Many plan on grabbing a job that should go to a US citizen, more the 10 million of whom remain unemployed after a year of the stubborn Wuhan pandemic. The average education of Central American aliens is quite low, with 58 percent of Northern Triangle residents having less than a high school education, according to a recent Peter Navarro report. Those aliens will look for unskilled jobs with the promise to work cheaper than Americans — perhaps in restaurant kitchens.

But technology has been designing a different future for dealing with the pandemic and other labor shortages — robots. Here’s a robot waiter that delivers the chow with no human contact which solves the social distance issue:

In another example, a burger-joint robot is sold as a machine that costs $3/hour and doesn’t call in sick:

The technology keeps expanding. Restaurant kitchens will be getting a makeover that will substantially reduce the need for human workers — and that includes even ultra-cheap illegal aliens eager to please.

A recent industry article observed that “Soon, robots could be integrated into every step of the restaurant supply chain, from the ingredients’ production until the meal arrives at the table”:

New Robots Emerge To Automate Every Stage Of Restaurant Operations, Pymnts.com, February 24, 2021

As the automation of food service progresses, new robots are emerging to tackle a wider range of kitchen tasks. Previously, we saw robots take on salads, bowls and burgers. Now, two new restaurants in Illinois created by Nala Robotics will use automated kitchens to create foods from all around the world, according to Restaurant Hospitality. Cuisines ranging from Malaysian to Mexican to Cajun will be on the menu, with around one hundred meals available to order. The company’s goal is to grow the restaurant through franchising.

The restaurant’s repertoire can increase in just the time it takes to enter a new recipe into the database. Nala Robotics President and Co-founder Ajay Sunkara told Restaurant Hospitality, “if there is a burger joint in New York that has a great following and wants to expand, we can upload that recipe in Naperville, and customers will get the exact same burger.”

While the midwest is getting robot-made cuisine from all around the world, the West Coast is getting its own robot restaurant specializing in Chinese food. The U-Fry Chinese Café, opening this month, will feature foods from five different parts of China prepared by an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled kitchen, reports The Business Journal. The restaurant’s creator, Tony Pan, has not revealed any specifics about the robots or the software he is using to create this kitchen. (Continues)

On one side was the traditional sob story approach toward illegal aliens, that they are suffering world citizens who should be rescued by too-rich, too-white America.

The newer, more controversial viewpoint is that only the victims or actual tribal members should be allowed to speak because non-diverse people are taking up too much space in the marketplace of ideas and opinions.

The book in question is American Dirt: A Novel, written by Jeanine Cummins, “who has a Puerto Rican grandmother,” the New York Times observes — which clearly is not sufficient for some people.

The Times published a front-page photo of the author, a person “who identifies as white and Latina.”

On Monday, the Los Angeles Times included a front-page story about the fracas, ‘American Dirt’ was supposed to be a publishing triumph. What went wrong?, noting the “angry charges of cultural appropriation, stereotyping, insensitivity, and even racism against author Jeanine Cummins.” So the mainstream media must think that Immigration Diversity is too important to have disagreements.

One complaint was about barbwire floral arrangements at a book promotion dinner because it would disrespect illegal alien invaders, or something.

The New York Times article explained how complicated it can be for the publishing business to accommodate diversity ideology — including having “sensitivity readers” on staff to catch any politically incorrect bits that might upset someone, somewhere.

As ‘American Dirt’ Racks Up Sales, Its Author Becomes the Story, New York Times, January 25, 2020

“American Dirt” seemed poised to become one of this year’s biggest, buzziest books.

When it came up for auction in 2018, the novel — about a desperate Mexican mother and son who flee for the United States border after a drug cartel massacres their family — set off a bidding war and sold to a publisher for seven figures. It drew rapturous endorsements from novelists like Stephen King and Sandra Cisneros, and got glowing advance reviews from industry publications that hailed the book as propulsive and heart-wrenching.

The author, Jeanine Cummins, has said she hoped the novel would drive discussions about immigration policy, and open “a back door into a bigger conversation about who we want to be as a country.” Since then, “American Dirt” has certainly ignited a vigorous conversation — but hardly the one the author and publisher intended.

Even before the book hit shelves this past week, a growing chorus of online critics was challenging the hoopla, accusing Ms. Cummins, who identifies as white and Latina, of having exploited the experience of migrants and repackaging it as opportunistic “trauma porn” for a predominantly white publishing industry.

