Former Veep Joe Biden Praises Illegal Aliens, Even When They Drive Drunk

What must foreigners think when they see news that a major Presidential candidate promises free healthcare and “reparations” for illegal aliens while excusing dangerous driving habits? Certainly some persons not yet living in the US would consider relocation as a result, and they might encourage illegal cousins in America to cast unlawful votes for Candidate Biden.

The former vice president was analyzed by Tucker Carlson recently for the thoughtless remarks designed to appeal to persons whose culture may not value highway safety. It was disturbing to see Biden essentially excuse drunk driving when it has killed many thousands of Americans over the years. Drunk driving has been more accepted among certain cultural groups, like Mexicans, so diversity is definitely not a strength on that front.

This website has noted the deaths of numerous Americans as a result of drunk driving illegal aliens, such as the few following:

Below, 21-year-old Sarah Root was killed in Omaha just a day after her college graduation in 2016 by one of Obama’s protected DREAMers, reported here: ”Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.”

Mesa, Arizona, police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed by a head-on collision with a previously arrested but not deported drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood alcohol level of .24 percent.

Young Alabama couple Tad Mattle and Leigh Anna Jimmerson were killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit and who had at least four previous DUIs.

Houston Officer Kevin Will died when a drunk Mexican crashed through a police barrier at 90 mph and hit Will as he was standing on a road shoulder investigating an accident.

Three-year-old Marten Kudlis was run down in a Colorado ice cream shop by a 16-times-arrested drunk-driving illegal alien. Two adult women were also killed when the truck smashed into the building.

Best friends Tessa Tranchant, 16, left, and Allison Kunhardt, 17, died when their car, stopped at a light, was hit by a seriously drunk illegal alien, who had three previous alcohol-related convictions but was not deported.

There are many more preventable drunk-driving deaths to mention, but I’ll stop and continue with Tucker Carlson’s discussion of Joe Biden:

(A spare video, slightly longer, is here.)

TUCKER CARLSON: Now they tell you that the Democratic establishment wants Joe Biden as the nominee in the first place because he’s moderate and can win. But is Joe Biden actually moderate? He hugs people — that doesn’t mean he’s moderate, he’s just not a threat to the lifestyle of Democratic leaders.

On immigration for example, he’s not moderate by anybody’s definition. In a recent interview with Vice, Biden explained that even illegal aliens who commit drunk driving offenses ought to be allowed to stay here forever. Watch:

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE JOE BIDEN: You only arrest for the purpose of dealing with a felony that’s committed, and I don’t count drunk driving as a felony.

CARLSON: Yeah have a few beers, like whatever. Drunk driving kills thousands of Americans every year: Democrats used to tell you a lot about that. Biden doesn’t care any more, not if illegals are doing it. And for good measure after those illegal immigrant drunk drivers cause a crash, they get free healthcare for their injuries. while their victims may not.

Do you get free health care? No, but Biden likes to give it to people here illegally.

That’s okay. After all, according to Biden, illegal aliens are more American than you are. He said it. Watch:

BIDEN: These kids that come, they’ve done well. Most of these kids — there’s a lot of them, they’re not just hispanic or Asian-Pacific islanders as well. And they in fact have done very well. In many cases, they’re more American than most Americans are because they have done well in school; they believe the basic principles that we all share.

CARLSON: “They’re more American than most Americans are,” more American than you are — shut up, you foreigner. In the same interview, Biden vowed to protect drunk drivers. He also said Americans must pay reparations to illegal aliens for what they’ve done to them. Watch:

VICE SHOW HOST: Do these numbers separated by the federal government deserve any kind of reparations or any kind of restitution for what they suffered?

BIDEN: Yes, they should be made whole; they should be made whole in terms of first and foremost getting back with their families. That’s it, I mean reparation is repairing damage. Some of you, part of the Latino community, what is, talk about things — let people know the anxiety the children you know of or parents who may have an illegal parent and an undocumented parent in the country.

It’s an enormous anxiety, and so that’s why we should be fighting them, the kind of help that is needed and the family that helped me to restore their confidence restore their sense of who they are.

