the deadly use of force.

Other Somali officers in the police department are “nervous,” Jamal said.

“They’re not talking at all,” he said. “You can feel the pressure, because you know, the difference now is ‘one of you guys did it.’ ”

“The fact that the police involved in the shooting is Somali makes it a different matter,” he said.

Mohamud Noor, who is not related to the officer, is also a city council candidate. He and others in the Somali community have protested other police shootings in the region along with Black Lives Matter, but this one “changes the narrative,” he said. Usually, they are protesting the death of black men at the hands of police, he said. Now it is a white woman reportedly shot by a black officer.

He hopes the conversation will focus on police reform, not racial stereotypes.

“This is the time to bring people together,” he said. “We have so many questions. What happened? Why were the body cameras off?”…

After Noor’s welcome party to the fifth precinct last year, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges posted a note on Facebook saying his arrival had been “highly celebrated, particularly by the Somali community” and was “a wonderful sign of building trust and community policing at work.”

The case seemed a slam-dunk in terms of evidence being quickly assembled. Less than a week after the crime, the New York Times reported that Chander confessed.

Perhaps the diversity aspect, particularly the motivation of caste differences that Indians include in their cultural baggage, made the court happy to drag the trial out for years. Why remind Americans that all diversity is not equal?

It was a terrible crime, but could have been far worse. Chander poured gasoline and lit it near the door of the young family’s apartment, but the whole building of 36 units went up in flames, leaving more than 70 individuals homeless. Residents were jumping from balconies to escape.

Prosecutor Robert Milan remarked, “It could have been one of the largest homicides in American history but for the grace of God.”

Below, the scene of the 2007 arson fire that killed three in Oak Forest, a suburb of Chicago.

Unsurprisingly, the ChiTrib referred to the culturally motivated killer from India as an “Oak Forest man.”

More than seven years after an Oak Forest couple and their 3-year-old son died in a fire at their apartment building, a Cook County jury convicted the woman’s father of setting the fire.

Subhash Chander, 64, was found guilty late Thursday by a jury of three counts of first-degree murder for spreading gasoline at the 36-unit building and igniting it — apparently out of anger that his daughter had married beneath her status in India’s caste system and without his consent, according to prosecutors.

Killed in the December 2007 blaze, which destroyed the building, 15859 LeClaire Ave., were Monika Rani, 22, who was about five months pregnant with her second child; her husband Rajesh Arora, 30; and their son, Vansh Kumar. Their bodies were found inside the building.

Chander, who lived across the street from the couple, has been held without bail at the Cook County Jail since Jan. 1, 2008, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman said. His sentencing is scheduled for April 16. He faces life imprisonment.

Charges of arson and the intentional homicide of an unborn child were dropped at trial, according to court records.

Oak Forest police and firefighters responded to the fire at the 36-unit building on Dec. 29, 2007, and after it was extinguished, determined that the second floor had collapsed and found the three victims.

Investigators located a witness who saw a man of Indian descent in the first-floor hallway immediately after the start of the fire, carrying a plastic container that smelled of gasoline, according to evidence at the trial at the county courthouse in Markham.

The witness told police that the man lived across the street, and when officers went to Chander’s apartment, they noticed a strong odor of gasoline and found a plastic pharmaceutical bottle, nearly a gallon in size, containing gasoline in a trash bin outside his apartment building, prosecutors said. The container was labeled with Chander’s name, evidence showed.

Video surveillance revealed a man matching Chander’s description using the same container to buy gas about two hours before the start of the fire, according to prosecutors. Multiple witnesses, including the gas station attendant, positively identified Chander in a physical lineup, evidence showed.

Chander and his son-in-law had a strained relationship throughout his marriage to Rani, which lasted a little more than three years, Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Milan told the Chicago Tribune in 2008.

“Apparently there’s been trouble going on between the two of them for years. It’s pretty clear from the defendant’s own statements and other evidence that we have that he did not like his son-in-law at all,” Milan said.

When police and firefighters arrived at the two-story building that night, residents were jumping from the balconies and flames were consuming the structure — a scene that Oak Forest police investigator Bob Frias will never forget.

“I remember seeing the sheer devastation, the sense of loss in people’s eyes. And that was before we realized three people died. It could have been dozens more,” Frias said Friday.

He said thanks to the eyewitness, the investigation quickly led to Chander, and police “knew we had the right guy” when he was arrested the next day. Chandler smelled of gasoline, he said, adding that a “little dab of that goes a long way.”

Frias thanked the witnesses who testified during the trial, which was delayed for years by legal maneuvering, including appeals of various pretrial rulings.

After all that time, “they had the courage and commitment to still come forward and cooperate,” he said. “And the state’s attorney’s office was as determined and committed as we were” to obtain a conviction.
