Taxpayers are footing the bill for illegal immigrant parents to collect their children from federal shelters, as the Biden administration tries to speed up the process of getting a record surge of juvenile migrants out of its custody.
Nearly 19,000 unaccompanied children were nabbed jumping the border in March, the Department of Homeland Security revealed Thursday, doubling the number from February and shattering the previous record of about 11,500, set in May 2019.
And while it wasn’t a record, the surge in families attempting to jump the border was also stunning, rising by more than 175% in just one month and suggesting that the unaccompanied children, while drawing the most attention, are not the biggest long-term challenge.
Combined, the families and unaccompanied children accounted for about 72,500 of the 172,331 illegal border encounters Customs and Border Protection recorded in March.
Troy Miller, CBP’s acting commissioner, suggested the situation was under control.
“This is not new,” he said of the surging numbers. “Encounters have continued to increase since April 2020, and our past experiences have helped us be better prepared for the challenges we face this year.”
But analysts said given the current trends, CBP is on track for 1.2 million encounters with illegal border crossers, which would be far above anything the country’s seen since the Bush years. (Continues)

Perhaps worse is the cavalier attitude of Mexico toward the contagion. Life goes on as normal there in the corrupt and clueless nation. President Lopez Obrador leads the way, still hugging supporters at campaign rallies and remarking, “the pandemics… are not going to do anything to us.”
Mexicans have long thought of themselves as superior for some odd reason, but this latest delusion is a bit much.

]]>TUCKER CARLSON: Well, as the coronavirus pandemic spreads, nations around the world are rediscovering the value of borders. Even Canada has closed itself off from outsiders.
Of course, if we wanted to shut our border, it would be difficult along the 2,000-mile border with Mexico, it would be impossible.
According to the New York Times, the Border Patrol will soon be instructed to immediately return all people detained at the border, even without a hearing.
But even then, if Mexico was hit hard by coronavirus outbreak, are we remotely ready for the ramifications of what could happen next?
John Daniel Davidson wrote a piece about this recently for The Federalist. We’re happy to have him on tonight. John, thanks so much for coming on. Explain what could happen if you would.
JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON: Yes, right now Mexico doesn’t have a huge outbreak of the coronavirus. I think they have less than a hundred confirmed cases right now.
But the danger is if there is an outbreak there, and there will be an outbreak there, health officials have said it is inevitable, it will be uncontrolled partly because the Mexican state is incredibly weak and corrupt.
They barely exercise control over vast swathes of their own territory, and the healthcare system there is virtually non-existent in some places.
So an outbreak there is going to put communities in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California that border Mexico in great danger even if the coronavirus is introduced to those areas from the United States.
Crossing back and forth over the Rio Grande is going to become a very great concern because of the lack of any kind of governmental control and the lack of any kind of preparedness in Mexico right now.
CARLSON: So if that happens, and if the Mexican economy collapses, I mean, some countries are going to see likely a severe recession or depression because of this and Mexico is one of them.
You could have a massive number of refugees, some infected coming over our southern border. The left has said — Democrats have said that’s totally fine, you know, everyone is welcome. Will they be able to continue saying that if that happens?
DAVIDSON: I don’t know. I mean, this changes the whole scenario. You know, this is sort of like the return of borders, right? All of a sudden we’ve rediscovered borders and that borders are important.
Controlling our borders is important, and the measures that are being taken right now by the Trump administration are appropriate. But it’s important to understand too that we’re looking at decades of neglect along our southwest border, where we don’t have operational control over vast swathes of the border, and the kinds of surges in asylum seekers and migrants that we saw last year, last spring coming from Central America, we could see the same thing only not coming from Central America, but coming from Mexico itself.
As you say, if the economy collapses there, if there’s an uncontrolled outbreak, we have very few options of how to control if that happens to our southwest border, and it’s something we need to start thinking about and taking seriously right now because Mexico is not up to the task, and they are not making any preparations.
They just had a huge music festival in Mexico City this past weekend. Hundreds of thousands of people and other events similar like that are happening all over the country. There’s no travel restrictions. There’s no precautions being taken on crowd, you know, limiting crowd sizes, nothing like that.
CARLSON: The President of Mexico is mocking those ideas. In the middle of a pandemic, it would be nice to have a border wall, if I can just say. John, great to see you tonight. Thank you.