CARLSON: Oops, he said it “illegal” but quickly corrected himself — “undocumented.” That’s fine, go ahead and drunk drive. By the way, we’re giving you reparations and free healthcare. Continue reading this article

Illegal Alien Detention Centers Still Suffer from Excessive Luxury

Griff Jenkins’ recent report on the ICE processing center in Adelanto, California for illegal aliens was maddening for the facility’s deluxe features and services. Those benefits include free phones made available so Jose can call home and tell all his relatives how generous Uncle Sucker is with the American taxpayer’s cash.

Exclusive tour of California immigration facility contradicts claims of inhumane conditions, overcrowding, Fox News, By Griff Jenkins, July 26, 2019

A law library. Access to 24-hour health care and mental care. Outdoor soccer fields.

An exclusive look inside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center revealed scenes dramatically at odds with claims the facilities are poorly run and the scenes of misery and overcrowding.

Fox News was given rare access to an immigration detention facility in Adelanto, Calif. Video cameras were allowed inside. The ICE facility, just one of 31 such centers in the U.S., is run by privately contracted company GEO Group.

During a tour led by Thomas Giles, acting director of ICE’s Los Angeles field office, Fox News observed detainees had access to 24-hour health care, dental care, mental health care, unlimited phone calls, legal advice, a law library, physical-contact visitations, outdoor recreation and religious services seven days a week. (Continues)

However, anyone paying attention to the history of accommodations for America’s invaders wouldn’t be surprised by the luxury which was reported at least as early as 2012.

The Karnes City Texas center was so over the top that in 2012, the House Immigration Subcommittee investigated the $30 million spent on the Karnes facility in a hearing called Holiday on ICE.

Chairman of the full House Judiciary Committee Lamar Smith remarked during the hearing:

Among the new amenities, the Karnes City facility contains a library with free Internet access, cable TV, an indoor gym with basketball courts, soccer fields, and sand, and that is for beach volleyball. Instead of guards, unarmed ‘‘resident advisors’’ patrol the grounds. And the cost of the complex: over $30 million taxpayer dollars. . .

This hearing is entitled, ‘‘Holiday on ICE,’’ because ICE has decided to upgrade accommodations for detained illegal and criminal immigrants. While we would all like to be upgraded, we do not have the luxury of billing American taxpayers or making Federal law enforcement agencies our concierge.

Below, the Karnes Library includes books and the internet in a comfy setting.

Karnes also had racks of free new clothes with the tags still attached for the illegal kiddies.

Greta van Susteren was outraged at the luxury and cost of the facility — $140 per resident daily x 532 detainees = $74,500 per day total:

When the US jail is nicer than the homes of illegal aliens, why would they stop coming? Obviously Americans are rich and generous toward foreigners, even invaders — that’s the encouraging message the aliens are getting from the excessive TLC. Negative reinforcement is needed, not these constant rewards for lawbreaking.

Finally, another reaction to Griff Jenkins’ report came from Sabine Durden, whose son Dominic was killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien with previous arrests. She recognized the facility as the one where her son’s killer was housed in deluxe accommodations.

She also objected to Adelanto’s opulence for lawbreakers, remarking, “They shouldn’t have that kind of luxury. We have American citizens out on the street that wish they could stay there for a weekend. I know this one thing, that illegal aliens whether they get caught or they just sneak in and don’t get caught, it’s a win-win for them. In Adelante they go to Club Med; they get their dental, medical issues taken care of. If they don’t get caught, they work under the table, make tax-free money and send it back — while American citizens don’t have that. It’s not fair: they should have three warm meals and get out of this country, deported swiftly.”

Sabine Durden spoke at Donald Trump’s Republican Convention about victims of illegal alien crime.

Boston ICE Official Defends Immigration Enforcement

How unbalanced has this country become when an ICE official has to argue the correctness of arresting foreign criminals who have no right to be present in the US?

Worse, why do parents of children killed by illegal aliens feel they must defend American law enforcement from open-borders crazies?

Boston ICE chief Todd Lyons appeared in a discussion with Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies on February 26 in West Roxbury:

Boston ICE chief: We only target ‘worst of the worst’, Boston Herald, February 27, 2019

Boston ICE chief Todd Lyons pushed back against proponents of “sanctuary city” policies, saying his immigration-enforcement organization needs the cooperation of local law enforcement to get its targets: illegal immigrants who commit crimes here.

“When you politicize law enforcement, it makes it bad for everyone,” Lyons said when asked about people who support sanctuary cities — places where local law enforcement can’t cooperate with federal authorities.

