Coren [...]]]> The interview below is the most honesty about Islam I can recall seeing on Fox News. Sun TV host Michael Coren appeared on Monday to comment on the guilty verdict in the honor killing trial of an Afghan father, wife and son who murdered three daughters and a polygamous wife #2 for becoming too westernized.

Coren pointed out that the police and media are afraid to connect such crimes with Islam, and made the distinction that honor killings are not some sort of domestic violence. He called honor killing “intrinsic to Islam” and noted that the “vast majority occur within the context of the Muslim faith.” Furthermore, honor killings are not even a crime in many Muslim countries.

Also noteworthy, Coren described how Muslims are permitted to lie to infidels in order to protect Islam. What a religion. How much more Islamic diversity can the West stand?

The worst is the murder of insufficiently subservient women (aka honor killing), a practice which is accepted in Islamic nations, but not so much in America and Europe.

For some reason, Muslim immigrants think they can behave as if they were back in their dar al-Islam backwater. Didn’t they read the immigration brochure and the part about obeying US laws?

Stubborn foreign misogynists should consult Islamo-jailbirds who learned the cost of their actions, like wife beheader Muzzammil Hassan and daughter killer Faleh Almaleki. Both are doing hard time for importing Islamic savagery to America.

Say, maybe we would be better off without Muslim immigration and the objectionable diversity they bring.

Islamic ‘Honor Violence’ Rising in the West, CBN, January 4, 2012

BARCELONA, LONDON, and PARIS – As Muslims migrate to the West, and more Muslim young people adopt Western ways, honor violence is increasing.

Warning: this report contains some disturbing scenes that should not be viewed by children.

• A Canadian woman was strangled by her father because she refused to wear a headscarf.

• An Italian had her throat slit by her dad while she was held down by three uncles.

• An American woman was run over by her father in his Jeep Cherokee.

• Two sisters were shot by their father in a New York taxi.

They were all the victims of honor violence. They may have defied the wishes of their parents, or adopted Western ways, or tried to leave Islam.

They did something that, in the eyes of their families, brought shame and dishonor.

So they were killed. Many were tortured first.

Honor Killing on the Rise

The precise number of honor attacks worldwide is unknown because many are not reported, or are reported as accidents or suicides. But one new report said 3,000 honor attacks were committed in Britain last year alone.

Norwegian activist Hege Storhaug left journalism to devote her life to helping the victims of honor violence after doing a story about a Norwegian girl who was forced to marry her cousin from Pakistan.

“I was astonished when she said, ‘My parents were willing to kill me if I didn’t enter this marriage, to protect their own honor,” Storhaug said.

Storhaug showed us graphic photos of Pakistani women who had acid thrown in their faces by their husbands’ family because they did not bring a big enough dowry to the marriage.

Storhaug said the families then typically say the woman had been burned on a hot stove:

“A mother-in-law was sitting at the bedside, guarding the tongue of the young woman so she didn’t tell the truth about how she was burned, and it was the family who did it,” she explained. “And the faces of those mothers-in-law…there was no empathy, no compassion.”

Women in Danger

Although honor violence is sometimes committed by Hindus and Sikhs, it is usually a Muslim on Muslim crime. One study found that 91 percent of honor killings were committed by Muslims.

Women who break with traditional Islam often face grave danger:

CBN News interviewed one young woman who came to study in Paris after growing up in a Muslim nation.

Because she rejected Islam and Islamic rules about women, she told us that the only way she could ever safely return to her homeland is if she were to pretend to be a traditional, submissive Muslim woman.

“For them a person who goes out of the sect or the community or the group is a traitor. I would be safe if I played the game,” she explained.

“You have to apologize for everything and say, ‘Yes, I am coming back to slavery. I want to be a slave again. I am a slave and happy to be a slave,’” she said. “This is how it works.”

Activist Gina Khan in Britain has been a national spokeswoman against honor violence and Islamic radicalism. Khan left an abusive arranged marriage and had to move to a secret location because of threats.

