immigration against Americans – Limits to Growth https://www.limitstogrowth.org An iconoclastic view of immigration and culture Sat, 15 Feb 2020 00:07:11 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.3 California Exodus from Diversity Is Noted https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2020/02/13/california-exodus-from-diversity-is-noted/ Thu, 13 Feb 2020 20:00:03 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=18594 Here’s an update from California. It’s still overtaxed and diverse — two factors that are connected because foreigners like big government and newbies require special services like English classes in school designed for non-speakers.

Americans have largely quit moving to the state and citizens are leaving, but immigrants still are flooding in, shown by the 11 million foreign-born residents as of 2017.

Here’s an update from Fox News reporter William La Jeunesse:

(Spare video)

WILLIAM LA JEUNESSE: California is growing wealthier, more liberal, more expensive — forcing 52 percent of residents to consider leaving, including 71 percent who identify as conservative. Many businesses already have — this company leaving LA for Texas which is set to add three Congressional seats; California is losing one. . .

CEO Magazine calls California America’s worst state for business; quality of life — the worst according to US News. Add taxes, traffic, housing, energy costs — almost 700 companies left in the last two years. . .

Yet California is growing, thanks to immigrants from abroad. Its diverse economy, among the world’s largest, attracts more college grads than any other state. . .

Some super-rich and retirees are leaving, but overall the state is gaining those that make over $125 grand, losing those that make under 75.

One seriously bad thing about African aliens is there’s a billion more where they came from.

Sunday’s Los Angeles Times had the usual sob story presentation on the front page with plenty of boo hooey stories of alleged suffering — so predictable.

Here’s a snapshot from the story, showing a masked man with a cellphone, one of dozens protesting who “demand” visas to travel to the US.

Why can’t they fix their own countries? The United States wasn’t created great — it took years of work to make it so. But aliens want to walk right in and get a full tray of freebies.

In the text below, note the “record 4,779 migrants from Africa” in the first seven months of 2019, a near quadrupling of the same period last year — this is not the direction we want.

America needs Zero foreigners from anywhere because smart machines will be doing much of the work very soon.

African migrants stuck in southern Mexico, their American dream on hold, Los Angeles Times, September 22, 2018

“Africa weeps. Free us.”

That’s the message handwritten in French and Spanish on a protest banner at a tent city here in the southernmost tip of Mexico.

The tents belong to some 250 African nationals who crossed jungles, forded rivers, sneaked across borders and dodged militias and thieves to get here in hopes of eventually reaching the United States. But now they are stuck, because Mexico has denied them the travel visas necessary to proceed north.

Mexican national guard troops and riot police keep close watch over the multi-hued camp, where mosquitoes swarm in puddles. Rain and a fetid stream provide cooking water and many complain of rashes, stomach cramps and other ailments.

“We are fed up,” said Diop Abou, 33, a native of the northwest African nation of Mauritania. “None of us want to be here in this miserable place.”

In the saga of migrants trying to reach the United States, the dominant narrative of late features Central Americans, who account for the vast majority of the 100,000 foreigners whom Mexico has deported this year under pressure from the Trump administration to prevent them from reaching the U.S. border.

But Mexico’s effort to accommodate Washington — and avoid tariffs that Trump threatened to impose — has also targeted thousands of other foreigners, including more than 1,000 Africans who have amassed in southern Mexico over the last several months.

The tent city was erected in protest more than a month ago at the entrance of Tapachula’s federal immigrant detention center, which is called Siglo 21, or 21st Century.

The lockup is reserved primarily for people awaiting deportation, mostly Central Americans.

Mexican authorities apprehended a record 4,779 migrants from Africa in the first seven months of this year — nearly four times the number detained during the same period in 2018 — but deported only two.

The difficulty is that many African countries have no embassies or consular representatives here, and some of the migrants possess no verifiable identification. And so the majority remain stranded.

Those interviewed here said they fled violence, persecution and poverty, ethnic and religious strife and political repression back in their homelands. (Continues)

California Illegal Alien Student Plans UC Davis Degree https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2019/06/11/california-illegal-alien-student-plans-uc-davis-degree/ Tue, 11 Jun 2019 19:34:39 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=17829 Monday’s San Jose Mercury News shows that the pro-alien news story remains a popular #FakeNews genre. Plus, President’s tariff deal with Mexico may cut back the invader flood for a time, so the press must continue to pester the public with sob stories of suffering foreign lawbreakers who nevertheless are found to be admirable by liberal scribblers.