]]>STUART VARNEY: Speaker Pelosi was in a difficult position. She had to sit and watch the president she detests scroll through a long list of his successes — tough indeed. Mr. Trump is winning on so many fronts, and the speaker is losing, but that does not excuse her behavior.
This was the defining moment of the night. Nancy Pelosi ripping up her copy of the president’s speech. Four pages, four rips. I will call it Petulance — that is rather mild statement to use, compared to the avalanche of criticism that erupted on social media. Later she told Fox News, she ripped up the speech, quote, because it was the “courteous thing to do considering the alternatives.”
What does that mean? I think she knew she had no serious response to the president’s achievements. So, she simply engaged in a theatrical tantrum. That is the way I see it.
During the speech, the speaker was Rude. That is an old-fashioned word, but it’s accurate. When the president called out legislators for providing taxpayer-funded healthcare for millions of illegals, she mouthed, “Not true. It’s not true.”
But wait, the speaker is from California, which has indeed pledged to use tax money for illegals healthcare. Case closed.
As the president outlined America’s remarkable economic performance, she shook her head; she rolled her eyes. Why did she do that? She doesn’t believe the booming economy? Really? She believes she should get some of the credit? That is a stretch. She is incapable of giving any credit to the president who deserves it, Donald J. Trump.
What we saw last night was we saw a speaker on the spot, stuck behind the president on camera. She could have had the good grace to do a grin-and-bear-it kind of performance. But she detests him. And she did a scowl, head shake, eye roll, theatrical rip-up performance instead. In the court of public opinion the speaker lost. The president and America won, hands down.
As it happens, the incidence of sexual nonconformity is not unknown south of the border. In the 2001 book True Tales from Another Mexico (reviewed by me in The Social Contract), a chapter was devoted to the drag queens of Mazatlan. They were managing reasonably well at that time, with a little drama thrown into the mix.
Interestingly, the English-language Mazatlan Post describing the city’s first carnival in March 2019 observed that “the Sinaloa-lesbian-gay-bisexual-transsexual community had a notable presence.”
So Mexican transgender persons are getting along fine and don’t need to be rescued by Elizabeth Warren.
More importantly, Fox Business host and math advocate Melissa Francis pointed out that the Democrats’ generous Medicare-for-All project — including all 22 million illegal aliens — is simply undoable because there is not enough money floating around to pay for it.
Along the way, Tucker went off the rails regarding his fondness for the millions of foreign invaders. In a discussion of free healthcare for illegal aliens proposed by Democrats, he remarked, “I have always thought and I still think that most illegal aliens are probably nice people. I mean, they came here because they like America. . . And most Americans like immigrants, really like them.”
Illegal aliens don’t come to America because they like this country: they come here to make more money than they could accrue at home, period.
In fact, many immigrants avoid Americans by moving directly into ethnic neighborhoods filled with people from their homeland. Similarly, a recent AP-NORC poll shows voters have noticed that newbies are not assimilating to American culture and values.
Snap out of it, Tucker. Let foreigners stay home and improve their own countries — win, win.
]]>TUCKER CARLSON: So what’s Elizabeth Warren’s strategy for becoming President? Well, it’s coming into focus slowly. She apparently believes she can win the nomination, and ultimately the President with a simple approach — on every issue, find the most left-wing possible view, and then go even further than that.
So promise Medicare-for-All, but without any tax increases. It’s magic. Use America’s wealth to fund race-based reparations because almost no one is in favor of that.
On the border, it is not easy for Warren to stand out because at this point, almost every other Democrat wants amnesty, no deportations, free healthcare for illegals. So what does she do? Well, she has found a way.
In a new letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Elizabeth Warren demands that all transgender illegal immigrants and she doesn’t say how many there are, but all transgender illegal immigrants caught at the U.S. border must be let into this country immediately.
Warren says that it’s dangerous to be transgender in Mexico. So anyone who claims they were born in the wrong body must be allowed to stay here, no questions asked to receive a taxpayer funded transition. That’s right. It’s a daring gambit by Elizabeth Warren.
She seems to have calculated that she can alienate every normal person in the continental United States and still become President. Will it work? Well, we’re about to find out.
Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are both running on a Medicare-for-All plan. And they really mean for all. They promise to give free medical care to everybody who is here illegally. It’s about 22 million people. That number is rising, and of course, it will rise dramatically if this new handout becomes law. But let’s pretend it won’t. Let’s pretend the number stays static at 22 million.
How much would it cost to give free healthcare to the legal immigrants already here? According to a new calculation, by the American Enterprise Institute, Medicare for all would cost about $10,000.00 per person per year. So multiply that by 22 million illegal immigrants and you get to $220 billion every year.
Now, even in an era of supersize numbers, that’s a ton of cash. That is, for some perspective, 10 times the entire budget of NASA. It’s also more than the current Veterans Administration budget, the VA budget, which means America would quite literally be spending more on illegal immigrant healthcare than it does on veterans. That’s their plan.
Melissa Francis is co-host of Outnumbered. She also hosts over at Fox Business and thankfully is a frequent guest on the show. She joins us tonight. So you’re the numbers person. You’re one of the good people who went to Harvard — assess our math. It’s true. There aren’t many, you’re one.
MELISSA FRANCIS: Well, thank you.
CARLSON: Assess our assessment. Are the numbers that we’re throwing out there correct?
FRANCIS: I mean, it’s interesting because the number that you quote on the number of illegal aliens that are in the country. Who knows what that number really is, right?
I mean, there’s no way of knowing. MIT was the latest one to do a study with Yale, but all focus on MIT, because they’re very good at math. And they were the ones that came up with this idea of 22 million people.
But the point is, if you do all that math out, it doesn’t even really matter, because we already can’t pay for Medicare-for-All, and I don’t mean, we can’t pay for it in the sense of, you know, we’d have to tax the middle class.
I mean, like, there isn’t the money at all. And I don’t know why more people don’t press Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, for that matter, on this because even when Bernie Sanders admits that taxes would have to go up dramatically on the middle class — that still wouldn’t do it.
If you confiscated all the money. I told you this before, but if you took away every single dollar that every person who makes more than $200,000.00 a year makes and you threw them into an abyss somewhere to die, and you took all their money, it still would not pay for Medicare-for-All.
So what difference does it make if we add a lot of illegal aliens? Why don’t we add Canada? They’re nice people. I mean, why not?
CARLSON: You know that’s exactly it. They are nice. And by the way, I have always thought and I still think that most illegal aliens are probably nice people. I mean, they came here because they like America. Well, so do I. I get it?
And most Americans like immigrants, really like them. If you want to make Americans hate immigrants, give free healthcare to illegals because that will — I mean, that will engender resentment, why wouldn’t it? Most Americans aren’t able to pay for the healthcare they want. Do you know what I mean?
FRANCIS: Right. No, it’s absolutely true. I mean, the reason why people love Medicare, and if you talk to seniors in Florida, they love it. It’s because they use four times as much in dollar terms as what they’ve paid in.
That obviously can’t work on a larger scale. It means everybody else is supporting this group. They’re the elderly, we love them. We’re happy to do it. You can get the Medicare add-on insurance, but you can’t put the whole population on that.
But you know, it’s amazing to me, Democrats and a lot of people in D.C., including Republicans, I think they think math is a myth. Math is like a vast right wing conspiracy. They’re allergic to math.
I mean, they don’t want to do any of these numbers because it would make everything impossible. And it is depressing when you can’t pay your bills and you continue to rack up credit card debt, who wants to sit down and crunch those numbers? Certainly not the politicians in Washington.
But the truth is that there literally isn’t enough money for Medicare-for-All. It’s not about who can you tax, because if you raise taxes on everyone — everyone — it still wouldn’t pay for it.
CARLSON: They’re liars.
FRANCIS: Yes.
CARLSON: And that’s kind of what it comes down to. Melissa Francis, good to see you tonight.
FRANCIS: It’s immoral.
CARLSON: Yes, it is.

Below, when a moderator requested of the Democrat candidates, “Raise your hand if your government plan would provide [medical] coverage for undocumented immigrants,” all responded affirmatively.

Incidentally, numerous illegal aliens have already come to the United States to mooch healthcare from American taxpayers. One of the most obnoxious cases was the several liver transplants performed on illegal alien Ana Puente whose aunt brought her to the U.S. from Mexico to get medical care. Puente’s attitude was one of entitlement, revealed when she remarked, “It doesn’t matter if I’m undocumented. They should take care of me at UCLA for the rest of my life because I’ve been there since I was a baby.”