“You’re at risk, if you speak out,” Khan said. “You can be attacked. I’m aware of that. But there comes a time when silence becomes a guilt, a sin.”

Leaving Islam, Losing All

When a Muslim decides to leave Islam, the situation can range from complicated to deadly. Some are so burned out on the idea of “God” that they want nothing to do with religion for the rest of their lives.

At a Spanish church for ex-Muslims, the congregation is small, in part, because the pastor says there is so much social control within Muslim communities in Europe that leaving Islam simply is not an option many Muslims take seriously.

The pastor, who did not want his identity revealed, said many Muslims fear losing everything if they convert to Christianity.

He said the mentality is: “‘I have my community and I have to integrate and belong, and I cannot leave that.’

“So I’ve found that they don’t have in their minds the option of being Christians,” he said.

No Happy Life

And honor violence is only a part of the enormous control that Islamic belief exerts over the minds of women and young people.

After years of Western governments denying that honor violence was a problem, laws are now being passed to stop it.

But within Muslim communities in Europe and America, women often still do not have full rights and their lives are still at risk.

The young former Muslim woman in Paris told us that in Islam, “Women are treated as half human. Legally speaking they are minors their whole life.”

But are those women still somehow happy?

“No,”she said. “Have you seen their faces? They are miserable. When you don’t live in freedom you are miserable.”

Sex-selection abortions are used to dispose of unwanted girls, a common practice in Asia, where [...]]]> It’s not news that immigrants from misogynous societies bring their retro attitudes and customs with them to America. In 2001, the New York Times reported on sex-selection abortion among Indians and Chinese immigrants: Clinics’ Pitch to Indian Émigrés: It’s a Boy.

Sex-selection abortions are used to dispose of unwanted girls, a common practice in Asia, where females are despised, even in the 21st century. A recent estimate of the accumulation is stunning: Asia’s 163 Million Missing Girls (Daily Beast, June 21).

Rep. Trent Franks has picked up on the issue as a thinly veiled way to stop all abortions. As reported by Fox News (Abortion Battle Heats Up on the Hill), he made an illogical argument:

He points to a finding by the Guttmacher Institute: “…the abortion rate for black women is almost five times that for white women.” Franks also believes that sex-selection abortions are on the rise in the U.S. and notes a Zogby International poll that found 86 percent of those surveyed believed gender-based abortion choices should be illegal.

Black women are not choosing to abort girls, so what they are doing is NOT sex-selection abortion. The Fox report did not mention the immigration cause at all, and was very misleading. The AP article at least discussed the extreme Asian cultural preference for boys, although without the dreaded “I” word.

If Trent Franks objected to just sex-selection abortion (rather than all abortion), he should have proposed legislation to end immigration from China and India, the two biggest practitioners. They are the tribes that have brought this barbarity to America, where women fought for 70 years just to get the vote and now have equal opportunity under the law. Importing millions who regard women as lesser beings does not bode well for women’s rights and safety in the diverse future.

Sex-Selective Abortions Come Home, By Steven W. Mosher, National Review, December 6, 2011

“There is such a thing as too many daughters, but not too many sons,” Dr. Sunita Puri was told by the Asian-Indian women she was interviewing.

The physician, who practices in the Bay Area, wanted to find out why so many immigrant Indian women in the United States were so eager to find out the sex of their unborn children, and why so many of them choose abortion when they found out they were carrying a girl.

What she discovered over the course of 65 interviews conducted over several years profoundly shocked her. Fully 89 percent of the women carrying girls opted for an abortion, and nearly half had previously aborted girls.

Puri’s report, published in Social Science and Medicine this last April, makes for grim reading. Women told Puri of their guilt over their sex-selection abortions, how they felt that they were unable to “save” their daughters. Even the women who turned out to be carrying boys this time around could not shake their remorse over having earlier aborted daughters in this deadly game of reproductive roulette.

They also made clear that they were not free actors when it came to reproductive “choice.” Many, when it was learned that they were carrying girls, became the victims of family violence. Some — in an effort to make them miscarry — had been slapped and shoved around by angry husbands and in-laws, or even kicked in the stomach. Others were denied food, water, and rest in order to coerce them into aborting their unwanted girl babies.