“We have the opportunity to take the actual criminal element out of the community,” Lyons said during a Tuesday evening community meeting in West Roxbury. “We don’t understand why when you have the opportunity to take the criminal element out of the location, we don’t understand why we wouldn’t be allowed to do our job.” (Continues)

Here’s a video report on the event, in which crime victim Maureen Maloney appeared last, remarking, “The man who killed my son entered the country illegally. He worked with false identification he was driving without a license. He killed my son on August 20th 2011: he should have been deported well before that. He had come in contact with the police on several occasions. He had committed breaking and entry, and assault and battery on a police officer and all he received was a slap on his hand.”

In 2014 Maureen Maloney held a photo of her dead son Matthew Denice as she gave a victim’s statement at the sentencing of illegal alien Nikolas Guaman for the manslaughter death.

Leader McCarthy Recognizes Crime Victims of Illegal Aliens

Last week, the House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy gave a 10-minute floor speech which included a long (but necessarily incomplete) list of Americans killed by illegal aliens.

Of course, every crime committed by an illegal foreigner should have been prevented by immigration enforcement, but wasn’t. A top job of government is to protect the citizens from foreign enemies, and America’s open borders make that responsibility an ongoing joke. Politicians used to brag that America was a “nation of laws” but you never hear that phrase any more.

Plus, crime is a job some Americans will do, so we needn’t import foreigners to do the robbing and murdering for us.

Back to McCarthy, he began his remarks on the House floor with a denunciation of the Democrats’ outright refusal to negotiate with the president on funding for the border wall — even though top Dems like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

Incidentally, McCarthy is not the first member of the legislature to remember persons killed by illegal aliens: on Thursday, Senator Joni Ernst paid tribute to Sarah Root, just 21, who was killed by a drunk-driving illegal three years ago. Both the Republican-run House and Senate have held hearings in the last four years focused on the human consequences of crime caused by open borders. And Donald Trump’s 2016 GOP Convention heard from several crime victim families.

Below, on January 15, Rep. Mo Brooks recalled several Alabamians lost in crimes committed by illegal aliens.

McCarthy spoke about the crime issue starting at around 3:20:

AUDIO version here:

LEADER KEVIN McCARTHY: There has been 266,000 criminal aliens arrested in the last two years. This includes charges and convictions of 100,000 assaults, nearly 30,000 sex crimes and 4000 violent killings. Three hundred Americans die every week from heroin, and more than 90 percent of heroin comes from across the southern border. And roughly 10,000 children are being smuggled into the US every year to be sold for human trafficking.

And they are celebrating a status quo that leaves 700,000 DACA-designated individuals unsure about their future. It was the best display of politics that this country is sick and tired of seeing. Zero-sum politics and nothing ever changes. Well I’d like to spend some time and reflect on Americans and their families who may not have been celebrating the status quo preserved by this majority:

1. Jerry David

2. Sherri David

3. Deputy Josie Greathouse-Fox

4. Pierce Corcoran

5. Officer Ronil Singh Continue reading this article

Senator Ernst Remembers Sarah Root, a Victim of Illegal Alien Crime

On January 31, 2016, Sarah Root was killed by drunk driving illegal alien Edwin Mejia. She was just 21, and had graduated from Bellevue University the day before.

On the three-year anniversary of Sarah’s death, Senator Joni Ernst spoke on the Senate floor about the preventable loss, as well as a reintroduction of Sarah’s Law, proposed legislation that would prohibit federal immigration officials from releasing any illegal alien who has committed a violent crime against an American citizen

On Third Anniversary of Her Death, Senator Ernst Re-Introduces Sarah’s Law, Senator Ernst Press Release, Jan 31 2019

Ernst: “We have an obligation to the Root family, and to the American people, to ensure that no person falls victim to this injustice again”

WASHINGTON – On January 31, 2016, the night of her graduation, Sarah Root, a twenty-one year-old Iowan from Council Bluffs, was struck and killed in Omaha, Neb., by Edwin Mejia, who entered the country illegally and was driving drunk – three times over the legal limit.

Today, on the third anniversary of her death, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), along with Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Deb Fischer (R-NE) and 11 of their colleagues, re-introduced legislation in honor of Sarah, to allow federal law enforcement to detain illegal immigrants criminally charged with killing or seriously injuring another person.

