Montgomery County – Limits to Growth https://www.limitstogrowth.org An iconoclastic view of immigration and culture Fri, 28 Feb 2020 04:56:28 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.3 Montgomery County (Sanctuary) Remains Popular for Illegal Alien Criminals https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2020/02/27/montgomery-county-sanctuary-remains-popular-for-illegal-alien-criminals/ Fri, 28 Feb 2020 04:56:28 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=18654 In the annals of Sanctuary zones for protecting illegal alien criminals, Montgomery County Maryland might be considered notorious. Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur remarked in an August 28 interview with Tucker Carlson, “Montgomery County probably has one of the strongest anti-ICE policies that I can think of.”

Last summer, the county had a run of weekly arrests of illegal aliens for rape and sexual assault.

In fact, Montgomery County’s Sanctuary policy and the resulting crime wave by illegal aliens prompted a protest rally in September attended by writer Michelle Malkin and radio host Larry O’Connor.

Fast forward to the present, and the Sanctuary policy and illegal alien crime both remain in the county.

On Wednesday, Laura Ingraham presented a brief history of Trump vs. sanctuary, then followed with the most recent illegal alien sex crime.

Spare audio:

TUCKER CARLSON: The Trump administration won a victory in Federal Court today and its ongoing fight against the nation’s many sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. Chief breaking news correspondent, Trace Gallagher has the details on what happened. Hey, Trace.

TRACE GALLAGHER: Hey, Tucker. This is a big battle victory for the President because it means he might go on to win the war.

Remember back in 2017, the administration moved to withhold about $400 million in federal grant money from cities and states that have implemented sanctuary laws and policies where they refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities when it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants.

The cities and states quickly filed lawsuits and a series of lower courts ruled in their favor. Later, the more liberal 3rd, 7th, and 9th Circuit Courts of Appeal upheld the lower court decisions saying the administration had to give up the grant money.

But now the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York has sided with the administration and because there is now a major conflict between the various Circuit Courts, it’s likely the Supreme Court will step in to make the final call and decide from the court leaning five-four conservative, SCOTUS has repeatedly and long said the Federal government maintains broad power over states when it comes to immigration policies — Tucker.

CARLSON: Interesting. Trace Gallagher, thanks for that.

GALLAGHER: Sure.

LAURA INGRAHAM: This was a huge victory for the Trump administration today. A federal appeals court ruling that he can in fact withhold funding from so-called sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE. Perhaps the president should start with the sanctuary in his own backyard, the D.C. suburb of Montgomery County, Maryland, just a few miles from where we are broadcasting tonight.

In the span of just two months in 2019, the county saw at least nine illegal aliens arrested for rape and sex abuse crimes, many of them against children. And this week we saw perhaps the most disturbing case yet. Two high school students aged 19 and 20, yes, you heard that right, were arrested and charged with raping two different 11-year-old girls — 11-year-olds. One of the suspects, the 20-year-old, is a Salvadoran national who is living here illegally.

So what’s a 20-year-old man, illegal alien, doing enrolled in a public high school, paid for by the tax dollars obviously? Maryland law requires that all residents up to the age of 21 get free public education for high school, including illegal aliens. If you are a Maryland resident, maybe just think about calling your representative, ask why your tax dollars are going towards this? That would be a good idea.

And my next guest says Montgomery County has become a hotbed of illegal alien crime, and now it’s bleeding into his county, Frederick County. Joining me now is Chuck Jenkins, sheriff of Frederick County, Maryland. Sheriff, what’s your message tonight to the people watching all of this? They’re thinking, oh, this is just one county, or two counties.

SHERIFF CHUCK JENKINS: Hi, Laura. You know what, this has been affecting Frederick County for years. Prior to them even declaring century status, we were seeing the criminal element, the criminal illegal aliens come up from Montgomery and P.G. counties, bleed into Frederick County. We’ve been dealing with crime.