In 2006, the Denver Post reported, “Hundreds of Mexican illegal immigrants are in Colorado not just for work but also for free medical care they say they can’t get back home.”
So there’s already a pattern in place of illegal aliens crossing the border to steal free healthcare from the beleaguered American taxpayer. The Democrats want to take it to the globalist extreme to get future voters and turn America into a socialist hellhole forever.
]]>TUCKER CARLSON: 2020 could be the first year that the Democratic Party nominates a self-described socialist for president. Even if they don’t, almost every Democratic candidate running right now has endorsed at least some socialist policies. What are these policies and maybe more important, how much would they cost and would they work? Is there any evidence they would?
Justin Haskins is editorial director and a research fellow at the Heartland Institute, and he joins us tonight to assess. So Justin, we want to take all policy ideas seriously. Clearly the people in charge have screwed up the country, so we’re open-minded always, but give us a sober analysis of some of the big policies these candidates are promoting. Would they make the country better?
JUSTIN HASKINS: No Tucker, unfortunately they would not make the country better: the vast majority of the policies being offered right now by the Democratic Party are going to be incredibly expensive. They have no way to pay for them, and the first one to talk about of course is Medicare for All.
A lot of people have heard that this is going to cost $32 trillion to $38 trillion dollars over the first 10 years, but what does it actually mean for middle-class people? They’re being told that they’re going to save thousands and thousands of dollars because they’re not going to have to pay expensive deductibles and co-pays and things like that, but here’s the truth: we just conducted a study at the Heartland Institute, and we found that middle-class Americans are going to get absolutely screwed by single-payer healthcare.
Forty million to 60 million American households are going to end up paying more in new federal taxes than they’re going to get back in healthcare benefits. People who make $75,000 to $100,000 a year are going to see their tax bills go up, we estimate by 12,000 to $15,000 per year. Those who earn $100,000 or more are going to see their tax bills go up on average by $20,000, and the more money you make, the worse it gets. So single-payer healthcare — there is absolutely no way to pay for that.
And that brings us to our second point: free healthcare for all illegal immigrants. This is one of the most ridiculous policies that has ever been proposed in American history. Here you have 11 million to 29 million illegal aliens here in the country right now, and that’s probably a conservative figure. Even if we assume we’re just going to pay out healthcare costs that match what we’re paying right now for Medicaid beneficiaries, we’re going to see costs goes up. Who’s going to pay for that?
CARLSON: May I stop you there? So you’re saying those costs will go up? Those are just the costs of paying for the healthcare of illegal aliens.
HASKINS: That’s right, and that’s just the start. I mean this is a big invitation to the world, to billions of people around the world — come here to America, we’re gonna pay for your healthcare. What’s to stop busloads or trainloads or planeloads of people with serious ailments from coming to the United States legally or illegally, and for us to be treating these people?
I mean this is this is total madness, and that’s why basically no other country in the entire world does something like that, so yes this is a crazy proposal from the left.
And the third big proposal is a federal jobs guarantee: now this might seem tame compared to the other things that we just talked about, but this is an incredibly dangerous proposal.
Not only is it going to be very expensive — four trillion to $44 trillion, according to the American Action Forum over a ten-year period, depending on how many people are in it. But in addition it’s going to indirectly give the federal government power over the entire labor market because if they’re offering people a living wage, anyone a living wage which could be $15, it could be $20, it could be $25 an hour it means whatever it means to the Democratic Party candidates.
If you’re offering that then how is a small business or a medium-sized business supposed to compete with the federal government? You’re going to have millions leaving their jobs in the private sector to go work for the federal government to earn $20 an hour and free health care and free paid family leave and all sorts of other things to take jobs that don’t necessarily need to exist. I mean this is crazy stuff.
CARLSON: It is crazy, and they’re all for it too.

NAIROBI, Kenya – The World Health Organization took the rare step Wednesday of classifying an ongoing Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo as a “public health emergency of international concern,” just days after a first case of the virus was confirmed in the major city of Goma, on the border with Rwanda.
The last time the global health body declared an international emergency for Ebola was during the 2014-2016 outbreak in West Africa that killed more than 11,000 people. The designation means this outbreak qualifies for a higher level of global vigilance and mobilization to stem its spread.