“It is wholly unacceptable that someone who is here illegally and is responsible for the death of another human being is not considered an enforcement priority nor is detained by ICE. We have an obligation to the Root family, and to the American people, to ensure that no person falls victim to this injustice again.  Sarah’s Law brings us one step closer to restoring justice in our broken immigration system by allowing ICE to detain and hold these criminals accountable,” said Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA).

“The tragic death of Sarah Root three years ago and the ongoing search for her killer underscore the serious attention border security and immigration enforcement require in America. Sarah’s life was cut short by an undocumented immigrant who disregarded the rule of law and decided to get behind the wheel after drinking.  The Obama Administration refused to take custody of Sarah’s killer because it didn’t consider him a priority, allowing him to disappear into the shadows. The Roots have been robbed of their daughter, and at least for now, they have been robbed of justice.  Our legislation, named in Sarah’s memory, will ensure that those who harm or kill Americans will be taken into custody and removed while also ensuring that victims and their families get the information they deserve from the government as they pursue justice,” said Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

“Edwin Mejia’s mugshot shouldn’t be on a most wanted poster — Edwin Mejia should be in jail, serving hard time for the life he took and the pain he left behind,” said Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE). “Sarah’s Law is common-sense legislation that Sarah and her family deserve to have signed into law. Congress should waste no time sending this legislation to the President’s desk for his signature.” . . .

Crime Victims of Illegal Aliens Are Remembered on House Floor

Rep Mo Brooks (R-AL) took to the House floor on Tuesday to speak about the crime victims of illegal aliens, a subject that never gets enough attention. America has plenty of home-grown criminals and doesn’t need to import more via open borders.

Below, Rep. Brooks listed some of the many preventable deaths caused by illegal aliens in the US.

One of the crimes was familiar, the deaths of Alabama residents Tad Mattle and his girlfriend Leigh Anna Jimmerson who died when Tad’s car was rear-ended by a drunk-driving illegal. The killer was a repeat offender (pictured in the inset of photo at right) who should have been deported after several DUIs but wasn’t.

Here’s the text version of Rep. Brooks’ speech:

Brooks Slams Democrats in House Floor Speech for “Aiding and Abetting” Illegal Alien Killers January 15, 2019, Press Release

Washington, DC — Tuesday, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) delivered a passionate House Floor speech describing the lives and deaths of people killed on American soil by illegal aliens and challenging Democrats in Congress who protect illegal aliens to, instead, help protect American lives.

The full text of Congressman Brooks’ speech follows:

Mr. Speaker, in 2018, more than 2,000 illegal aliens were apprehended by federal law enforcement officers for homicides committed on American soil.

That is roughly 2,000 dead in just one year!  And that does not count some number of the 70,000 Americans whose lives are snuffed out each year by poisonous drugs, much of which is shipped illegally into America across our porous southern border!

Americans would know about these horrific killings if the media diverted just a fraction of the time it spends on extolling illegal aliens and attacking our brave border patrol and ICE officers and agents to telling the stories of American lives needlessly ended by illegal aliens.

Today I share a few stories about those who died solely because of illegal aliens and our porous southern border.

Louise Sollowin was a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother. Louise spent 50 years helping her sister fire up the oven at Omaha, Nebraska’s Orsi’s Italian Bakery, where she worked well into her 80s.

In 2013, after 93 years of life, Louise was brutally raped and beaten to death by an illegal alien. To make matters even more horrific, Louise’s daughter found her bleeding, battered and dying mother with a naked illegal alien passed out on top of her.[1]

In 2010 in Houston, Texas, 14-year-old Shatavia Anderson, was shot in the chest and killed by two illegal aliens. Shatavia loved her family and loved talking on the phone. She proclaimed that one day she was [quote] “gonna be somebody.”[2] [end quote]  Shatavia was robbed of that dream by illegal aliens.

In July 2018 in my home town of Huntsville, Alabama, two drug cartel related illegal aliens took Oralia Mendoza and her 13-year-old granddaughter, Mariah Lopez, from their home in the dark of night. Oralia was stabbed to death while her teenage granddaughter, Mariah, was forced to watch. Later, and in order to eliminate a witness, the illegal alien drug cartel members then beheaded Mariah and abandoned her body in the woods. Mariah’s decaying body was not found for weeks. Mariah was a special needs student at Challenger Middle School. Her teachers described her as a [quote] “sweet little girl” who “had a lot of friends.” [3] [end quote]

I have a Washington staff member, Michaila Lindow, who well-remembers being baby-sat as a young child by family friend Tad Mattle.