The Murky-News’ sympathy object is a Mexican student with a possibly pretend name of “Dafne” who is poised to steal a spot at UC Davis from some deserving American citizen. The alien is given the front-page treatment while pretending she has “a life in hiding” because of the meanie president who is defending law and borders.

The article is all sweetness and light, with no hint that there is illegality involved that actually harms other people, like the unknown person missing out on UC Davis and all the American high school kids who got less so foreigners could mooch an American education.

Make no mistake, the sudden influx of many foreign students into a school system requires a substantial addition and reallocation of resources. Those needs include free food, tutors, Spanish-speaking teachers, psychological counseling and healthcare. So either taxes go up or American kids are short-changed.

The Supreme Court case of Plyler v. Doe guaranteeing public school for foreign kids was decided in 1982 when world population was 4.6 billion — 3.1 billion fewer than today’s 7.7 billion — so perhaps it was easier to be generous then.

Plus, when hundreds of millions of people across the world are planning migration to America or Europe, that means they are not reforming their homelands. That scenario does not work given world population growth,

The current story is a reminder that the California taxpayer is dinged for the high school education of many thousands of illegal alien students, 27,000 of whom are graduating this year.

A student and a teacher: The struggles of being undocumented in California, San Jose Mercury News, June 10, 2019

About 27,000 undocumented high school students will graduate in California this year. They face uncertain futures.

Dafne, a high school senior in San Jose, is one of a small fraction of the state’s estimated 27,000 undocumented students graduating from high schools and enrolling in four-year colleges this year.

Barred from federal financial aid and facing the gnawing uncertainty she’ll ever be able to legally work in the U.S. even after earning a degree, Dafne, 17, knows firsthand the hurdles undocumented students face to succeed in higher education.

The basketball player and cheerleader was 8 years old when her parents brought her from Mexico to San Jose. This news organization is not using her full name to protect her identity.

In middle school, she realized why her mother wouldn’t let her go on a school trip to visit the Capitol or why she couldn’t get a job at fast-food chains like her friends. She said she felt ashamed and limited by her immigration status.

But now she’s trying to break free. She will attend UC Davis in the fall.

“I think, for me, college is my ticket. It’s a ticket for me to do something greater, to be something else than just my status,” said Dafne, who hopes U.S. immigration laws will change so she can work as a high school teacher one day.

Eighteen years ago, another local undocumented high school graduate contemplated the same prospect as Dafne. Julio Navarrete also dreamed of becoming a high school teacher, but wasn’t sure he could be legally employed.

Now 34, Navarrete has been named “Teacher of the Year” at American High School, the largest in Fremont.

Six years ago, he won political asylum in the U.S. and a life-changing work permit. By then Navarrete had earned a master’s degree in education and teaching certificate at the National Hispanic University in San Jose.

“Every day I wake up feeling grateful,” said Navarrete, in his fourth year as a Spanish teacher at American High. “Just the fact that I’m able to step into a high school classroom and be with my students and teach and be part of this community. That’s all I could ever ask for.”

Dafne and Navarrete are at different points of their strikingly similar paths. They were born in Puerto Vallarta and grew up in East San Jose. Their parents worked hard to barely scrape out a living.

They navigated college applications without the Obama-era program that allows nearly 200,000 unauthorized young immigrants in California to temporarily work and be protected from deportation. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals has been closed to new applicants and tied up in the courts after the Trump administration took steps to end it.

As more undocumented students graduate from high school without DACA, Navarrete said he encourages students in his classroom to pursue their aspirations.

“I tell them that nobody can take away their education regardless of whether or not in the future they’ll be able to work,” said Navarrete. “Education is our freedom, and we need to educate ourselves. And, when they finish university, maybe things will be different.” (Continues)

President Trump’s Proposal to Improve the Quality of Immigrants Meets Opposition from the Usual Quarters https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2019/05/20/president-trumps-proposal-to-improve-the-quality-of-immigrants-meets-opposition-from-the-usual-quarters/ Mon, 20 May 2019 22:25:37 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=17758 President Trump has called for a fundament change in the government’s immigration system to require skills of entrants, rather than continue the current family-based system concocted by Sen Ted Kennedy in 1965.