Ebola began spreading in Congo’s conflict-ridden North Kivu province last summer and has infected more than 2,500 people and killed nearly 1,700, according to official Health Ministry figures. . . .
The declaration should not be used “as an excuse to impose trade or travel restrictions, which would have a negative impact on the response and on the lives and livelihoods of people in the region,” said Robert Steffen, chairman of the Emergency Committee.
Meanwhile, illegal alien Africans are now streaming through America’s open border. Fox News interviewed a young Camaroonian man in May who was apparently willing to spend a lot of money and travel thousands of miles to steal a “better life” in this country rather than work to build one at home:

Open borders admit contagious disease as well as job-stealing aliens. One example was Ebola Tom (pictured) who traveled to the United States from Liberia in 2014 to mooch first-world healthcare as he knew he would receive in stupid-generous America. The nine days of medical treatment in a Dallas hospital cost $500,000, and he had no insurance.
Unfortunately for America, there’s a fair amount of overlap between the Ebola outbreak regions and areas migrants are leaving.
It’s reported that African aliens are crossing the US border in “record numbers” — though the actual figures are a little sketchy and are sure to climb. Still, the Texas Monthly detailed that from June 4 — 18, around four hundred foreigners from Angola and Congo arrived in San Antonio; and the Border Patrol says it detained 740 Africans in the Del Rio sector in the first two weeks of June.
Unfortunately, too many American communities are welcoming the Africans and other aliens rather than treating them as invaders. As a result, the United States is increasingly seen as the World Welfare Office, rather than the home of the citizens.

A baby girl delivered Tuesday in New Jersey is the first in the continental U.S. to be born with the Zika virus-related brain condition, giving rise to new fears about the spread of the disease.
Doctors, including Fox News Health Senior Managing Editor Dr. Manny Alvarez, confirmed the birth of a child with Zika virus linked to microcephaly— the first reported case of the birth defect, which is marked by a partially formed brain, in the continental United States.
The 31-year-old mother, whose name was not disclosed, apparently contracted the Zika virus while in Honduras and was admitted to the emergency room at Hackensack University Medical Center on Friday while vacationing in the U.S. Doctors at Hackensack performed an emergency caesarean section to deliver the baby girl, who was born also with intestinal and visual issues.
The mother arrived in the U.S. about 30 days ago. It was not clear if she had been diagnosed with Zika in her homeland, but doctors at the New Jersey hospital made the determination Friday. It was not immediately known how much the baby weighed, but babies born with the disease typically suffer from low birth weights.
The child’s mother, who developed a rash for two days in Honduras but had no other symptoms until arriving in the U.S., was under the care of a surgical team led by Dr. Abdulla Al-Khan and Alvarez, the hospital’s chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive science. A neonatologist and pediatric infectious disease specialist, as well as nursing personnel, were on hand for the birth.
Doctors in Honduras suspected intracranial complications with the child in utero, but it was not until she was admitted to the high-risk unit at Hackensack University Medical Center that doctors confirmed the microcephaly diagnosis. The patient’s aunt told FoxNews.com the mother is not doing well emotionally after the birth of her child.
While this is the first birth of a child with Zika-linked complications at Hackensack, it is not the first such case in the U.S. In February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that a woman in Hawaii delivered a baby who suffered from severe microcephaly as a result of Zika infection.
Microcephaly is a birth defect wherein a baby’s head is smaller than expected compared with other babies of the same sex and age. According to the CDC, babies with the condition typically have smaller brains that might not have developed properly. Microcephaly can also cause seizures, developmental delays, intellectual disability, hearing loss, vision problems, feeding issues, and problems with movement and balance. In April, researchers at the CDC concluded that after a careful review of evidence, the Zika virus is a cause of microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects.
The CDC has advised pregnant women to avoid traveling to areas where Zika is spreading, and to talk to a health care provider to prevent sexual transmission of the virus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), women planning to become pregnant should wait at least eight weeks before trying to conceive if they or their partner live in or are returning from Zika virus hotspots.
While there is no vaccine to prevent Zika virus, health officials recommend wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, as well as practicing mosquito control to prevent infection where Zika is being transmitted. According to the CDC, 591 cases of Zika have been diagnosed in the U.S., and all have been travel related. Infected patients typically do not present symptoms, but those who do may complain of fever, rash, joint pain or red eyes.