Criticism intensified on Tuesday, after Oprah Winfrey anointed the novel as her next book club pick, in a splashy joint appearance on “CBS This Morning” with the author, whom Ms. Winfrey said she hoped to interview near the border for her book club program.

It was an extraordinary convergence of forces: Industry hype meets charges of cultural appropriation meets one of the most combustible political issues in America today, immigration.

And that was before a photograph from a lavish book promotion dinner last spring, showing a faux-barbed-wire floral decoration, began circulating on Twitter, where it was vilified as “border chic.” So was a resurfaced tweet from last fall in which Ms. Cummins cheered a fan’s manicure inspired by her book’s cover, complete with more barbed wire.

The controversy lands at a moment when debates about race and representation are front and center across the cultural and political landscape, from the Academy Awards, which faces yet another #OscarsSoWhite outcry, to the National Football League, where the number of minority head coaches is falling, to the Democratic presidential primary, where the most diverse field of candidates in history has narrowed to a nearly all-white group.

It also falls right into the roiling argument over art and cultural appropriation — how the stories of marginalized people should be told and who should be given the platforms to tell them. Social media has elevated more voices, but also brought greater scrutiny to the decisions of businesses and tastemakers like Ms. Winfrey who are trying to build broader audiences.

Opinions are hardly monolithic. When the white painter Dana Schutz drew fire for “Open Casket,” a painting of Emmett Till included in the 2018 Whitney Biennial, some black artists denounced her for exploiting black pain, demanding the work be removed or even destroyed. Others defended the artist’s right to take on any subject.

The literary world has been wrestling with the same questions, particularly in the young adult sector, where authors and publishers now routinely rely on sensitivity readers to help defend against potential racial and cultural blind spots. (Continues)

Why do Democrats think releasing dangerous prisoners was a good idea?? Do criminals have a political lobby these days?

The law is new, but the carnage is accumulating fast. Tucker Carlson’s brief segment noted several examples, one of which was an illegal alien who was released from jail after allegedly killing a mother of three. Breitbart News had details which bear consideration because they are so off the charts:

New York Jailbreak: Illegal Alien Freed After Allegedly Killing Mother of Three on Christmas Eve, Breitbart.com, by John Binder, December 27, 2019

A New York state law that allows accused criminals to be freed from prison the same day they are arrested for violent crimes has freed an illegal alien accused of killing a mother of three on Christmas Eve.

Jorge Flores-Villalba, a 27-year-old illegal alien, according to Assemblyman Colin Schmitt, was arrested after he allegedly admitted to hitting and killing mother of three Marie “Rosie” Osai, who was a legal immigrant from Haiti, in a Christmas Eve crash on Long Island, New York.

“I was driving and I did strike a person,” Flores-Villalba allegedly told law enforcement officials. “I didn’t call the police. I was afraid because I don’t have a license.”

After being charged with felony fleeing the scene of a deadly accident, Flores-Villalba was arraigned and then freed without bail on Christmas day — less than 24 hours after Osai was allegedly killed. (Continues)

For more examples, see Daniel Horowitz’ article in Conservative Review: New York’s crime laws imploding: 7 insane prison release stories.

Here’s Tucker’s take:

TUCKER CARLSON: Well, a massive change in New York this year that very few anticipated, bail laws changed. Cash bail has been abolished even for several felony crimes, and not surprisingly, criminals are taking advantage. Case in point.

A man called Gerod Woodbury was arrested last week and charged with robbing four banks since the end of the year. But it turned out to be his lucky day. Thanks to new bail laws, Woodbury was out the next day, no bail.

According to police — and this is the part you could have guessed — within a day he had robbed another bank. That would be his fifth bank robbery in just two weeks.

Nicole Malliotakis is a Republican candidate for the Congress of the United States. She’s also a New York State Assemblywoman and former candidate for the Mayor of New York City. She joins us tonight.

Nicole, you’ve joined us a lot to sort of chronicle the decline of the city and the state of New York. This seems like a quantum leap in the wrong direction.

NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS, (R-NY): Look, this is an overhaul that no state in America has seen and as a matter of fact, you named just one incident but there are so many more that we can talk about.

On Christmas Eve, you saw an illegal immigrant who was driving unlicensed who killed a mother of three, and he left the scene. He was caught and they released them back into the street.