Voters [...]]]> President Trump has called for a fundament change in the government’s immigration system to require skills of entrants, rather than continue the current family-based system concocted by Sen Ted Kennedy in 1965.

It’s a popular proposal, according to a Rasmussen poll published May 20, titled, Voters Still See Skills-Based Legal Entry As Immigration Fix:

Voters continue to believe the U.S. immigration system is broken and still tend to favor shifting to the skills-based system that President Trump is proposing.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 55% of Likely U.S. Voters agree with Senator Lindsey Graham’s assessment last week that “we have a perfect storm brewing at the border because of a series of broken and outdated laws related to asylum and children.”

Tucker Carlson recently presented some observations about “merit” as a value in immigration after the Democrats had the predictable reaction of squawking “Racist!” at the president for common sense. Rep. Maxine Waters reflexively described the Trump immigration policy as “very racist” last week for requiring knowledge of English among newbies.

Some noticed that the Trump plan contained no overall reduction of immigrant numbers — something strongly indicated by the anemic wage growth among US workers. NumbersUSA released a video on May 6 expressing the worker viewpoint:

Another reason to decrease immigration is the increased use of worker-replacing robots. For example, Walmart (America’s largest company by revenue) is turning to automation to save money and increase efficiency:

Plus there is no discussion anywhere of the enormous factor of world population growth — now over 7.7 billion persons, more than double the 3.7 billion residents of the planet on the first Earth Day in 1970. Nearly all of that growth has occurred in the Third World which is now happy to send its excess people to America’s open border — remittances to follow, bringing billions of dollars to alien-sending countries south of the border and beyond.

Heres’s Tucker on the argument for merit-based immigration:

TUCKER CARLSON: Good evening, and welcome to “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” This week, the Trump administration revealed its proposal to overhaul America’s immigration system. The proposal would not by itself build the often promised wall on our southern border, nor would it cut current levels of immigration despite the fact that most Americans would like to see that happen.

The one big thing the administration’s proposal would do is give priority to immigrants who might actually help America — skilled workers with English proficiency. It’s hard to see an argument against a system like that — there isn’t really an argument against that system.

For years, Democrats have argued that immigrants make vital additions to our economy. They’re smarter than we are, they’re harder working, they do better in school. They found more companies.

Well, the President has decided to take Democrats at their word; he says he wants all of those good things that immigrants bring. Watch:

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: We want immigrants coming in, we cherish the open door that we want to create for our country. But a big proportion of those immigrants must come in through merit and skill.

CARLSON: Well, much of the world would move here if they could — hundreds and hundreds of millions of people. So why wouldn’t we pick the absolute best immigrants with skills in English who would fit in better here, their kids would do better in school, they’d be more likely to contribute to social programs instead of draining them.

So are Democrats rejoicing in this change? Of course not. They’re outraged. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke for the party when she declared that really merit is a bad word because everybody has merit:

REP. NANCY PELOSI: I want to just say something about the word that they use, “merit.” It is really a condescending word. Are they saying family is without merit? Are they saying most of the people who have ever come to the United States in the history of our country are without merit, because they don’t have an engineering degree?

Certainly, we want to attract the best to our country and that includes many people from many parts of society.

CARLSON: What a shame we can’t staff the Democratic Caucus in the Congress using the same criteria the Speaker would like to fill our country. “We want to attract the best for many parts of the world,” she says. But of course by that, Pelosi doesn’t mean what she says. She means just the opposite because what exactly is best about immigrants who have criminal records or middle school education, or no ability to hold a job?

The answer is, there’s nothing “best” about that. Immigrants like that might be nice people, but they’re much more likely to burden the United States than to benefit, at least economically. Harvard doesn’t admit students who can’t speak English. It says so right on their website, so why should our country?