In 2009 in Huntsville, Alabama, then 19-year-old Tad Mattle was driving home with his girlfriend from a church social. While stopped at a red light, an illegal alien who was fleeing the scene of yet another crime, and whose blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit, rear-ended Tad Mattle’s car. This illegal alien had three prior DUIs. Tad Mattle’s car exploded on impact, tragically killing Tad Mattle and his girlfriend.

Tad, the oldest of 3 children, enjoyed making music and served as percussion leader in the Grissom High School Marching Band. Three days before he was killed, Tad was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he planned to pursue an engineering degree.[4] Continue reading this article

Television Ad Spotlights Illegal Alien Crime

There’s an interesting anti-illegal-alien ad on television that I happened to see the other day: in it a bereaved mom describes the loss of her daughter when a drunk-driving illegal alien struck and killed her, and then he was released from jail despite his crime and status.

The appalling case was reported here in April 2016: Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears.

Below, illegal alien Edwin Mejia (left) killed Sarah Root (right), yet was allowed to post bond from jail and escape.

The organization America First Policies produced the video; its Youtube page is here.

Here’s a report on the video from The Hill:

Pro-Trump group to debut latest ad in $1M push for border wall, The Hill, November 23, 2018

A political nonprofit aiming to boost President Trump’s policies is set to debut a new ad on Monday calling on lawmakers to fund his long-promised wall along the U.S. southern border.

The $500,000 ad buy is the second from America First Policies this month, seeking to put pressure on Congress to get behind the border wall project. Together, the ads have cost the group $1 million so far.

The latest spot features Michelle Root, whose daughter was killed in 2016 in a car crash allegedly caused by an immigrant in the country without legal status. In the ad, Root suggests that building the border wall would prevent future tragedies, while alluding to the administration’s controversial former policy of separating migrant families at the border.

“My separation is permanent,” she says in the 30-second spot. “I want to see that wall built. I want to see stronger immigration laws. Make your voice heard. Call your congressman and your senators.”

The ad comes nearly three weeks after Democrats recaptured the House in the midterm elections, giving them a majority in the chamber for at least the next two years.

The party needed to gain at least 23 seats to recapture control of the House. So far, Democrats have picked up 38 seats.

The ad from America First Policies also comes as a deadline for lawmakers to fund the government is just two weeks away.

Trump wants Congress to approve at least $5 billion in funding for his border wall, while Senate Democrats have said that they will offer no more than $1.6 billion.  (Continues)

Chainsaw Attacker Illegal Alien Lived the American Dream Even after Being Deported 11 Times

The case of wife-slasher Alejandro Alvarez Villegas demands a closer look. He had a home in a decent neighborhood in Whittier, drove a Honda, supported a family and worked in construction. You can observe these details from a video of neighbor reactions following the crime in an NBC Los Angeles report:

But between his 11 deportations, Alvarez was racking up crimes and jail terms, as listed in the July 17 Orange County Register article, Man deported 11 times who’s suspected of attacking wife with chainsaw adds fuel to immigration fight:

Alvarez-Villegas has a criminal record beyond his immigration violations. In 2014 he was sentenced to 270 days in county jail after pleading no contest to a charge of driving with a blood alcohol content of at least 0.08 percent. In 2013, he was sentenced to 180 days for possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence. In 2010, there was another charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance but that charge was dropped and the case dismissed, according to court records.

Did the family travel to Hawaii or were they just playing dress-up?

Alejandro has had a great life from ripping off America, and he would still have it if he hadn’t attacked his wife with a chainsaw. In fact, he’s practically an advertisement for all the foreigners yearning for a better life to keep coming. There’s no wall, no universal e-Verify, no enforcement at all when an 11-time deportee jailbird can live the good life in America with no annoyance from the government.

And since Alvarez’ trial will take place in California, he will probably be found not guilty, just like Kate Steinle’s killer.

On Wednesday, Fox News’ Trace Gallagher opined that Alvarez will become the next face of illegal alien criminals. Let’s hope so, since the nation needs a wake-up call about enforcement.