Now liberals argue that it’s cheaper to pay for normal delivery of healthcare than to have illegals running to the emergency room for every little problem, which they are allowed to do by law. But that idea ignores what a huge magnet American medicine is, and people come from all over (but particularly Mexico) to get very expensive treatment for seriously ill relatives. It was reported in 2006 that “hundreds” of illegals had arrived in Colorado for “free medical care they say they can’t get back home.” The cost for all this unaccountable do-goodery must be a fortune, and America is unimaginably broke.
This generosity even extends to organ transplants for illegals, where the rarity of available organs means that any given to a lawbreaking foreigner takes one from a citizen on a wait list. For example, illegal Mexican Ana Puente received three liver transplants from the state of California at a cost of well over a million dollars. Another transplant receiver was Jesica Santillan whose family paid a coyote $5000 to smuggle the girl for the express purpose of getting free American treatment for her life-threatening illness.
So any news that the healthcare door is wide open again may well prompt healthcare seekers to add to the crush of illegals headed for stupid-generous America.

But a new report shows that out of 25 U.S. counties with the largest unauthorized immigrant populations, 20 of them have programs that cover medical costs for illegal aliens. CARLSON: So, this is illegal, and yet it’s happening?
VARNEY: Yes, that is precisely right. They don’t get health care coverage from the federal government. They’re not part of Obamacare, but counties in America with a large number of illegals in those counties, they do have programs to provide free or very, very low-cost health care to illegal immigrants. As you just pointed out, it’s the Wall Street Journal, they’ve looked at 20 counties in America and found that they are spending $1 billion a year to provide free or very low-cost coverage for illegals. They get doctors visits, flu shots, drugs, lab tests, some surgery, all paid for by local taxpayers. Now they, all illegals of course, can go to the emergency room. That’s the law. You’re sick, you go to the emergency room, they’ve got to treat you.
CARLSON: Anybody can.
VARNEY: Anybody can do that. So, now you add on top of this the free coverage that’s given in some counties in America and you’ve basically got health care coverage for illegal immigrants being paid for probably by middle America. That’s who’s paying for it.
CARLSON: Of course, because there’s so much federal money into the states. Hillary Clinton’s now come out for adding illegals to Obamacare.
VARNEY: Her daughter Chelsea said yes, that’s right. So what you’ve got here is that you are stabilizing the illegal population in the United States. They’ve got education. They’ve got health care. They’ve got driver’s licenses in many cases. They are here. That entrenches their position in America and seriously squeezes local budgets. You want to build a new road, you want to build a new bridge, and yet you’ve got to pay for illegal health care coverage at the same time. You’re getting squeezed from all sides here.
CARLSON: Such a good point. It’s suicidal.
VARNEY: The politics of this to me is that most of these counties are Democrat run; the Democrats are buying votes, buying the Hispanic vote with somebody else’s money that is my political interpretation of what’s going on.
CARLSON: After health care and schools comes voting. It’ll happen.
VARNEY: I spent 40 years as a legal immigrant, not being a citizen and I couldn’t vote.

Breitbart has reported that Thomas Duncan (pictured), the Liberian ebola guy, came here knowingly in order to get top-notch healthcare in the US, apparently unbothered by potentially infecting many innocents along the way. Today’s Typhoid Mary is Ebola Tom.
After all, America offers free healthcare with few strings attached to anyone on earth who gets here with a compelling sob story. And Obamacare has been quietly expanded to include illegals, so they don’t even need a sob story in the newspaper to get their freebies.
There are numerous examples. One hint of the extent of medical mooching was a 2006 Denver Post article which observed, “Hundreds of Mexican illegal immigrants are in Colorado not just for work but also for free medical care they say they can`t get back home.” (Ill Mexican nationals go home, Denver Post, Nov 20, 2006)
This government-forced do-goodery is very expensive for taxpayers. Mexican Gabriela Perez was brought illegally to America by her parents to get treatment for her spina bifida. Medical care for that defect runs from $532,000 to above $1 million.
Illegal aliens also demand organ transplants, which are among the most expensive procedures, and 18 persons die daily waiting for the organ that never comes. One lucky recipient of organ transplants has to be Mexican Ana Puente who has received at least three liver transplants after her aunt brought her to the US illegally as an infant with a liver disorder. California taxpayers were dinged for around $490,000 for the operation and first-year follow-up, plus $30,000 annually for anti-rejection drugs.
It is ironic that thousands of Americans travel to Mexico to get affordable healthcare. Apparently the Mexes have first-world healthcare for those who have the money.
A danger in the present case is that Africans who fear they are infected will flee the ebola zone to this country to get American medical care that may save their lives. Not every African has the money to buy a one-way plane ticket to the US, but those who do would be encouraged by the fact that Obama scrapped medical quarantine regulations in 2010. As usual, the safety of American citizens is not a priority for this administration.

A Liberian man who traveled to the United States four days before having contact with a symptomatic Ebola victim in Monrovia “knew he had Ebola,” according to his former boss as a FedEx contractor who said he abruptly left his job before the incident.
In interviews with the Liberian Observer, one of the nation’s largest newspapers, both Thomas Eric Duncan’s former boss, Henry Brunson, and an unnamed coworker agree that they believe Duncan knew he had Ebola when he boarded a plane out of Monrovia with a final destination in Texas. Brunson noted that, having come into contact with a pregnant woman who died hours after her interaction with Duncan, he knew of his disease. “If he were in Liberia, he was going to surely die,” Brunson told the paper, saying he was “glad” that Duncan was in a country with adequate medical resources.
Duncan worked as a driver for Brunson at the FedEx contractor SafeWay Cargo until mid-September. According to the Observer, Duncan was involved in a car accident at the end of the tenure at the company, and, according to workers, “having acquired an American visa, he did not care and never returned to work afterwards.”
Another unnamed source, described as a FedEx worker in Monrovia, told the Observer that Duncan knew he had Ebola, as well. “A source at FedEx in Monrovia said Mr. Duncan apparently knew he was suffering from the disease and that his best chance of survival was reaching to the United States,” writes author Omari Jackson, “a position that a family source denied, when we sought confirmation.” The Observer notes that the departure to America, for the source and others consulted, appeared a “desperate attempt to survive.”
In previous interviews with sources in Monrovia who know Duncan, the Observer found a witness who claimed Duncan had decided to “just go” to America after receiving a visa to visit family in the United States. The decision to leave his job and abruptly go to America raises questions about whether Duncan intended to honor the provisions of his visa and leave the United States in the alloted time.
Duncan’s direct knowledge of whether he had the disease is pivotal to understanding how rigorous screening measures at airports in Monrovia are, as well as whether any guilt can be ascribed to Duncan for knowingly violating any procedures in said screening. The Liberian government has announced its intention to prosecute Duncan for having left the country, stating that it has documentation in which Duncan claimed to have never come in contact with anyone carrying the Ebola virus and that such a lie is a criminal infraction.
Both American and Liberian officials agree that he did not exhibit any outward signs of having contracted Ebola during his airport screening, though debate remains surrounding whether his symptoms upon arriving in a Texas hospital were sufficiently clear that the hospital should have immediately quarantined him, rather than their initial decision to send him home with antibiotics.
UPDATE: FedEx has released the following statement clarifying Duncan’s position at SafeWay:
We have been advised by Safeway Cargo, a FedEx Global Service Provider (GSP) in Liberia, that Mr. Duncan was not employed in the FedEx GSP operation. He was employed as a personal driver for the company’s General Manager.

In particular, Jesus was media-savvy enough to drag his cutesy anchor-daughter along to all his media appearances, with the unspoken message, “Don’t let my daddy die!!”
So now Jesus has a new-to-him kidney (meaning an American didn’t get one), courtesy of the generous UCSF hospital which provided the surgery for free to the Mexican. However, the upkeep is where the costs mount up — medications can range from $10,000 to $60,000 a year to prevent rejection of the organ for the remainder of the patient’s life.
Critics objected to California taxpayers getting reamed with the cost of his ongoing medical care, although it’s unlawful for Medi-Cal funds to be spent on illegal aliens, and the case’s notoriety would make it difficult to slide through fraudulently. No problema, says the reporter, Oakland’s La Clinica de La Raza has volunteered to perform all of Navarro’s post-surgery care for free.
However, “free” still means the taxpayers are on the hook. La Clinica gets a big chunk of its funding from government grants, $20,202,187 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.

OAKLAND — Seven years of waiting are over for Jesus Navarro, an illegal immigrant who finally received a new kidney after his story motivated one man plus thousands of others to fight on his behalf for a transplant.
Navarro, 36, was recuperating at his small Oakland apartment Thursday with his wife and daughter after the successful transplant last week at UC San Francisco Medical Center. The hospital became embroiled in controversy nine months ago after Navarro came to believe — despite having private health insurance, despite his wife’s pledge to donate her own kidney — that his immigration status doomed his chances of a transplant.
“I’m hoping to be feeling well enough to do all the things I wanted to do but couldn’t,” Navarro said in Spanish Thursday, after receiving a kidney from an organ donor. More than anything, it means finally being an active, engaged husband to his wife, Angelica, and a doting father to their 3-year-old daughter, Karen.
Until he lost his job in January, Navarro would spend 12 hours every afternoon and night tethered to a dialysis machine then wake before dawn to leave for his job as a welder at Pacific Steel in Berkeley.
“He never had time for us,” said Angelica Navarro of her husband of eight years, “just for the machine.”
Navarro’s story went viral in January after this newspaper wrote about his plight, spurring Donald Kagan — a 47-year-old San Ramon man who received a new kidney from a Nicaraguan immigrant — to take up his cause.
“Just because you’re an immigrant doesn’t mean you don’t have a right to a lifesaving transplant,” Kagan said.
More than 100,000 people across the country signed online petitions posted by Change.org, a social action group, to try to help. But others, irked that Navarro might take an organ away from a needy American citizen, suggested he go back to his home country of Mexico for the surgery.
More than 93,000 patients across the country are on the list for a kidney transplant, with more than 5,200 patients on UCSF’s list. Because of a shortage of donor organs, only 350 people will receive a transplant this year at UCSF, one of the largest kidney transplant programs in the country.
Navarro had been waiting for nearly seven years before he got the phone call at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 to rush to UCSF.
As he was wheeled into the operating room in the early hours of Sept. 27, his wife held his hand.
“I was telling him, ‘Don’t worry. Everything is going to be OK,’ ” she said. “When he left, I started to cry because I was worried.”
The transplant almost didn’t happen. In January, Navarro’s story became public after word surfaced that he had been denied a kidney because he was an illegal immigrant. UCSF officials insisted it was a “misunderstanding.” Instead, they said, Navarro was told he was being placed on “inactive” status on the recipient list because of concerns that he would not have reliable post-transplant care. But those concerns stemmed from Navarro’s immigration status; after he lost his job, Navarro faced having to rely on Medi-Cal for insurance. Medi-Cal will only pay for immunosuppressive drugs, a critical part of aftercare, for legal residents.
“We wanted to make it clear we did not deny Mr. Navarro,” said hospital spokeswoman Karin Rush-Monroe. “There was clearly a misunderstanding, and we did re-evaluate the communications process because we don’t want any patient walking away thinking something different than we thought we conveyed.”
The hospital has done transplant surgeries on illegal immigrants in the past, she added.
After reading Navarro’s story, Kagan — who received a kidney transplant in 2010 — began working to help.
“It touched my heart,” Kagan said. He worked with Navarro to make sure his health insurance continued after he lost his job, and he met with UCSF officials to encourage them to make their instructions more clear. He also connected with La Clinica de La Raza, an Oakland health clinic that volunteered to perform all of Navarro’s post-surgery care for free, which returned Navarro to “active” status on the recipient list.
“He’s like an angel to us,” Angelica Navarro said of Kagan.
It’s been a difficult road for the family, she said. At one point, her husband was so discouraged, he unplugged the catheter and threw the dialysis machine on the floor. Another time, he didn’t want to go to his niece’s quinceanera celebrating her 15th birthday because “he was so sad he wasn’t going to make it to his daughter’s” 15th birthday. And last Halloween, when Navarro couldn’t take Karen to trick or treat, both mother and daughter were in tears.
“I hate this machine,” Navarro said to his wife. “I hate it.”
All signs are good that Navarro will make a complete recovery. His wife is looking forward to the simple things, like having dinner together as a family downstairs.
“I was hoping for the last seven years to see him like this,” she said. “To have a normal life.”
And later this month, that might include trick-or-treating.