The left doesn’t want to answer questions like that or even have the conversation. “Shut up racist.” It is said and is declared that the current system is great. No evidence necessary. Watch this former Obama official make her fact-free case on MSNBC yesterday:

RUTGERS ECONOMICS PROFESSOR JENNIFER HUNT: What’s less obvious is that medium and even the least-skilled immigrants also contribute to the U.S. economy. They come in and they do different things for natives and they allow everyone to specialize more in what they’re doing best.

It’s that contribution of the unskilled immigrants that I think people overlook when they really push the so-called merit-based or as it is called in other countries, the point system.

CARLSON: So what Professor Hunt and so many on the left, including the Speaker of the House are arguing for is a feudal system where foreign-born worker bees toil to support a smug and pampered managerial class, of which they of course are part.

There’s no other explanation for our current policies. We don’t need more low-skilled workers in the United States, we have plenty of low skilled workers. Their unemployment rate is higher than the national average. Their wage growth has been abysmal for decades — generations. So how do those workers benefit from having more competition? Of course they don’t.

How does the country benefit by having more low-skilled workers when technological changes may soon render millions of them permanently jobless? The answer, of course is that we won’t benefit.

But for the left, whether the country benefits is not the point. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar herself a symbol of America’s failed immigration system, if there ever was one; someone who hates this country coming here at public expense, spent yesterday demanding the abolition of ICE, the decriminalization of illegal immigration itself and an end to all deportation programs.

She demands open borders, the unlimited arrival of anyone who wants to come to America whether they have anything to contribute or not. And by the way, you get to pay for it. And if you don’t want to, you’re a bigot.

You know what this is really about, of course, it’s not about civil rights. It’s a joke. It’s about money and power — their money, their power.

The left has aligned with business interests that profit from cheap, obedient workers. Low-skilled immigrants have a harder time assimilating into the American mainstream. They stay poor. They learn English more slowly. They’re more likely to remain an ethnic underclass, all of which makes them much more likely to vote Democratic long term. That’s the point, obviously.

Skilled immigrants might assimilate and become less reliable Democratic voters. They might even compete with the children of our ruling class. That’s not allowed. It’s safer to import serfs, and that’s exactly what they’re doing. Don’t let them tell you, it’s about civil rights, it’s not; it’s about their convenience and their power.

Tucker Carlson did just that during his opening monologue on Thursday about the ways that immigration anarchy is changing America’s future — and not for the better.

In particular, extreme population growth fueled by foreigners (what’s happening now) will change the culture, since the newbies come only for the dollars, not to become Americans.

Assimilation is generally expected by citizens of new residents, but the topic is little discussed by the current crop of Democrats vying for a White House slot. In fact some, like Julian Castro, embrace invasion via open borders even though traditional citizens once took pride in America as a “nation of laws.” Now, the left demands Diversity above all else, more than any other value.

The United States used to value educated immigrants who could help with the work that needed done. Instead, we are now helpless to stop a million uneducated Hondurans and other Central Americans from illegally entering the country this year. They will supply cheap, simple labor for a while to insatiable business owners, but that will end soon when the smart machines take their jobs, as described on this blog for years and observed by Tucker in his remarks.

Experts agree: fundamental technological change is coming to all sorts of workplaces, and official Washington would be wise to pay attention.

You could slide over to 3:05 minutes in the video below to avoid a couple nonsense clips from AOC delivered from the floor for some odd reason:

Spare Audio:

TUCKER CARLSON (3:05): Negativity. That’s what the activist left now calls disagreement. They are not interested at all in what anyone outside their tiny little world has to say. Every day, you see Democratic presidential candidates endorsing some new policy that has pretty much zero public support, but it sounds like something woke baristas in Brooklyn would be excited about.

Banning ICE, ignoring federal immigration law, giving amnesty to millions. Decriminalizing illegal border crossings which is to say totally open borders. Anyone can come. When they get here, give them free stuff. Nobody really wants any of this even most of the people saying know, it wouldn’t work.

The public would revolt if you tried it. If half of Guatemala moved here tomorrow, which is exactly what would happen, it wouldn’t help anyone. This is all fantasy.

Countries have borders. That’s what makes them countries. Someday, the AOC moment will pass. It’s too stupid to continue. And at that point, sober Democrats will wake up and rejoin the adult conversation and progress. What do we want from our immigration system?