TRACE GALLAGHER: When it comes to the debate about sanctuary cities in California’s immigration policies, this might be the highest profile case since the death of Kate Steinle a few years ago. The latest attack happened in Whittier about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles; 32 year-old Alejandro Alvarez is accused of attacking and badly wounding his wife with a chainsaw, spraying her blood all over himself and his three young boys.

Aside from the gruesome violence what makes this case notable is that since 2005 Alvarez had been deported 11 times and his criminal record goes well beyond deportation including convictions for drunk driving and drug possession. Immigration advocates fear this type of sensational case could be used as fodder to boost the president’s immigration policies and to increase the criticism of California for sheltering illegal immigrants including criminal aliens.

Here’s your new poster boy for open borders diversity, America.

Yet Another Deportation Sob Story, as Family Eyeballs Canada

Thursday’s San Jose Mercury News featured a front-page sob story, a genre that seems to be appearing more frequently for some odd reason.

There’s a drunk-driving, three-times-deported illegal alien father who has a citizen wife and three US kids: they’re deciding what to do now that daddy is facing a free ride back to Mexico via Uncle Sam. The hispanic mom Lourdes Barraza says, “There’s no way I could take my daughters to Mexico,” a country she “fears.” So why did she hook up with an illegal alien Mexican? Did she think Obama would be President For Life?

So Lourdes is considering lucky Canada as the family’s next squat. However, while illegal alien pests may imagine a snowy but warm welcome with lots of free stuff up north, the rescue impulse toward foreign moochers is wearing thin among the Canadian citizenry.

A Forbes article from March 20, 2017, Illegal Immigrants May Not Find Warm Welcome in Canada, cited a Reuters/Ipsos poll showing 48 percent of Canadian respondents thought the recent border crossers should be sent back.

So perhaps Lourdes should reconsider Mexico. Not everywhere is a crime hotspot, and the kiddies can absorb lots of Mexican diversity which we have been told is superior to our American culture.

Fearing deportation, one San Jose family looks to Canada, San Jose Mercury News, March 28, 2018

SAN JOSE — If her husband is deported, Lourdes Barraza is set on moving the entire family — to Canada. She can’t bear the thought of moving their girls to his native Mexico, a place she fears.

With a judge’s decision imminent on her husband Fernando Carrillo’s immigration case, Barraza wonders if she and her three daughters, all U.S. citizens, will have to leave the only country they’ve known to be with him.

But would Canada accept them?

The family is part of a wave of people — concerned about an uncertain future in the U.S. under the Trump administration’s hardline immigration policy — who are looking for refuge in other countries, especially Canada, flooding its border in staggering numbers with the hope of starting fresh.

But Canadian immigration officials — overwhelmed by the need for resources and an unprecedented backlog of asylum requests — are pumping the brakes and in recent months have warned people to think twice before rushing to cross the northern border.

“There’s no way I could take my daughters to Mexico,” said Barraza, 37, whose husband was arrested by immigration officers in October after dropping off one of their daughters at her San Jose daycare. “If it was just me and Fernando, we could go and start anywhere. But we’re talking about taking our kids out of the country that they were born in and that they’ve known. That’s my anxiety more than anything as a mother.”

So Barraza is prepared to leave San Jose and apply for permanent residency in Victoria, British Columbia, a place they only know through online searches as a safe, picturesque, affordable city with good schools on Canada’s Pacific coast.

In 2017, Canadian officials processed a total of 50,400 asylum claims, compared with 24,000 claims in 2016 and 16,100 in 2015, according to data from the Canadian government. By February of this year, officials had processed nearly 8,000 claims.

“It’s a massive increase of individuals seeking asylum in Canada since the start of Trump’s administration,” said Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think-tank in Washington, D.C.. “It’s a lot more about the rhetoric of the (Trump) administration than it is about its policy.”

Still, getting asylum in Canada is far from a guarantee, Pierce said.

People fleeing war and persecution in their home countries often look for safe haven in the U.S. and Canada and file for asylum. The Canadian government grants this protection to people who would be in significant danger — of torture or murder, for example — if they had to return home. But proving that is difficult, especially for Mexicans, who can’t always show they’re in grave danger if they return to Mexico.