We had a number of people assaulted including a police officer, Orthodox Jewish women who were assaulted in an admitted hate crime. We saw a woman in the streets of New York City punched — had her teeth punched out, all these individuals were released, and two of the three of them were rearrested within the same week.

This is what’s happening in the State of New York under a very bad law that needs to be fixed and it needs to be fixed immediately. And we’re here in Albany, and we’re pushing for that — those changes.

And you know, the governor has not really given us a straight answer. He is saying that there’s something wrong with it. But he doesn’t want to fix it and needs to be fixed immediately to consider, first of all, someone’s criminal history, to consider their danger to society, to restore judicial discretion, to protect witnesses, which this bill actually makes you release witness information to defendant within 15 days of the arrest.

All these things need to be addressed, and people need to go to my petition and sign now at nicoleforny.com.

CARLSON: I guess I’m a little bit confused here. I mean, who’s the constituency for this? Is it bank robbers? Is it people punch who women in the face and knock their teeth out? I mean, are they the voters that Cuomo is worried about? I mean, who is for this?

MALLIOTAKIS: Well, you know, interestingly enough, you have the Democrats from all levels of government, the city, Mayor de Blasio, who wants to see Rikers Island closed is looking to release people from our jails.

We have people in the Federal level like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, my opponent for Congress; Max Rose, both came out and supported this and supported the closure of Rikers Island and this is all part of the problem. People are afraid. . .

CARLSON: Wait. Let me stop you there. Max Rose, the purported moderate member of Congress is in favor of this?

MALLIOTAKIS: You know, and he is not a moderate and I think people are learning that right away. But look, he said he supported the bail reform that Cuomo proposed. He also supports the closure of Rikers Island, and he is joining AOC and the squad and Nancy Pelosi and voting with them regularly.

But besides that, the thing here is that the people of New York know it’s wrong. The Democrats know it’s wrong. The governor is saying that something needs to be done and yet we’re here now, second week in session, and nobody has done anything to address it, and it’s been us, the Republicans that are putting forward legislation for fixes.

And I’ve got to tell you, if it doesn’t get fixed, there’s going to be blood on Governor Cuomo hands.

CARLSON: Yes. And people are just going to continue to leave the state, of course, because it’s like, why would you live there? Nicole, thanks so much for joining us.

The idea that more foreign workers would be “modernization” on the farm is particularly ironic, since agricultural automation technology has been advancing rapidly for years: for example, John Deere developed GPS for its tractors in 1997 and has continued the improvement of autonomous farm equipment that is piloted by computers rather than drivers.

Numerous farmers prefer the dependability of farm machines to the problems finding human temporary workers. According to a 2017 survey of 762 farmers conducted by the California Farm Bureau Federation, 33 percent said they were turning to mechanization to assure the work gets done. Certainly when ag robots become even less expensive, many more farmers will gladly switch to machines.

Below, a Magnum autonomous tractor with a planting attachment but no human driver is another indication that the future of farming is automated.

Farm robots are also easier to develop than factory models because there are no safety concerns like those where humans work near the machines.

If anything, the importation of foreign farm labor should be ended entirely because smart machines can do the cultivation and harvesting much more efficiently than humans. And why should the government legalize many thousands who will be unemployable in a few years?

NumbersUSA has more details of the proposed bill here, and Tucker Carlson presented a thorough rundown on Friday:

TUCKER CARLSON: Bipartisan consensus in Washington has been that America ought to give amnesty to all illegal aliens within our borders, no matter how many there are. The leadership of both parties believes this.

The problem is that voters definitely don’t believe it: they strongly disagree and have for decades. They’ve said so in polling consistently. But instead of paying attention to what the public wants, as usual, the parties ignore it and instead work together to do what they want by stealth.

Their latest gambit is called HR5038, a bill called the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2019. As usual, the name is Orwellian. The bill does not modernize America’s agricultural workforce, in fact, just the opposite — HR5038 is designed to keep our farming practices primitive and dependent upon low-wage manual labor.

The bill, which remarkably has a total of 24 Republican co-sponsors, would give amnesty to illegal immigrant farm workers in the United States, pretty much all of them. Even illegal aliens who’ve been convicted of crimes would be eligible for permanent residency here and eventually citizenship. Beneficiaries would not have to pay any back taxes that qualify even if they skipped court hearings or snuck back into the US after being deported.