Well, here are some of the questions they should have to answer when that happens. First and most obvious, how many immigrants should we admit every year? What’s the ideal number? We currently take a little over a million every year, legally. Should we double that to over two million? How about 10 million immigrants a year? How about 20 million? Is there any number that’s too high? And if so, why?

While we are at it, what’s the ideal population of the United States? Immigration effects population size more than any other factor. We’re at about 325 million people in the United States today and that’s a lot.

Our highways are crumbling, many of our cities are painfully overcrowded. How big should we get? Four hundred million? Six hundred million? A billion people? And if you are pushing to increase the size of our population and they are, what’s your plan for keeping our natural environment pristine?

Crowded countries are polluted. Every single one of them. Tell us why we should want that here? What sort of skills and education should we look for in immigrants? Not all immigrants are the same? Some start wildly successful companies. Many others go on food stamps. They are not interchangeable widgets, they are human beings. Who should we prefer? What’s the ideal level of education an immigrant to this country should have?

Big business doesn’t want you to ask this question, they like their immigrants low-skilled and cheap. Ocasio-Cortez does, too. But what happens when technology kills their jobs? And it will. All the major Democrats running for president take money from the technology barons, many of them support self-driving cars. So what do you do with hundreds of thousands of unemployment immigrant cab drivers? Do they all go on welfare?

And speaking of, what sort of government services are immigrants entitled to exactly? Democrats promise universal healthcare. Do immigrants get that, too? Who pays for it? How many immigrants can our system support? Do we have enough doctors and nurses and hospitals to treat the number of immigrants we want to admit? Same question for schools.

The real answer is, of course, nobody knows. Because as of today, we have no idea how many immigrants live illegally in the United States. Shouldn’t we find out before we make more plans? And once we do find out, what do we do with them? Who gets deported? Anyone? Or do all of them get to stay? What if the real number of people living here illegally is north of 25 million? And that’s entirely possible. That’s bigger than the population of 48 out of 50 states. It’s enough to change this country completely and forever.

Do all of them get citizenship and voting rights? What about gun rights? And do they immediately start paying into the Reparations for Slavery Fund that Democrats are now promoting? How do you explain that to them? Can we watch that conversation?

And finally what about America’s ideals? Democrats are always talking about values when the subject of immigration comes up. They quote from the poem on the Statue of Liberty and tell you about their grandparents.

Well, previous waves of immigrants were asked to buy into this country’s most basic ideals — religious pluralism, free speech, political freedom, equality under the law. Our schools made them learn English and tried to instill patriotism. We called it assimilation. We thought it was critical to our social cohesion. Are we still for that? Do we still think we have values to impart or do we imagine that huge groups of people with nothing in common can share the same country without fighting each other?

It’s an important question — maybe the most important question of all. We never hear anyone ask it. Anyone who dares ask it is banned from Twitter. Instead, you hear the endless drone of self-righteous children barking about racism. That’s not enough. The decisions we make today about immigration are irreversible. It will help determine the health of the country we leave to our grandchildren. We should be a lot more serious than we are.

Even worse may have been the reaffirmation of increasing immigration that President Trump first made in the SOTU. Near the end of the White House presser, a reporter asked, “How much more immigration would you like to see?”

The president responded, “Well, we’re going to have a lot of people coming into the country. We want a lot of people coming in. And we need it.”

It’s interesting how Trump doesn’t seem to like the word “immigrants” when it is preceded by “more” or “increased” so we hear about “people coming in.” Apparently he can discipline his speech when he wants to.

Millions of Americans did not vote for candidate Trump in 2016 to increase the number of foreigners living here, taking jobs and benefits from the country; quite the contrary.

There are still millions of American citizens who are unemployed and should be trained and/or hired rather than importing foreigners.

Dobbs voiced his disappointment on his March 6 show:

LOU DOBBS: President Trump’s America First economic initiatives have produced higher wage growth in this country, higher productivity for American workers and business. The president’s policies have forced US companies to pay workers more money and to boost productivity.

What are the numbers? American wages have risen three percent in the past year; they’re projected to rise again rise in to 2020 by those projections, and at the same time productivity projected to rise still.