Barraza said she doesn’t want her daughters exposed to corruption and violence in Mexico, which experienced a record high murder rate in 2017. But the family isn’t seeking asylum in Canada, just a chance to apply for permanent residency. In that case, potential immigrants must show they have certain professional skills that would make them assets to Canada’s economy, according to Rudolf Kischer, an immigration lawyer in Vancouver.

Carrillo — a cable TV installer with a drunken-driving conviction and prior deportations on his record — complicates things, he said, because Canada generally isn’t welcoming of people who were in the U.S. illegally.

Most U.S. expats who file asylum claims or who apply for residency in Canada face an uphill battle. “The unfortunate thing is I think a lot of those people are misinformed,” Kischer said.

Illegal Alien Crime Gets Front Page Coverage Because of NFL Victim

Most victims of illegal alien crime don’t get headline coverage because they aren’t famous. That is not the case with NFL athlete Edwin Jackson of the Colts whose face appeared on the Indianapolis Star on Monday:

On Tuesday, the paper used its front page to inform readers that the drunk driver was a twice-deported illegal alien from Guatemala, Manuel Orrego-Savala.

Of course there are thousands of ordinary Americans who have been killed, robbed, raped, kidnapped, stolen from and otherwise harmed by illegal aliens with much less attention. Friends of public safety were therefore grateful for the spotlight on these crime victims by candidate Trump during his campaign and also during his State of the Union speech.

In the current case, the Guatemalan now under arrest for the double death was deported twice, yet he returned again. According to the law, illegal re-entry is a felony, but that crime rarely receives the maximum punishment, namely prison. Candidate Trump promised to propose legislation establishing mandatory, minimum federal prison sentences for people who illegally re-enter the country which would certainly chill that crime.

It is tragic to see another young person die at the hands of a drunk-driving illegal alien, but hopefully there will be more attention paid to this continuing and preventable problem.

Suspect in Colts’ Edwin Jackson, Uber driver deaths previously convicted for drunk driving in California, Indianapolis Star, February 5, 2018

The man suspected of driving drunk and fatally striking an Indianapolis Colts player and his Uber driver early Sunday had twice been deported and was in the country illegally, police confirmed Monday.

Police say Manuel Orrego-Savala, 37, had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit when he hit and killed Edwin Jackson, a 26-year-old Colts linebacker, and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, Jackson’s Uber driver, around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Orrego-Savala is from Guatemala, according to Indiana State Police. He was first deported in 2007 and again in 2009 following arrests in San Francisco, according to a spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE officials say Orrego-Savala has a prior conviction in California for driving under the influence.

The circumstances of his Sunday arrest emerged as the latest case to draw in politicians and activists, particularly as President Donald Trump and Congress debate immigration changes as another budget deadline looms this week.

The video report below provides a good description of the crime:

Back Home Again, in Mexico

It’s December now, with Thanksgiving is in the rear-view mirror, so that means it’s time for the liberal media to start plopping out predictable illegal alien sob stories to warm up diverse cockles for the Christmas season.

The Los Angeles Times served up a three-episode series over the last few days, emphasizing the suffering of Mexicans who continue to break into the US with varying success.

Day two was a deportation story and therefore the most cheerful of the three. Plus, it notes that more Mexicans are leaving than coming.

Daddy got deported to Mexico and the wife and kiddies accompanied him — it must an example of those Mexican family values about which we used to hear so much.

Strangers in strange lands, Los Angeles Times, December 2, 2017

For decades, millions of Mexicans crossed into the U.S. in one of the largest mass migrations in modern history. But stricter immigration enforcement and new opportunities in Mexico have reversed the trend. Now, many are returning to towns like Malinalco, a rural community southwest of Mexico City. But coming home, it turns out, can be complicated.

As the cell door slammed behind him at an immigrant detention center in Detroit, Jose Roberto Tetatzin knew his life as an American was about to come to an abrupt end.

He thought about all the things he had acquired over 10 years of hard work in Michigan: the apartment full of furniture, the cool clothes, the cars.

And he thought about his daughters, 7-year-old Angela and newborn Lesli, both U.S. citizens who until that morning had such bright futures ahead of them.

Tetatzin knew he was going to be deported to his native Mexico. Now he and his partner, Judith Cristal Gudino, would have to decide what to do next.