Don’t you try something like that as a US citizen: Congress will have no mercy on you, but for foreign nationals — no problem.

How many foreign nationals would benefit from this act if it became law? Well in point of fact, nobody knows. The pro amnesty group Farmworker Justice estimates that at least 1.2 million illegal immigrants would be eligible — but if history is any guide, and it is — the actual number would be far far higher and that’s assuming the bill would restrict an amnesty to actual farm workers. Good luck with that.

HR5038 imposes very low document standards. Those applying for amnesty can submit all kinds of different documents. There’s no penalty for fraud — in other words there’d be no reason not to submit a bogus application. Needless to say, many people would just as they did thirty years ago during the Ronald Reagan amnesty.

That’s supposedly limited farm worker amnesty drew hundreds of thousands of fraudulent applications and here’s the key: most of them were approved anyway. in some cases even illegal immigrants who arrived in this country after amnesty became law were allowed to benefit from the amnesty. Think about that for a minute — it was a joke.

Now they want to do it again, but on a much larger scale. So to sum up — the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2019 would reward law breaking, exacerbate the border crisis and undermine the already stalled wages of American blue-collar workers.

it’s pretty much the mirror image the exact opposite of what Donald Trump ran on just three years ago, and yet members of Congress like Elise Stefanik, Tom Cole, Fred Upton and more than twenty other Republicans are now fighting to make it law.

Why is that? You’ve got to wonder — maybe they’re not bright enough to know what’s in the bill. Maybe there’s some other motive. Maybe someone should ask them.

The New York Times has set up a Go Fund Me website to collect funds for various victims of circumstance who have life stories the scribblers find appealing. The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund aims to raise $6 million, so it’s not small project.

One of the newspaper’s lucky recipients is an illegal alien from Honduras, Miguel Angel Guity Mejia, whose goal is to mooch a college education — and readers are urged to donate to that cause.

Mejia’s goal for his future degree is to become a sports journalist and work for Univision or Telemundo — just what America needs, another soccer reporter. Does a more socially useless occupation exist?

Meanwhile, some Americans are not doing well even in the improved economy, and less globalist charities concentrate on their needs.

Naturally, the Times’ explanatory article is even more breathless and emotional than standard sob stories from the liberal press.

After a Treacherous Trip From Honduras, Aiming for an Education, New York Times, November 25, 2019

After a harrowing journey to reach New York, Miguel Angel Guity Mejia is hoping to resume his college studies and establish a secure future.

When Miguel Angel Guity Mejia was 16, he packed his Bible, a pair of shoes and some clothes in a knapsack. In the dead of night, he left home without saying goodbye to his family. They had no idea he was fleeing Corozal, the coastal village in Honduras where he grew up.

He stayed in a hotel with three friends for about a week, until the border with Guatemala was clear of immigration authorities. Then they set out for the United States, eager to escape the reach of gang members who were hanging around soccer fields and basketball courts, trying to recruit youngsters like him.

“I was getting scared,” he recalled this month, four years after his journey began.

For more than two weeks, he and his friends walked, hitchhiked, took buses and hid between train cars. When they arrived at the border between the United States and Mexico, they had to swim across a river. “That was the moment that changed my life forever,” Mr. Mejia said.

Once they reached the middle of the river, the current was so strong and the water so deep that one of Mr. Mejia’s friends started drowning. Mr. Mejia tried pulling him up by his shirt, but to no avail. He also started drowning. “God, please,” he recalled thinking. “Please save me.” Suddenly, they reached a riffle and managed to cross to the other side.

The ordeal lasted minutes, Mr. Mejia said, but it felt like a lifetime.

They eventually approached Border Patrol agents, and Mr. Mejia was placed in a shelter run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement in Texas for about four months until he moved to New York to stay with his father and stepmother.

Before then, Mr. Mejia had almost no relationship with his father, who had left the family for the United States when Mr. Mejia was an infant and eventually settled in the Bronx. About seven years ago, Mr. Mejia’s father called him unexpectedly, and Mr. Mejia memorized the phone number. When he arrived in Mexico, he reached out to his father for help.

In the Bronx, Mr. Mejia, now 20, enrolled in high school and joined the school’s soccer team (he is a die-hard Real Madrid fan) in his junior year. While he was grateful to have left Honduras, which has one of the world’s highest murder rates and where more than half the population lives in poverty, according to the Central Intelligence Agency, the adjustment was challenging. His father went from being a stranger to his caregiver, and Mr. Mejia was homesick.

In the summer of 2016, he was so down that he considered returning to Honduras. Then he joined another soccer team, at a church in East Harlem, and started attending services there. It was a transformative experience, he said, and it gave him a sense of inner peace. The resentment he had felt toward his father for leaving him when he was a baby eased, and he began to appreciate how hard his father had worked to provide for his family.

As he became more comfortable in the United States, Mr. Mejia applied for an immigration designation that would make him eligible to seek a green card. He had help from Terra Firma, a project of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, one of the seven organizations supported by The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund. Terra Firma offers medical and legal services to unaccompanied immigrant children. Mr. Mejia’s application is still pending.

Mr. Mejia has since graduated from high school. Because of his immigration status, he is not eligible for many financial aid opportunities to attend college. After receiving a $1,000 scholarship through his high school, he enrolled at Bronx Community College in August with plans to major in media studies. The $600 that he had saved from a summer job at a carpet factory in Brooklyn ran out quickly, though, and last month, Mr. Mejia dropped out. (Continues)

America must look totally irresistible from outside when even killers re-enter when they may face serious repercussions if re-arrested.

A recent reminder was the return of Guatemalan Olga Marina Franco del Cid who had been imprisoned for killing four Minnesota children a decade ago.

Guatemalan who killed 4 in 2008 Cottonwood, Minn., bus crash arrested, Star Tribune, November 28, 2019

Sentenced for killing four kids in a school bus crash, she was found living here illegally and jailed by ICE.

A Guatemalan woman who was deported after serving eight years in prison on felony charges stemming from a 2008 fatal crash with a school bus in Cottonwood, Minn., was arrested Tuesday by immigration authorities for illegally re-entering the country.

Olga Marina Franco del Cid, 35, was arrested at her residence in Inver Grove Heights after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers got a tip that she had returned to Minnesota.

Franco del Cid was convicted in October 2008 of four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and 17 counts of criminal vehicular operation, giving a false name to police, failing to stop at the entrance to a thruway, and driving without a valid license. Four students died in the February 2008 crash.

The case drew nationwide attention at the time from people focused on the illegal immigration debate.

Responders at the scene found Franco del Cid behind the steering wheel, her right foot wedged under a crumpled dashboard near the accelerator. Her attorneys argued that her boyfriend was the one driving the van and fled because he didn’t want to be deported to Mexico. They argued that he was thrown out of the van on impact, and Franco del Cid was thrown into the driver’s seat. (Continues)

The case sounded familiar — four Minnesota school kids killed by an illegal alien, but the name of the perp was different and the victims’ names were absent in the current news reports from what I remembered. Here’s my blog about it at the time:

Four Minnesota School Children Killed by Illegal Alien, Vdare.com, February 22, 2008

The terrible bus crash that killed four school kids and injured over a dozen others earlier this week was the fault of an unlicensed illegal alien, Alianiss Nunez Morales. She was driving a van that ran through a stop sign and smashed into the bus. [. . .]

Shown below are the four children killed (clockwise from top left) Hunter Javens, 9, and his brother Jesse Javens, 13, both of Cottonwood; Emilee Olson, 9, of Cottonwood; and Reed Stevens, 12, of Marshall, MN.

It took a bit of Google snooping, but yes, Olga Franco del Cid is also Alianiss Nunez Morales, the convicted killer of four American children.

Perhaps I’m picky, but the news story about her marriage a little over a year after the kids’ deaths was too cheerful even for the sicko conventional press:

Just married: Olga Franco, still in prison for Cottonwood bus crash that killed 4 children, TwinCities.com, July 14, 2009

Jerome Harvieux watched the news last year about a school bus crash in Cottonwood, Minn.

For months, the St. Paul man followed media reports about the four children who died and about Olga Franco, the illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was charged with their deaths.

Harvieux believed Franco was being unfairly targeted — a scapegoat because she was undocumented. [. . .]

Franco, 25, is serving a 12 1/2-year sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Shakopee after being convicted for the Feb. 19, 2008, crash that killed Hunter Javens, 9; his 13-year-old brother, Jesse Javens; Emilee Olson, 9; and Reed Stevens, 12.

So here is love and marriage among the diversity-loving liberal set, where an illegal alien killing four kids is no problema.

Hopefully the Guatemalan criminal will get a long sentence for her repeat illegal entry — perhaps 20 years in federal prison as was mentioned in one report.

The front-page photo featured a lone toddler wandering a cruel Mexican street — say, shouldn’t that child have a parent nearby? Or do the family values of diverse foreigners not extend to minding the kiddies?

After noting the “sick or despondent” children in the camp of 1600 asylum seekers, the Post blamed the Trump administration’s policies for the suffering.

For some reason, millions in the Third World regard the United States as their personal rescue service, despite America’s primary responsibility to its own citizens. And if the whole family gaggle can’t get accepted in the US, then “concerned” moms send the kids over the border alone — as if raising abandoned foreign children is the American taxpayers’ job.

Fortunately, some help is on the way. As Breitbart reported a few days ago (U.S. Creates Sanctuaries for Migrants in Latin American Countries):

A new regulation will allow U.S. border officers to send asylum seekers to several Latin American countries instead of being released into the United States.

Similarly, the Associated Press wrote: Tougher US asylum policy follows in Europe’s footsteps. No surprise there — Europe has been inundated also. The First World cannot rescue the billions of poor Third Worlders through squishy immigration.

The deal isn’t exactly new news, since President Trump has been working out arrangements with a few Latin American countries including Mexico to accept some of their region’s wanna-be illegal aliens to the United States.

It would be better to end the asylum/refugee scam altogether, since it helps only a tiny fraction of poor people in the Third World. If there were no possibility of rescue in the First World, then millions would demand reform in their home nations which could lead to a better outcome for more people.

But that’s not the political choice being made. In fact, the point of the Post article is that foreign parents are dumping their sick children onto the US taxpayer for expensive healthcare. Many citizens would prefer to see down-on-their-luck Americans get better treatment.

It’s interesting that the most common health problems named were respiratory illnesses — perhaps due to being dragged from Central America to the US border?

In squalid Mexico tent city, asylum seekers are growing so desperate they’re sending their children over the border alone, By Kevin Sieff, Washington Post, November 22, 2019

MATAMOROS, Mexico — In the middle of the largest refugee camp on the U.S. border — close enough to Texas that migrants can see an American flag hovering across the Rio Grande — Marili’s children had fallen ill.

Josue was 5. Madeline was 3. The small family was huddled together in a nylon camping tent with two blankets last week when the temperature sank to 37 degrees. The children started coughing, Marili said. Then their fingers and toes turned bright red. The camp’s doctor had begun to see cases of frostbite.

Like most of the roughly 1,600 asylum seekers at the informal camp, Marili and her children had crossed the border into the United States this summer only to be sent back to Mexico to await their asylum cases — part of a year-old U.S. policy called the Migrant Protection Protocols.

In recent weeks, dozens of parents have watched as their children, sleeping outside in the cold, have become sick or despondent. Many decided to get them help the only way they knew how — sending them across the border alone. As Josue and Madeline grew sicker, it was Marili’s turn to make a decision.

These cases illustrate the the Trump administration’s policy and suggest the United States, Mexico and the United Nations were unprepared to handle many of the unforeseen consequences.

Marili, fleeing gang violence in Honduras, knew that unaccompanied children were admitted into the United States without enduring the MPP bureaucracy and the months-long wait. The 29-year-old mother — who, like others here, asked not to be identified by her last name, for fear it could affect her asylum case — believed that returning home would be suicide. So she bundled up her children in all of their donated winter clothes and scrawled a letter to U.S. immigration officials on a torn piece of paper.

“My children are very sick and exposed to many risks in Mexico,” she wrote. “I don’t have any other way to get them to safety.”

She pressed the letter into Josue’s hand, she said, and pointed the children to three U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in the middle of the Gateway International Bridge, the span across the Rio Grande that connects Matamoros to Brownsville, Tex.

“Josue told me, ‘Please don’t send us,’ ” Marili said, crying at the memory. “But as a mother, I knew it was the best decision for them.”

Then she sprinted to the bottom of the bridge and watched through the fence as her children turned themselves in, weeping and wondering when she would see them again, hoping they would find their way to her husband. He had entered the United States and applied for asylum before MPP was implemented. He was allowed to stay. [. . .]

Global Response Management, the Florida-based nonprofit that runs the small medical clinic under the blue tarp, saw a surge in patients, most of them children. The most common cases were respiratory illnesses, said Megan Algeo, the doctor on call at the time. In one case, Algeo said, she persuaded U.S. immigration agents to admit a child for emergency care.

But over time, the temporary hang out turned into a green card. In 2013, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) introduced the “U Visa Reform Act of 2013,” H.R. 463, but it didn’t go anywhere.

For background, see my 2007 article, Victim Visas—How America Stupidly Rewards Misfortune and Fraud.

Naturally, that sort of law is a serious fraud magnet, such as reported here in a 2013 case where an illegal alien in California arranged to have a fake robbery against her so she could remain in the US as a privileged crime victim.

On Friday, Tucker Carlson noted a rather more grandiose U Visa charade, involving 10 aliens at Bob’s Burgers n’ Teriyakis in SeaTac, Washington.

The good news is the fraud was figured out pretty quickly; the bad news is that Washington is a sanctuary state, so the aliens won’t be deported.

TUCKER CARLSON: Well, it’s a story so nuts and unlikely, it can only happen in something like America’s immigration system where crazy things do happen quite a bit.

According to the Sheriff’s Office in King County, Washington — that’s where Seattle is — a group of about 10 immigrants carried out an elaborate fake burglary against themselves, and why did they do that? But one of the many visas that we offer to foreigners is called a non-immigrant visa. It allows a foreigner who was a victim of a crime in the United States to stay in this country for the sake of assisting authorities in solving the crime.

Now, since this crime was fake, of course, the hope was that the case would never be closed and they could stay in this country long term, maybe even forever.

Jason Rantz has been following the story. He’s a Seattle area radio show host and he joins us tonight. So Jason, did I describe that correctly? I mean, you know, it’s almost like out of a movie, this story.

JASON RANTZ: It’s insane and obviously this is a crime that freaked out a whole bunch of people. It happened in SeaTac, it’s right outside of Seattle. We don’t normally see these kinds of robberies, where in this case it was alleged that two men in masks, one with a handgun went into Bob’s Burgers and Teriyaki. It’s this restaurant. They held people up, they tied people up. They sexually assaulted two of the female victims before getting away.

And the story was that some customer wandered in and noticed that this had happened and called 911, and then obviously King County Sheriff’s Deputies took this incredibly seriously. They had a specific description of the two individuals. They had a car and a license plate, and it turns out it was completely a hoax. And they found out pretty quickly that it was a hoax.

And during the investigation they discovered, yes this was, so they thought they would qualify to have a U Visa which says under certain circumstances under certain crimes, you’re protected from being deported because you would have to participate in the actual justice system to go after these bad guys.

Now in theory, when you think you’re not actually going to be deported because there’s not actually a crime, but they think there’s a crime, it means indefinitely they’d be able to stay here.

Now, the ironic part about this story is now that they figured it out, right? They haven’t yet pressed charges, and the expectation is there are going to be some charges. Well, in Washington State, and in King County, and in Seattle, we are sanctuary. We have sanctuary policies, which means even after they are convicted, and let’s say they do some jail time, they’re unlikely to actually be deported anyway, because we will not participate with ICE and we won’t turn them over.

CARLSON: Even though they faked the crime and tied up Seattle area law enforcement trying to solve a crime they that they committed, they won’t be turned over to the Feds for deportation.

RANTZ: They will not be — they can’t be turned over because of our Washington State sanctuary law. It’s absolutely ridiculous and it’s dangerous.

CARLSON: Well, it’s also — it’s masochism, so you can sort of see what’s going on. I mean, there are people who hate our society and are seeking to destroy it obviously.

Jason Rantz, great to see you tonight. Thank you for that — for your explanation.

The Constitution clearly states, “The Congress shall have Power To…establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization….” (Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4), so Obama’s king-like creation of the DACA category was entirely unlawful, but he did it anyway. It was a major abuse of our founding document, causing increased illegal immigration of thousands, but there was little dissent from the Congress or the press.

President Obama himself recognized the illegality of an executive amnesty, shown by his frequent mention of the fact that his powers did not allow such an action. A video from 2014 showed several instances of his explaining that constitutional limitation:

Nevertheless, Obama went ahead and enacted his DACA amnesty despite its illegality. Hopefully we will see the odious thing dismantled soon.

The arguments were heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, and the legal smackdown of the Obama Amnesty must have gone pretty well, judging from the headlines.

The newspaper headline of the Washington Post read, “High court seems receptive to effort to end DACA.”

National Public Radio judged, Supreme Court May Side With Trump On ‘DREAMers’.

Here’s the New York Times article, reprinted by MSN.com:

Supreme Court Appears Ready to Let Trump End DACA Program, New York Times, November 14, 2019

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court’s conservative majority appeared ready on Tuesday to side with the Trump administration in its efforts to shut down a program protecting about 700,000 young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers.

The court’s liberal justices probed the administration’s justifications for ending the program, expressing skepticism about its rationales for doing so. But other justices, including President Trump’s two appointees, indicated that they would not second-guess the administration’s reasoning and, in any event, considered its explanations sufficient.

“I assume that was a very considered decision,” Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh said of a second set of justifications offered by the administration in a memorandum last year after its decision to end the program was challenged in court.

Justice Neil M. Gorsuch said he saw little point in requiring the administration to come forward with better or more elaborate reasons. “What good would another five years of litigation over the adequacy of that explanation serve?” he asked.

Still, the justices agreed that the young people who signed up for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, were sympathetic and that they and their families, schools and employers had relied on it in good faith. “I hear a lot of facts, sympathetic facts, that you’ve put out there, and they speak to all of us,” Justice Gorsuch said.

And while Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. indicated that the administration was on solid legal footing in saying the program was unlawful, he said the Supreme Court could rule in a humane way, minimizing the hardships people participating in the program would face if it were ended.

“It’s not always the case when the government acts illegally in a way that affects other people,” he said, “that we go back and untangle all of the consequences of that.” The program, he suggested, could be wound down in measured steps.

Chief Justice Roberts added that both the Obama and Trump administrations have said they would not deport people eligible for the program, meaning that the main practical questions if the program is ended would be their ability to work legally, obtain driver’s licenses and the like.

“The whole thing was about work authorization and these other benefits,” the chief justice said. “Both administrations have said they’re not going to deport the people.” (Continues)

What’s wrong with deporting the DACAs? It’s a free ride home.

Think of all the wonderful diversity they could experience in their own countries. Some foreigners adjust happily to their true homeland. Anyway, on a planet with seven billion persons, not everyone can relocate to America or Europe. Reforms at home are called for, now more than ever.

When President Obama announced the program on June 15, 2012, he stated clearly:

Now, let’s be clear — this is not amnesty, this is not immunity.  This is not a path to citizenship.

But now we learn from a recent report that DACA is a “path to citizenship” because of an Obama “loophole” — what a shock.

Say, am I unduly suspicious, or is immigration law filled with an abundance of “loopholes”? (A Google search today for Immigration Law Loophole gets over four million results.)

Here’s a news article about DACA loopholes that appeared on Friday’s front page of the Washington Times:

‘Paroled’ Dreamers exploit Obama loophole on path to citizenship, By Stephen Dinan, Washington Times, October 24, 2019

DACA wasn’t supposed to be a pathway to citizenship, yet at least 14,000 illegal immigrant “Dreamers” managed to use the Obama-era deportation amnesty for exactly that purpose, the government revealed this week.

The Dreamers took advantage of a “loophole” that allowed them to leave the country and be “paroled” back into the U.S. — and under the law, anyone who is paroled can apply to adjust their status to a full legal permanent resident, or green card holder.

That’s the key intermediate step on the path to citizenship.

“[President] Obama repeatedly maintained that DACA was not an amnesty, would not give immunity for illegal residence, nor a path to citizenship, but this improper loophole was set up to do exactly that — an expedited, consequence-free path to citizenship for those with a spouse or employment sponsor,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies.

The revelation came in a filing in the ongoing litigation over President Trump’s 2017 attempt to phase out the program.

The government reported the number who received expedited status through marriage to a U.S. citizen.

Ms. Vaughan said there could be thousands more who got green cards through job ties or other family relationships.

The Trump administration reported to Congress in 2017 that more than 45,000 DACA recipients had been granted advance parole — permission for those in the U.S. without permanent legal status to leave and then re-enter — creating the opportunity for them to find a valid visa that would earn them a path to citizenship.

Mr. Obama, in creating DACA through a Homeland Security memo in 2012, insisted those who applied weren’t getting a leg up.

“Now let’s be clear — this is not amnesty, this is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship,” he said.

But his administration, in writing the rules for DACA, opened a very large doorway to that path by specifically granting them the chance to win advance parole. (Continues)