Tonight I’d like to share a few thoughts, however, about what I fear is a new direction for the president and his administration and what could very likely be a catastrophe for our working men and women, small business and entrepreneurs — our middle class, the American family, the very people this president has represented from the moment he announced he would run for the presidency.

Now I try never to overstate, let alone indulge in hyperbole but what we watched unfold today at the White House was to me a disastrous policy turn and heartbreaking. What the White House billed as a meeting of major corporate CEOs who will serve on the president’s workforce advisory board, that board to be co-chaired by presidential adviser Ivanka Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. Their purpose, their concerns — here’s the president on both issues:

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We’re gonna have a lot of people coming into the country; we want a lot of people coming in, and we need it. We want to have the companies grow and the only way they’re going to grow is if we give them the the workers, and the only way we’re going to have the workers is to do exactly what we’re doing.

DOBBS: To be clear, the presence of the Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue is impossible to misinterpret. DC’s biggest lobbyists wants to reverse the direction of rising labor costs and return to the cheap labor policies of the 20 years that preceded the Trump presidency. I don’t even know why this White House would let him in the door. He is the enemy of this administration and absolutely tries to reverse every policy in business and economics that this president has advanced.

The White House could only muster by the way 7 corporate CEOs for this big event. In what should have been a reminder to the president’s advisors and counselors that in politics, as in life, it is important to never forget who your friends are. And if this White House thinks that listening to the beguiling prattle of Tim Cook, Tom Donohue, RINO senators like Susan Collins is helpful to this president, then the battle for the forgotten man and woman in this country will be decided by the very establishment this president ran against. An establishment that spends vast sums of money and energy every single day trying to destroy him and his policies and his historic presidency.

That Mr. Trump would advance the interest of the globalist elites ahead of our citizens would be a tragic reversal on any day, but today — on the same day the Commerce Department reported the United States had the largest trade deficit in our history, the same day the president of the New York Fed said straight forwardly economic growth is slowing, that the southern border is being overrun by record numbers of illegal immigrants — it all means the White House has simply lost its way and that the nation’s heart will be after all broken by the very same people who brought 50 years of consecutive trade deficits and the export of millions of middle-class jobs and who have fed the swamp for decades.

I have a request tonight please let your Congressman and this White House know what you think about all of this and please be very honest with them. I’d make the same request of the advisers and the counselors to this president when this have served him and the nation so poorly.

The vote is being framed partially by a debate on birthright citizenship because President Trump has challenged the long held interpretation of the 14th Amendment. The question of meaning resides in the phrase “subject to the jurisdiction of” written by Senator Jacob Howard of Michigan which is now under overdue scrutiny.

Tucker Carlson Tonight, Transcript, October 30, 2018

TUCKER CARLSON, HOST: Good evening and welcome to “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Just a week to go from tonight until the midterms and Election Day is finally becoming a referendum on something that really matters, immigration. Who gets to live here? What does citizenship mean? What kind of country do we want? These are not small incidental questions, which you are watching is not an argument about Russian Facebook ads or Stormy Daniels or her creepy lawyer or some other diversion designed to prevent you from thinking clearly. These are core debates. These are the arguments that every functioning democracy must have and yet ours rarely does.

Consider the question of birthright citizenship. Under current interpretations of American law anyone born on our soil automatically becomes a U.S. citizen. Context is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if your parents were terrorists or illegal aliens or foreign saboteurs, if their plane was forced down to refuel and you emerged. It doesn’t matter. If you were born on our property, you are a citizen.

In a recent interview with Axios, President Trump suggested, this is not a great deal for America. He pledged to change it with an executive order.

As of tonight, it seems likely that order would abolish so-called birth tourism. That’s where people travel to the United States solely for the purpose of having kids and winning citizenship along with the many benefits that follow from that. We’ll know more about it soon and of course we’ll tell you when we do know.

But nobody else in Washington is waiting for details. They hate it already. The very same people who have spent decades trying to gut the Bill of Rights are now lecturing the rest of us that the idea is — brace yourself — unconstitutional.