Whether such brutality is common is an open question. That sex-selective abortion is widely practiced among certain Asian-American communities is not.

Jason Abrevaya of the University of Texas analyzed U.S. birth data and found unusually high boy-birth percentages after 1980 among later children (most notably third and fourth children) born to Chinese and Asian-Indian mothers.

Moreover, using maternally linked data from California, he found that Asian-Indian mothers are significantly more likely both to have a terminated pregnancy and to give birth to a son when they have previously only given birth to girls.

Columbia University economists Douglas Almond and Lena Edlund also found clear evidence of sex-selective abortions in what they called “son-biased sex ratios,” that is, a higher ratio of boys to girls than would occur in nature. Looking at the sex ratio at birth among U.S.-born children of Chinese, Korean, and Asian-Indian parents, they found that first-borns showed normal sex ratios at birth. But if the first child was a girl, the sex ratio jumped to 117, and if the first two children were girls, then the sex ratio jumped to 151. That is to say, for every 151 boys, there were only 100 hundred surviving girls. The rest had been eliminated.

This is not just misogyny; it is misogyny that kills.

Racism kills as well, to judge from the fact that the abortion rate among blacks is about five times higher than the American average. Blacks are only 12 percent of the population but have 37 percent of the abortions. This suggests that their abortions, too, are more than just a matter of personal choice.

We have been told by the self-described “pro-choice” movement that women who go in for abortions do so because they (not their husbands, in-laws, or kinship group) have decided not to continue their pregnancies. If this turns out not to be true, and others bend you to their prejudices where gender and race are concerned, then the pro-choice argument evaporates.

What we are then left with is discrimination, pure and blatant, on the basis of sex and race. If the child is male or white, it will likely live. If the child is female or black, it may die.

The obvious solution, according to Arizona congressman Trent Franks (Ariz.) is to ban sex- and race-selective abortion. This week he introduced a bill, called the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, or PreNDA for short, to do just that.

The bill declares that an abortion done for reasons of sex or race selection is a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and prohibits doctors from carrying out such abortions. Those who coerce women into a sex- or race-based abortion can be sued by their victims, and organizations that solicit or accept funds to perform such abortions will be in violation of the law.

This reasonable effort to reign in discriminatory abortions has been mischaracterized by the National Organization of Women as an “attempt to restrict healthcare for women of color.”

What it is really about is allowing Indian, Chinese, Korean, and other women the freedom to have the babies of their choosing. Isn’t that what “reproductive choice” is supposed to be all about?

A recent report shows that harassment and violence against women is endemic throughout Mexican society.

The Pew Hispanic Center reported, “The current Mexican share of all foreign born living in the U.S. — 32% — is the highest concentration of immigrants to the U.S. from a single country since the late 19th century.” The presence of those 13+ million Mexicans is absolutely detrimental for the cause of women’s safety and equality in this country. In fact, it would be hard to choose a worse group of immigrants for America to admit.

Six out of every 10 Mexican women over the age of 15 have been the victims of gender violence that has left them with physical and mental traumas, among other ill effects, Mexico’s independent National Human Rights Commission, or CNDH, said.

As part of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the CNDH said Friday that to help end gender violence it is currently preparing a diagnosis of femicides and other vicious crimes against Mexican women.

Other effects of gender violence include “sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and births, educational and social backwardness, poverty and economic dependence, unequal distribution of food in the home, as well as inequality in the workplace and the professions,” the organization said.

The CNDH insisted on the need for society as a whole to take part in preventing conduct that will prejudice women’s well-being and retard their development, which is why it has promoted various ways of raising awareness among authorities so they notice and come to the aid of female victims of crime and violence.

It also recalled that the constitutional reform enacted in June, and which includes principles established by international agreements on human rights, will allow authorities to strengthen measures for reducing and eliminating violence against women.

The CNDH said that this year 201 women are known to have gone missing in the country, a figure far above the 17 cases registered last year.