Should the girls stay in the U.S. with Gudino, or should the whole family relocate to Mexico?

At night, he talked through the dilemma with other detained immigrant fathers in the same situation, men from Central America, Africa, even the Middle East. Sometimes, they cried together.

When Tetatzin was finally deported in 2015 in connection with a drunk driving conviction two years earlier, he was part of a large wave of Mexicans returning home.

More Mexicans have left the U.S. than have migrated to it in recent years, data show, a reversal of the largest flow of incoming migrants in modern U.S. history and a significant new chapter in the immigration narrative that has long dominated U.S. politics and culture.

Some have returned to reconnect with family or take advantage of new opportunities in Mexico, where a declining birth rate means less competition for jobs. Others have been forced out, either deported, like Tetatzin, or deciding to leave because, in Donald Trump’s America, they felt less welcome.

In any case, the trend has sparked both hope and concern in Mexico. Many view the large numbers coming back as brimming with potential. Many returnees bring home English and other skills learned in the U.S. But others in Mexico are concerned; they fear unwanted competition for jobs, or worry that deportees sent home for committing crimes could worsen the country’s already high levels of violence.

On the day of his deportation, as his parents picked him up at the airport in Mexico City and drove him home to Malinalco, Tetatzin saw a town full of fancy new hotels and restaurants that had appeared during his 10-year absence.

Republican Governor Turns Illinois into a Sanctuary State

What good is having a Republican governor when he oversees the transformation of his state into a sanctuary zone that protect illegal alien criminals? That’s what happened on Monday when Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation that prevents local police from doing their jobs if the suspect is an illegal alien.

An additional sanctuary state is not the way things are supposed to be going. The election of Donald Trump was due in part to his position as strong on law and borders. The American people want their immigration laws enforced.

In particular, the new law is an insult to crime victims of illegal aliens, like Brian McCann, whose brother Denny (pictured) was killed in Chicago in 2011 by a drunk-driving illegal alien Saul Chavez with priors who was not deported.

Worse, he was released on bail from Cook County Jail, as if an illegal alien causing a death in a hit-and-run was not a flight risk.

Brian has continued to pursue justice despite all the obstacles thrown up by open-borders forces in government. He spoke at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 2015 that was titled Oversight of the Administration’s Misdirected Immigration Enforcement Policies: Examining the Impact on Public Safety and Honoring the Victims.

A C-SPAN video of the hearing is available, and Brian tells the story of his brother’s death beginning at 54:00. His written testimony is here: BRIAN MCCANN, Testimony, U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Tuesday July 21, 2015

As Brian McCann says in the video below, sanctuary policy protecting illegal aliens endangers the safety of Americans.

MIKE TOBIN: Illinois with a Republican governor just became a sanctuary state. The bill was signed by Governor Bruce Rauner yesterday. It prohibits local police from making an arrest based on immigration status; it mandates that local police ignore immigration detainers, and says they can only hold an undocumented immigrant if a court order is obtained. Now members of the Hispanic community were on hand as the bill was signed into law, and there was representation from the Illinois law enforcement community. Rovernor Rauner said he consulted with local police before signing it.

GOV. RAUNER: They all said to me governor this is a reasonable compromise, it will help us do our jobs better, it will help us keep our communities safer.

TOBIN: Now the 2016 Illinois Republican party platform called for a reversal of sanctuary city policies but the Republican Party chair is supporting the governor with the signing of this bill because he said Governor Rauner’s negotiations turned a 40-page bill filled with restrictions for police into a two-page compromise.

SHANNON BREAM: Okay, I imagine though, Mike, that a Republican governor signing a bill like this has run into some opposition.

TOBIN: Lots of opposition: starting with Brian McCann. Brian McCain’s brother Dennis was killed by a drunk driver in 2011. That drunk driver Saul Chavez was in the country illegally. An immigration order was was filed, but that immigration order was ignored due to the policies of Cook County. Saul Chavez made bail, then fled to Mexico.

BRIAN MCCANN: The insult and injury continues because they know better. This is the issue of safety; this is safety. The American citizens are less safe with these sanctuary city policies. It’s as plain as night and day.

TOBIN: Now downstate Republican Senator Kyle McCarter told me yesterday that the governor just alienated his base in the part of this state that supported Donald Trump. In fact, he said this Republican governor is the best governor Democrats ever had.