Paul Ryan for example, he is the outgoing speaker of the House. He announced his opposition to this immediately. The very idea he said is ridiculous. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE PAUL RYAN: Well, you obviously cannot do that. You cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CARLSON: Well obviously, obviously. Note the phrasing. Obviously, that’s what people say when they don’t feel like making a rational case for their positions, usually because they can’t. Is it really “obvious” that the Constitution requires us to give citizenship to the children of illegal aliens. Paul Ryan has no idea. He just doesn’t want to have a conversation about it. He wants you to be quiet.

In fact, as a legal matter, it is an open question. The Supreme Court has never ruled on it. But there is ample reason to believe the law does not apply to illegal immigrants or birth tourists.

Birthright citizenship arises from the 14th Amendment that was passed just three years after the Civil War and it was passed to guarantee citizenship to freed slaves. The senator who wrote the citizenship clause in the 14th Amendment, Jacob Howard of Michigan, explained the point of it on the Senate floor at the time.

“The Amendment will not of course include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers.”

Again, the Amendment was designed to ensure that newly freed slaves would be treated as the American citizens they were. The point was to enfranchise African-Americans. The point was not to enable the rest of the world to scam our system, to abuse our generosity. Trump’s proposal would get us closer to the purpose of the 14th Amendment. And for that he is being denounced naturally as a racist. Listen to some of the dumb people on TV:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What used to be five years ago, 10 years ago, dog whistles to appeal to the fears of white voters now are just stated openly.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The principal debate in Europe, in the United States, the real fault line that gets people going is this issue of openness. How open are we to people? How open are we to trade? And it’s this issue of national identity versus internationalism, globalism if you will. So what Donald Trump is doing is he is mining that fault line. He is working it, whether it’s birthright citizenship, whether it’s sending troops to a border that’s not under siege. We’re no longer arguing serious issues about how to regulate our economies. We’re no longer arguing serious issues say about how to fight the Cold War.

We are arguing questions about national identity and that’s not that far to get from that to issues of racism.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CARLSON: So, let’s get this straight, defining citizenship is not “a serious issue”, only in New York and Washington where serious is where to find good Barada or how to get to the Hamptons in under three hours on a Friday night. These people are total buffoons.

In fact, there is no more serious debate than the debate over citizenship. And it’s long overdue. Globally. birthright citizenship is the rare exception. It is not the rule. Canada and the U.S. are the only developed countries that have birthright citizenship. Not a single European country allows it. Out of the 54 countries in Africa, only two offer birthright citizenship. Are the other 52 racists?

How about Harry Reid, is he a racist too? Watch the former Democratic Senate Majority Leader explain his views on birthright citizenship.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

FORMER SEN. HARRY REID: If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t enough. How about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that. Right. Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission to give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee a full access to all public and social services this society provides and that’s a lot of services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense in country, county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CARLSON: Now as a factual matter, that’s tougher than anything Donald Trump has ever said. Keep in mind that just four years ago that man, Harry Reid, was the top Democrat in the Senate. Try saying that today, he’d be called Bull Connor and shouted off the stage. But the questions he raised are still fair questions. Is unlimited birthright citizenship helping this country or is it hurting this country?

Under our current system, illegal immigrants who come to the U.S. and have children are eligible to receive tax credits, food stamps, other welfare benefits. Those are huge incentives. Not surprisingly, one in every 12 births in this country right now is to someone here illegally, and that total does not even include birth tourism.

Every year tens of thousands of foreign nationals come to this country on tourist visas solely to give birth to children. The Chinese are strongly overrepresented in this. One ad in China offers “high end U.S. birth tourism specialists” for just 20 grand, these experts navigate clients through the process of having a child in America.

In return for that 20 grand, their kids gain the right to Social Security, Medicare and countless other federal programs. If they come back to the U.S. for college, they get in-state tuition, federally backed student loans, financial aid, all the benefits that ought to be going to actual Americans who are drowning in college debt. This is a scam. There is no other word for it.

And by the way don’t blame the Chinese or the Russians or the Salvadorans or anybody else using the system, we’re the ones offering it. Why wouldn’t they take it? The blame lies with us. No other country would allow itself to be relentlessly exploited like this for decades and no other leadership class would side with foreigners over its own people. And yet ours does every time and that tells you everything.