The latest case registered by the organization was that of a mother who recently filed a complaint following the disappearance of her daughter in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua state, a city where so-called “femicides” have been a constantly repeated tragedy for several years.

The commission said that the case will be investigated through the National Information System for Missing Persons and Unidentified Fatalities, while the CNDH will determine whether or not there were “human-rights violations.”

Figures from Mexico’s National Citizens’ Femicide Watch show that between January 2009 and June 2010 there were 810 femicides in Mexico “motivated by gender hate and discrimination.” EFE

Not all cultures are [...]]]> Could you imagine naming a baby Garbage or Reject? That choice would be incomprehesible in the United States, but apparently it is not unusual in India for disappointed parents who wanted a son to name a daughter “Unwanted.”

Below, India’s gender disparity is increasing because parents still prefer sons and don’t want girls.

Not all cultures are morally equal, certainly where women and girls are concerned. India is one of the worst in a tough worldwide field of misogynist diversity. (See my 2007 article Dogs, Frogs and Dalits: the Indian Model Minority Has a Dark Side.)

However a local Indian government is commendably trying to redress some of the society’s deeply imbued misogyny by permitting girls named “Unwanted” to choose a friendlier name.

More than 200 Indian girls whose names mean “unwanted” in Hindi have chosen new names for a fresh start in life.

A central Indian district held a renaming ceremony Saturday that it hopes will give the girls new dignity and help fight widespread gender discrimination that gives India a skewed gender ratio, with far more boys than girls.

The 285 girls — wearing their best outfits with barrettes, braids and bows in their hair — lined up to receive certificates with their new names along with small flower bouquets from Satara district officials in Maharashtra state.

In shedding names like “Nakusa” or “Nakushi,” which mean “unwanted” in Hindi, some girls chose to name themselves after Bollywood stars such as “Aishwarya” or Hindu goddesses like “Savitri.” Some just wanted traditional names with happier meanings, such as “Vaishali,” or “prosperous, beautiful and good.”

“Now in school, my classmates and friends will be calling me this new name, and that makes me very happy,” said a 15-year-old girl who had been named Nakusa by a grandfather disappointed by her birth. She chose the new name “Ashmita,” which means “very tough” or “rock hard” in Hindi.

The plight of girls in India came to a focus after this year’s census showed the nation’s sex ratio had dropped over the past decade from 927 girls for every 1,000 boys under the age of 6 to 914.

Maharashtra state’s ratio is well below that, with just 883 girls for every 1,000 boys — down from 913 a decade ago. In the district of Satara, it is even lower, at 881.

Such ratios are the result of abortions of female fetuses, or just sheer neglect leading to a higher death rate among girls. The problem is so serious in India that hospitals are legally banned from revealing the gender of an unborn fetus in order to prevent sex-selective abortions, though evidence suggests the information gets out.

Part of the reason Indians favor sons is the enormous expense of marrying off girls. Families often go into debt arranging marriages and paying for elaborate dowries. A boy, on the other hand, will one day bring home a bride and dowry. Hindu custom also dictates that only sons can light their parents’ funeral pyres.

Over the years, and again now, efforts have been made to fight the discrimination.
“Nakusa is a very negative name as far as female discrimination is concerned,” said Satara district health officer Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, who came up with the idea for the renaming ceremony.

Other incentives, announced by federal or state governments every few years, include free meals and free education to encourage people to take care of their girls, and even cash bonuses for families with girls who graduate from high school.

Activists say the name “unwanted,” which is widely given to girls across India, gives them the feeling they are worthless and a burden.

“When the child thinks about it, you know, ‘My mom, my dad, and all my relatives and society call me unwanted,’ she will feel very bad and depressed,” said Sudha Kankaria of the organization Save the Girl Child. But giving these girls new names is only the beginning, she said.

“We have to take care of the girls, their education and even financial and social security, or again the cycle is going to repeat,” she said.

But there is precious little “tackling” going on. A handful of Norwegian women are speaking out about the danger to women’s rights and safety from Islamic culture, but they are condemned by the majority liberal society for saying unkind things about Muslims. But there is precious little “tackling” going on. A handful of Norwegian women are speaking out about the danger to women’s rights and safety from Islamic culture, but they are condemned by the majority liberal society for saying unkind things about Muslims. Meanwhile blonde Norwegian women dye their hair black and travel in groups for safety.

One of the outspoken women interviewed by Dale Hurd is Hege Storhaug, about whom I blogged earlier this summer. She could probably be called a recovering liberal, given her contact with Muslim behavior which unravelled her faith in multiculturalism.

Once again, CBN leads the way among broadcasters for fearlessly telling the truth about Islam and the effects of hostile Muslims in Western societies. This brief piece is far superior to the recent special on honor killing on Fox which completely avoided the subject of Islamic misogyny.

We in America would be wise to observe carefully the failed European experience with Muslim immigration. As Dutch political leader Geert Wilders has said, “Islamism and democracy are incompatible. The more Islam we have, the more freedom we will lose.”

America needs to stop Muslim immigration before it’s too late.

Culture Crisis: Norway Tackles Muslim Immigration, CBN News, By Dale Hurd, August 18, 2011

OSLO, Norway — It’s been almost a month since innocent Norwegians were killed by a lunatic obsessed with the threat of Islam.

But the terrible tragedy has not stopped civil debate in Norway over the impact of Muslim immigration.

Several weeks before the massacre in Norway, CBN News travelled to Oslo to investigate reports that that nation’s experiment with Muslim immigration and multiculturalism had gone terribly wrong, that Muslim radicalism was growing along with violence and intimidation against non-Muslims.

Islamists Target Women
In the wake of the killings, some on Norway’s political left call the fear of Islamization a “conspiracy theory.”

However, there are real victims – and they are mostly Norway’s women. Norway has never faced such problems before.

Even though Norway is a democracy, some Norwegian women do not have full rights. They are denied them by their families, and they live in fear for their lives.

At the Red Cross office in Oslo, Monica Berge-Tukh and Anne Marte Stifjeld take calls from Norwegian girls who face honor violence, forced marriage or genital mutilation.

“We get calls from girls and we really get a bad feeling in our stomach that something is seriously wrong,” Berge-Tukh told CBN News. “Most of the girls tell us ‘I never thought about it’ or ‘I never thought it would happen because I live in Norway.’ ”

They not only live in Norway but were born in Norway and speak Norwegian. Still, their rights are not protected and they are controlled by their families.

“A lot of them have been threatened and beaten,” Berge-Tukh explained. “They tell us about a lot of social control, so when they  become like 10 or 12 years old (their family members) start following her to school just to control that she is not having any contact with boys because ‘good girls don’t do that.’”

An Eye-Opening Encounter
Hege Storhaug was a self-described “naïve left-wing journalist” when an encounter with an immigrant woman changed her life and her career.
  
”In 1992, as a journalist, I met a young Norwegian born Pakistani woman, only 18 years old. And she had been married at gunpoint in Pakistan to her second cousin,” Storhaug recalled.

“I was so shocked when she said ‘My parents were willing to kill me if I didn’t enter into this marriage, to protect their own honor,’” she said.

Storhaug now works full-time to protect immigrant women and girls from forced marriage, genital mutilation and honor violence.

Women, she says, have been abandoned by the Norwegian government and deprived of their rights as citizens – like four Norwegian girls all sent to Gambia for genital mutilation.

“Their parents just dumped them in Gambia, their country of origin where the girls, ages 3-9, were all genitally mutilated,” Storhaug told CBN News. “They have been stripped of the possibility to become a full member of this society, and we have allowed it, we have allowed it.”

Storhaug, who works on behalf of the rights of women, has been called a “racist” and “Islamophobe” by the some on the left in Norway.

Rape Epidemic
Something else that Muslim immigration appears to have brought to Norway is what some here call “a rape epidemic.”

Recent police statistics showed that in the capital city of Oslo, 100 percent of assault rapes between strangers were committed by immigrant, non-Western males. And nine out of 10 of their victims were native Norwegian women.

To protect themselves, some blonde Norwegian women have reportedly begun dying their hair black, and many travel only in groups.

Kristin Spitznogle is a therapist who has counseled some of the rape victims.

“These men they do not attack their own,” she noted. “They attack Norwegian women and a liberal culture they will not accept.”

Non-Muslims ‘Fair Game’
And Spitznogle has been attacked in the Norwegian media for saying what many will not: that the assault rape problem is primarily Muslim men raping non-Muslim women. And any woman who does not dress modestly and wear the Muslim headscarf could be considered by some Muslim men to be “fair game.”

“For some the hijab is a symbolic marker that separates the submissive proper Muslim women from what they see as the Norwegian ‘whores.’ When I say ‘whores,’ I’m really just referring to their own words. This is what they told journalists.”

Spitznogle says Norway’s left-wing establishment has engaged in blaming the rape victims because the whole notion that Islamic culture is dangerous to women is very politically incorrect here.

Hanne Herland is author of the bestselling book Alarm! Thoughts on a Culture in Crisis. 

”Some of them are excellent, but not all values from Islamic countries are excellent to bring into the European society,” Herland warned. “And I think that many times Norwegians fear speaking about that for fear of being called a racist.”

Trouble on the Horizon?
But it’s hard to call a Muslim immigrant a racist for speaking out against his fellow Muslims.

Walid al-Kubaisi is a respected Norwegian journalist and a Muslim who came from Iraq.  He is concerned about radical Islamic elements within an otherwise law abiding Muslim community.

“We have a problem,” he said emphatically. “All deny. Nobody says that we have a big problem. But this will give a bad result in the future.”

As in other European cities, parts of Oslo are now Muslim zones and may be subject to Sharia law or to the rule of local imams.

“Most of the areas where the Muslim is the majority, the Norwegian feels that they are not in their country, that they’re not in Norway. They feel like a Muslim country,” al-Kubaisi said.

When CBN News interviewed al-Kubaisi in June, no one had any idea that a crazed gunman would start killing people over the issue of Muslim immigration.  But al-Kubaisi made what now feels like a chilling prediction – a backlash against immigrants.

“Kubaisi equals clash of civilizations,” he said. “It will happen. I am not a prophet, but something will happen. I don’t know. But I feel it.

Some on the left in Europe are using the Oslo massacre to stifle criticism of Islam. But not talking about it won’t make Norway’s problem go away.

Being a Muslim [...]]]> In March 2010, a immigrant from Morocco, Mbarek Lafrem (pictured), severely beat a nurse because she wouldn’t dance with him in a Manhattan bar. He followed her into the women’s restroom where he attempted to rape her and fractured her skull, eye socket, nose and jaw and cut her forehead, requiring 50 stitches.

Being a Muslim man, he blamed the woman for trying to defend herself — in the women’s restroom. His culture led him to regard any American woman behaving as a free individual was a prostitute and therefore not entitled to refuse him.

Many of the headlines avoided the thug’s cultural background. One of the worst was a two-fer insult to Keystone state construction workers from the New York Daily News: “Pennsylvania hardhat pleads guilty in beating of young nurse”.

Muslim immigration diversity is bad for all Americans, but it’s really bad news for women.

Man admits guilt in March 2010 nightclub sex attack, Associated Press, July 18, 2011

A construction worker admitted Monday that he beat a woman unconscious and tried to molest her in a bar bathroom, an attack she said occurred after she wouldn’t dance with him.

Mbarek Lafrem said nothing beyond brief answers to a judge’s questions as he pleaded guilty to assault and attempted sexual abuse. The March 2010 attack left the woman bloodied, half-undressed and wedged between a toilet and a bathroom stall divider in a sprawling midtown Manhattan lounge.

Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Ronald Zweibel promised Lafrem a 16-year prison term at his sentencing, set for Sept. 1. Prosecutors had asked for 20 years.

“He felt it was the right thing to do at this juncture,” Lafrem’s lawyer, Yana A. Roy, said after court.

Born in Morocco, the 32-year-old Lafrem told police he came to the United States in 2004. He was living in Norwood, Pa., but staying at a Manhattan hotel for a metal work job when he crossed paths with the woman, a nurse who was then 29, at Social. The three-story bar is near Manhattan’s theater district and the southern edge of Central Park.

“The attack on this woman was quick and brutal,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a statement Monday.

Lafrem twirled the woman briefly on the dance floor, but then she moved away and went to a women’s restroom on the second floor, authorities said.

Lafrem followed her, marched into a stall and hit her in the face when she screamed at him, prosecutors said.

She was found unconscious, with her pants inside-out and nearly pulled off, Assistant District Attorney Shanda Strain said. The woman had a broken jaw, broken eye socket and skull fractures, among other injuries, prosecutors said.

The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify people who report being sexually assaulted unless they agree to be named.

Lafrem fled after the attack, but co-workers called police after recognizing him in a surveillance video police released of a man walking down the street shortly after the attack, police said. Some of the woman’s blood was found in Lafrem’s hotel room, apparently because he’d had it on his clothing, prosecutors said.

Lafrem initially told police he went into the women’s bathroom by accident and threw her to the floor after she lashed out at him.

The symptoms are appalling: teacher Gary Smith was beaten severely by Muslims for teaching religious studies to girls, and Muslims filled the Tower Hamlets with stickers declaring it a “gay free zone.” Unveiled women there have been threatened with death.

As Parapundit (Randall Parker) has remarked, “Muslims are nature’s way of telling us that multiculturalism is a really bad idea.”

Let me add my axiom: “You can have (substantial) Islamic immigration or you can have women’s equality, but not both.”

Victims say that officers in the borough of Tower Hamlets have ignored or downplayed outbreaks of hate crime, and suppressed evidence implicating Muslims in them, because they fear being accused of racism.

The claims come as four Tower Hamlets Muslims were jailed for at least 19 years for attacking a local white teacher who gave religious studies lessons to Muslim girls.

The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered more than a dozen other cases in Tower Hamlets where both Muslims and non-Muslims have been threatened or beaten for behaviour deemed to breach fundamentalist “Islamic norms.”

One victim, Mohammed Monzur Rahman, said he was left partially blind and with a dislocated shoulder after being attacked by a mob in Cannon Street Road, Shadwell, for smoking during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last year.

“Two guys stopped me in the street and asked me why I was smoking,” he said. “I just carried on, and before I knew another dozen guys came and jumped me. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in hospital.”

“He reported it to the police and they just said they couldn’t track anyone down and there were no witnesses,” said Ansar Ahmed Ullah, a local anti-extremism campaigner who has advised Mr Rahman. “But there is CCTV in that street and it is lined with shops and people.”

Teachers in several local schools have told The Sunday Telegraph that they feel “under pressure” from local Muslim extremists, who have mounted campaigns through both parents and pupils – and, in one case, through another teacher – to enforce the compulsory wearing of the veil for Muslim girls. “It was totally orchestrated,” said one teacher. “The atmosphere became extremely unpleasant for a while, with constant verbal aggression from both the children and some parents against the head over this issue.”

One teacher at the Bigland Green primary school, Nicholas Kafouris, last year took the council to an employment tribunal, saying he was forced out of his job for complaining that Muslim pupils were engaging in racist and anti-Semitic bullying and saying they supported terrorism. Mr Kafouris lost his case, though the school did admit that insufficient action had been taken against the behaviour of some pupils. The number of assaults on teachers in Tower Hamlets resulting in exclusions has more than doubled from 190 in 2007/8 to 383 in 2008/9, the latest available year, though not all are necessarily race-related.

Tower Hamlets’ gay community has become a particular target of extremists. Homophobic crimes in the borough have risen by 80 per cent since 2007/8, and by 21 per cent over the last year, a period when there was a slight drop in London as a whole.

Last year, a mob of 30 young Muslims stormed a local gay pub, the George and Dragon, beating and abusing patrons. Many customers of the pub told The Sunday Telegraph that they have been attacked and harassed by local Muslim youths. In 2008 a 20-year-old student, Oli Hemsley, was left permanently paralysed after an attack by a group of young Muslims outside the pub. Only one of his assailants has been caught and jailed.

Even during meetings of the local council, prominent supporters of Tower Hamlets’ controversial directly-elected mayor, Lutfur Rahman – dropped by the Labour Party for his links to Islamic fundamentalism – have persistently targeted gay councillors with homophobic abuse and intimidation from the public gallery.

The Labour leader, Josh Peck, was attacked with animal noises and cries of “Unnatural acts! Unnatural acts!” when he rose to speak. The Conservative leader, Peter Golds, was repeatedly heckled as “Mrs Golds” and a “poofter”.

Mr Golds said: “If that happened in a football stadium, arrests would have taken place. I have complained, twice, to the police, and have heard nothing. A Labour colleague waited three hours at the police station before being told that nothing would be done. The police are afraid of being accused of Islamophobia. Another Labour councillor said that the Met is now the reverse of what it must have been like in the 1970s, with a complete lack of interest when white people make complaints of harassment and hatred.”

In February this year, dozens of stickers appeared across Tower Hamlets quoting the Koran, declaring the borough a “gay-free zone” and stating that “verily Allah is severe in punishment.”

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that during a routine stop-and-search at the time police found a young Muslim man with a number of the stickers in his possession. He was released without charge on the advice of the Crown Prosecution Service. Police also had CCTV images of a second unidentified Muslim youth posting the stickers at a local railway station, but refused to release the pictures for several weeks.

Peter Tatchell, the gay human rights campaigner, said: “The police said no-one was allowed to talk publicly about this because they didn’t want to upset the Muslim community. We’ve made very clear the difference between the Muslim community as a whole and these particular fundamentalists, and the fact that the police wouldn’t publicly say what they knew was an absolute disgrace.”

When the CCTV footage was finally released, in early April, the culprit was quickly identified as 18-year-old Mohammed Hasnath, who last week pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was fined £100. Jack Gilbert, of the Rainbow Hamlets gay group, said a more serious charge should have been brought. “The vast majority of the community saw the material as threatening, but the police were not willing to accept it as threatening,” he said.

Hasnath’s “interests” on his Facebook page include Khalid Yasin, a hate preacher who describes Jews as “filth” and teaches that homosexuals must be killed. Yasin has spoken at least four times since 2007 at the East London Mosque, Tower Hamlets’ most prominent Muslim institution. Although the mosque claims to be against extremism, discrimination, and violence, it has hosted dozens of hate, extremist or terrorist preachers and also hosted a “Spot The Fag” contest.

In the same week that it issued a press release condemning the anti-gay stickers, the mosque was also due to host a “gala dinner” with Uthman Lateef, a homophobic hate preacher.

The mosque is controlled by a fundamentalist group, the Islamic Forum of Europe, which says that it is dedicated to changing the “very infrastructure of society, its institutions, its culture, its political order and its creed … from ignorance to Islam.”

The IFE’s community affairs co-ordinator, Azad Ali, is chairman of the Muslim Safety Forum, an organisation officially recognised by the Met as its “principal [liaison] body in relation to Muslim community safety.” Mr Golds said: “This relationship may explain the police’s feebleness.” The IFE also has close links to the Tower Hamlets mayor, Mr Rahman.

There is no suggestion that any mosque official has been personally involved in any act of violence or intimidation. However, in an email obtained by The Sunday Telegraph, one IFE activist, Abu Talha, used the name of the group to threaten a local Muslim woman who ran a dating agency.

“I am asking you kindly to stop these activities as it goes against the teachings of Islam,” he wrote. “Let me remind you that I have a huge network of brothers and sisters who would be willing to help me take this further…If by tomorrow you haven’t changed your mind … then the campaign will begin.” The dating agency has now closed and the woman has left the area.

Mr Ahmed Ullah said: “There has been a gradual increase in these kinds of attacks, that’s for sure.” A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “When any allegation of crime is made to us, we investigate appropriately. We will always take action against hate crime in accordance with, and within the confines of, the law.”