INGRAHAM: I just want to put this up on the screen so people understand the scope of what we’re talking about. There are 10 illegals that were arrested for sexual assault from July to November of 2019. Here are their names. And this is during this span, this is when the Montgomery County executive Mark Elrich signed that executive order barring ICE agents from actually going into the court houses to arrest these people. And meanwhile we’ve got the laundry list of individuals raping, in many cases, young minors.

JENKINS: Absolutely. We’ve seen gang crime. We’ve seen machete killings in Frederick County. We have seen rape and sexual assault.

INGRAHAM: How long have you been in law enforcement?

JENKINS: I’ve been 30 years in Frederick County.

INGRAHAM: Let’s go back 30 years because that’s about the time I moved to this area. I can’t believe I’m saying that. That’s how long I’ve been here. That’ about the time I moved here, 1987, pretty much right after college. It was a different place.

JENKINS: It was a different world up there, then, absolutely. Frederick County is still largely rural county, population 250,000 people, but we never saw the problems with the gang crime, the criminal element that has bled over from the hotbeds of illegal aliens in P.G. and Montgomery County.

INGRAHAM: So the people Frederick County, the law abiding taxpayers who work hard and try to send their kids to public schools, why are they electing these people? Why are people getting elected in the state house?

JENKINS: I don’t understand that. As a matter of fact, I was in Annapolis today fighting century state bills that may come into play this year. It’s lunacy. It’s absolute lunacy. Listen —

INGRAHAM: What do you say to the average American watching in middle America tonight, watching this and feeling helpless? They feel helpless like they can’t — if they are living in a blue county, they feel helpless.

JENKINS: They do. They need to put pressure on their elected officials, their legislators, their congressmen, their local sheriffs and chiefs of police. In Frederick County, we got a little bit different up there. We work with ICE, we cooperate with ICE. We’re a 287-G county.

INGRAHAM: You are helping them.

JENKINS: We arrest, we detain, and we deport criminal aliens, absolutely. Over 12 years we have deported 1,563, including 110 criminal gang members. Our streets are fairly safe.

INGRAHAM: Have you ever seen machete killings, MS-13 a few years ago?

JENKINS: Never heard of them 30 years ago, ever.

INGRAHAM: How about 20 years ago?

JENKINS: Not even 20. I’d say in the past 10 to 12 years we’ve really seen the influx of this violence. And Laura, remember this, the populations that are coming to this country are from the most violent countries on the face the planet.

INGRAHAM: The best and the brightest, we are getting the best and the brightest. Sheriff, thank you for what you’re doing. Stay safe and thank you.

Nigerian Criminal Is Noted by Tucker Carlson as Yet Another Montgomery County Sanctuary Beneficiary https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2019/09/11/nigerian-criminal-is-noted-by-tucker-carlson-as-yet-another-montgomery-county-sanctuary-beneficiary/ Wed, 11 Sep 2019 20:37:11 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=18133 Montgomery County Maryland is a terrible place to live if you care about public safety. The top political leader there prefers to shelter violent illegal aliens instead of protecting the law-abiding citizens.

County Executive Marc Elrich has set the tone for an extreme sanctuary policy, wrongly stating that “County police and our Correction and Rehabilitation departments are not authorized to detain someone based on an ICE detainer.” As a result, dangerous foreigners have been released onto local streets rather than deported, and they have committed violent crimes with rape being a favorite.

For more details, see my earlier report, Maryland Sanctuary County Becomes a Crime Zone.

At that time, September 4, all the perps were hispanic, as seen in the mugshots below:

Now Montgomery County criminals have become more diverse with the addition of a Nigerian:

As it happens, concerned citizens plan an community rally on Friday, September 13 in Rockville Maryland to protest the lawlessness. Michelle Malkin and Larry O’Connor are scheduled to appear.

Here’s Tucker with a sanctuary crime update:

TUCKER CARLSON: Illegal immigration in the Montgomery County, Maryland, continues unabated. In fact, authorities there are helping it, but the toll is rising dramatically. Oluwakayode Adebusuyi is an illegal immigrant from Nigeria. According to county authorities, Adebusuyi recently raped an intoxicated woman inside her car. That would make him the eighth illegal alien charged with a sex offense in Montgomery County in the last six weeks, since July 25th.

Amazingly, this man now charged with a sex crime has stayed in the United States, despite past very serious run-ins with the law — not minor stuff, major stuff. For example, in August 2018, this man was charged with second degree assault, false imprisonment and a fourth-degree sex offense.

But somehow prosecutors dropped those charges. He was not deported. He stayed in America despite being here illegally. And these new charges are the results of that. Ken Cuccinelli is acting Director of U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, and he joins us tonight. Mr. Cuccinelli, thanks very much for joining us.

KEN CUCCINELLI: Good to be with you, Tucker.

CARLSON: So we’ve been following horrified as the toll of sex offenses in Montgomery County, Maryland, has risen by illegal aliens. Clearly, the county officials there are doing nothing about it. They’re blaming neo-Nazis for complaining about it, et cetera. I mean, they’re completely unwilling to protect their own citizens. Can the federal government do anything to protect them?

CUCCINELLI: Well, of course, ICE even though Montgomery County won’t fully cooperate with ICE, ICE still does its job of removals when criminals come to their attention. You noted this most recent illegal who was charged with sexual assault rape, most recently had previously been identified to law enforcement, well, they didn’t let ICE know last summer when they had this person in their custody. And they undoubtedly knew he was illegal, and yet did not notify federal officials.

And so when they don’t know that a criminal is present, ICE doesn’t know to even try to pick them up. So and of course, sadly, enough, Montgomery County is not alone in this, their neighbor, PG County here bordering Washington, D.C. and we’ve all been reading it in the last few days about North Carolina and the victims down there are almost 500 of these folks released without giving ICE notice. And these are people that no American would want to keep in this country.

And oddly enough, it is many of these folks on the left who say, “Oh, we want to get rid of the criminal aliens,” but they’re the very same ones who enact these sanctuary policies that in fact harbor these exact illegals who are committing other crimes in the communities in this country.

CARLSON: What a tragedy this is.

CUCCINELLI: It is a tragedy.

CARLSON: Again, is there anything that the feds can do? I mean Montgomery County, Maryland, all of these jurisdictions are in defiance, it seems to me, of federal law. Is there anything that can be done about it?

CUCCINELLI: Well, they’re certainly not cooperating with federal law, and I can tell you, as a former attorney general, that it is a long, really nonpartisan history of law enforcement of cooperating across levels — federal, state and local law enforcement. This is a very recent phenomena, Tucker, where people see political advantage to playing games with law enforcement and public safety on the left, and it is having tragic, tragic consequences for these communities.

CARLSON: Yes. It’s certainly is. Director Cuccinelli, thanks so much for joining us tonight. I appreciate it.

Being a sanctuary for illegal aliens does have a magnetic effect.

Below, seven unlawful foreigners have been arrested for rape in the Maryland county since July 25 as of September 1.

What’s surprising is how openly stubborn the top sanctuary official in the county is — usually the alien defenders scuttle away when anyone asks questions about public safety. But County Executive Marc Elrich has had an interesting assortment of responses, such as wrongly claiming that federal officers need judicial warrants to seize aliens upon their release from county jails for deportation. He told radio host Vincent Coglianese that illegal immigration is not a problem in his county despite the violent crimes, mentioned in the interview linked below.

Andrew Arthur, a one-time immigration judge, wrote recently about the extreme nature of Montgomery County’s sanctuary and the degree to which it takes the side of lawbreaking foreigners in an article titled, Five Rape Arrests Underscore the Hypocrisy of Sanctuary Policies.

During an August 28 interview with Tucker Carlson, Arthur remarked, “Montgomery County probably has one of the strongest anti-ICE policies that I can think of. You won’t allow ICE officials into your jail to talk to criminal aliens. It’s ridiculous.”

It’s odd how this fellow Elrich is all over the place with his reasons for supporting sanctuary — it’s not like he believes strongly in a borderless planet, as some do. One might suspect that he is being rewarded for his foreigner-friendly position — that’s a psychological observation.

Here’s a discussion between Tucker Carlson and Vincent Coglianese, both of whom have been following the Montgomery County situation closely.

TUCKER CARLSON: Emilio Carrasco-Hernandez is an illegal arrival from the country of Honduras. According to police, he sexually assaulted his 15-year-old stepdaughter. Carrasco-Hernandez is the seventh illegal immigrant arrested for a sex crime in Montgomery County, just since July 25th.

Vince Coglianese has followed these stories closer than maybe anyone else in the region. He is a D.C. radio host with WMAL Radio and he joins us tonight. Vince, thanks a lot for coming on.

VINCE COGLIANESE: Thank you, Tucker.

CARLSON: So why are we just learning about this now? Is there some reason that seven of these stories have come to light in such a short time?

COGLIANESE: This is the question and it’s an important one. Carrasco-Hernandez, by the way, already deported from the United States in 2017, he made his way back into the country, thanks to our porous border policies.

So he does this and now he has raped a 15-year-old girl, and we talk about seven as the number you’ve brought up since July 25th. That’s the number of people who have been arrested on rape or sexual abuse charges. The majority of these cases — sexual rape or abuse of a minor — these are children who are being hurt in almost all of these cases.

The reason why we’re all of a sudden finding out about this concentration of stories is not that this is a new phenomenon. It’s that rank and file police officers and prosecutors in Montgomery County are furious at their own leadership for allowing this problem to continue to fester as long as it has.

These stories haven’t been public before because they’ve been trying to deal with them. But now they’re done dealing with them. Montgomery County leadership led by Marc Elrich, who is the county executive, he is the top elected official in the county, have made it so that Montgomery County, Maryland specifically, is a place where illegal immigration is protected at all costs, even at the expense of the community.

And now cops and prosecutors are furious, and they’re taking matters into their own hands. They want these stories out there.

CARLSON: God bless them for doing that. Because by publicizing these crimes, really that’s the only recourse I think that people have. Marc Elrich, the county executive who maybe more than any other person made this possible has sat for an interview with you.

COGLIANESE: Yes.

CARLSON: What was his explanation for this?

COGLIANESE: He doesn’t have explanations. He has — he blames a lot. He points fingers at the Federal government for allowing illegal immigrants to be in the area. He says that illegal immigration shouldn’t even be considered a problem.

And when I posed questions to him about all of this, he responded to me, “Well, what do you think we should do? Deport all illegal immigrants?” And my response to him was really simple, if you don’t like the laws of this country, work to change them, but in the meantime, enforce them and that’s not what they’re doing in Montgomery County.

And in fact, in late July, he passed an executive order codifying — well, he was already heading in this direction in that county — saying, if you’re a county official, you are not allowed to inquire about immigration status. You are not allowed to allow federal agents into jails in Montgomery County.

The feds have to stand outside and catch these guys, when they’re coming out of the jail. Actually, it makes it a more unsafe environment to have this, to have somebody ejected into the public and then caught by the feds, rather than a peaceful prisoner transfer.

The feds have probable cause to make these arrests. They’re issuing detainers because they’ve already done the research into establishing this is somebody we believe to be illegally in the country.

Montgomery County is saying, “We’re not going to work with you.” I’ll tell you, we have one story that I was so stunned by. I was talking to one source that said inside of these jails, they’ve gotten calls from Feds who say, “That guy is MS-13, do not release him.” And then they release them.

They don’t have an address on file and he looks at these jailers in the face, he will smile and then walk right out the door.

CARLSON: Meanwhile, children are raped. Even a left wing county like Montgomery County, you have to think there are people — Democrats — who think this is too much.

COGLIANESE: Yes, and they do.

CARLSON: I’m glad. Vince Coglianese, great to see you tonight.