The topic caused an explosion among Democrats who depend on non-citizens and illegal aliens in states like California where big numbers of foreigners have inflated the number of Representatives in the House. If Congressional districts were apportioned on the basis of US citizens, California would lose seats and the heartland would gain.

As Breitbart.com headlined on March 29, 2020 Census: Counting Citizens Likely to Shift Power from Illegal Alien-Flooded Coasts to Middle America.

The Rasmussen poll shows the the people want citizenship to count.

Americans Strongly Support Citizenship Status on Census, Rasmussen Reports, March 30, 2018

The U.S. Census Bureau released their 2020 census questions, including one that asks whether respondents are legal U.S. citizens. Americans recognize the importance of the census and are on board with including the question moving forward.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 89% of American Adults agree it’s at least somewhat important for the government to get as accurate a count of the U.S. population as possible in the U.S. Census, including 69% who say it’s Very Important. Here’s a trailer:

The upshot is this: in 1969, a young Ted Kennedy drove a car off a narrow wooden bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, just off of Martha’s Vineyard, landing upside down in a pond leaving campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne trapped inside to die. Kennedy escaped, but did not report the accident to police until 10 hours later. The Kennedy family fought back with a cacophony of lies to fool the idiot press and save the cowardly Kennedy.

If the liberal media had not been so credulous and fawning about the Kennedys, it’s possible Teddy would not have later become the “lion of the Senate” — although the scandal did fortunately scuttle his presidential ambitions. But Senator Kennedy did go on to accumulate a mountain of liberal legislation, the worst of which was certainly his massive immigration bill that changed America forever.

If Kennedy had not been allowed to skate on allowing Mary Jo to die, history might have taken a different turn. There’s no way to know.

But we can remember the lies he spouted to pass the anti-American Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, as briefly listed in the 2015 Breitbart article Ted Kennedy’s Real Legacy: 50 Years of Ruinous Immigration Law:

SENATOR TED KENNEDY: “First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…

Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset… Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia…

In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think… The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”

Below, President Lyndon Johnson signed the 1965 Immigration Act as Ted and Robert Kennedy looked on.

Back to the movie, Fox News’ Shannon Bream had a good explainer segment a few days ago:

Degraded California Is Debated by Tucker Carlson and a San Francisco Liberal https://www.limitstogrowth.org/articles/2018/03/04/degraded-california-is-debated-by-tucker-carlson-and-a-san-francisco-liberal/ Sun, 04 Mar 2018 23:16:58 +0000 https://www.limitstogrowth.org/?p=16285 On Friday, Tucker Carlson expanded upon a recent report from US New & World Report that California now ranked dead last for quality of life.

The San Francisco Chronicle reacted in shrieks of alarm at the criticism heaped upon the Golden State:

Tucker Carlson suggests California is turning into a third world country because of poor Latin American immigrants, March 3, 2018

Primetime Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson used a segment during his show Friday night to focus on a recent report that rated California last in terms of quality of life among the 50 US states.

“How do you take a place that was as world famous as Eden and in 50 years, make it the worst place in America?” Carlson asked his guest, radio talk show host Ethan Bearman.

When Bearman suggested that overpopulation might be one of the reasons for California’s poor quality of life, Carlson interjected.

“Hold on, where do the majority in the past 30 years — where do the majority of those people come from?” he asked. “Do they come from the Midwest? No, they came from a third world country. Do you think that might have something to do with it?” . . .

Tucker also analyzed some cause and effect: “If you import millions of really poor people with no education . . . maybe your state gets a lot more like the countries they left.”

Doesn’t that make sense? A country is made up of its people, and California’s population is 27 percent foreign born — that’s 10.7 million — the highest proportion in the nation.

That symptom is visible where Mexican barrios have grown enormously in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco and Spanish becomes a necessary language to function in those areas.

Arguably the worst social breakdown on view is the drugs on the streets, where people shoot heroin in public. Tucker showed a photo sent to him of a sidewalk near his San Francisco office:

A Bloomberg article from a year ago reported that “As much as 94 percent of the heroin entering America comes from Mexico,” so the Mexican influence is inflicted in a way which Carlson did not mention specifically.

Anyway, here’s the video of the debate between Tucker Carlson and Ethan Bearman about California dystopia:
