Candidate Gingrich thinks it would be a swell idea to have the DREAM Act cover only illegal aliens who sign up for the military, not persons who attend college. It would be the sort of “earned citizenship” program that politicians of both parties like way too much.

However, not all the diverse recruits are friendlies.

Consider a recent criminal case which came to resolution on Thursday. An ex-Marine pleaded guilty to the crime of shooting up the Pentagon causing over $100K in damage, which will likely get him sentenced to 25 years in prison. He managed to produce a film of himself firing the shots while he yelled “Allah Ackbar.”

The shooter, Yonathan Melaku (pictured), was an Ethiopian who came here as a child and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in Franconia, Virginia. He had plenty of opportunity to assimilate, but chose the path of the enemy.

Melaku is not the first diverse military guy to go bad by a long shot. Surely the worst is the accused mass murderer of Fort Hood, Major Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who benefited from the idea that in the modern military, diversity is among the top values.

Another noteworthy aspect to this case is the media’s studied stupidity about the reason for the crime. The Washington Post titled a Jan 26 article, “Motive of shooter who targeted military sites is unclear”. The piece even mentions the perp shouting “Allahu Akbar!”

Apparently the press prefers mental illness as an explanation. An alien culture with 1400 years of warfare against outsiders doesn’t suit their multicultural ideology.

Accused Pentagon shooter Melaku pleads guilty, Associated Press, January 26, 2012

An ex-Marine from Virginia pleaded guilty Thursday and has agreed to serve a 25-year prison sentence on charges that he fired a series of overnight pot shots in 2010 at the Pentagon, the Marine Corps museum in Quantico and other military targets as part of what prosecutors called a campaign to strike fear throughout the region.

Prosecutors also revealed Thursday new details about Yonathan Melaku’s intended next target: Arlington National Cemetery, where he was arrested before he was able to carry out a plan to deface gravestones there.

As part of Thursday’s plea deal, Melaku, 24, of Alexandria, pleaded guilty to destruction of U.S. property, use of a firearm in an act of violence and intention to injure a veterans’ memorial, namely the cemetery. Prosecutors and Melaku’s lawyer agreed to a 25-year sentence as part of the deal, and U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee said he would agree to the sentence as well.

Formal sentencing was delayed until April so a pre-sentence report can be prepared and Melaku’s lawyer can request a mental-health evaluation for his client.

Prosecutors also released a video, made by Melaku, that was part of the evidence in the case, in which Melaku is seen firing shots at the National Museum of the Marine Corps as he drives by from I-95, where the museum is easily visible. In the video, Melaku shouts “God is Great!” in Arabic and talks about targeting the museum and “turning it off permanently.”

The overnight shootings in October and November of 2010 twice targeted the Marine Corps museum and once each targeted the Pentagon and military recruiting stations in Woodbridge and Chantilly.

The shootings raised a high level of concerns, prompting authorities to suspect they were related and conducted by an individual with a grievance against the military in general or the Marines specifically.

But the shootings went unsolved until this summer, when Melaku — a naturalized U.S. citizen from Ethiopia — was spotted by police on Fort Myer and ran off, leaving a backpack behind. He was later caught and arrested at Arlington National Cemetery. The incident prompted a massive security scare in and around the Pentagon.

In the backpack police found spent shell casings; five pounds of ammonium nitrate, a common material in homemade explosives; two cans of spray paint; and a notebook in Arabic that contained references to Osama bin Laden, the Taliban and the “path to jihad.”

Melaku eventually admitted to authorities that he planned to desecrate grave markers in the cemetery by spraying Arabic graffiti on them, and to deliberately leave the ammonium nitrate behind.

Nobody was hurt in any of the incidents, but Melaku has been ordered to make $111,000 in restitution for the damage he caused to the buildings, including the Pentagon.

Though no one was hurt, FBI spokeswoman Jacqueline Maguire called the case serious, and credited investigators for arresting Melaku before he did worse. She noted that a search of Melaku’s home produced evidence that Melaku was looking to build a homemade timer.

The defense lawyer, Gregory English, said he has no doubt that his client is legally sane, but said a proper mental-health diagnosis may help his client become a better person while he serves his sentence.

English, himself a former Marine, said after the hearing that his personal experience suggests it’s possible that some sort of post-traumatic stress or dispute with the Marines may have triggered Melaku’s actions rather than any desire to support al-Qaida or the Taliban.

“The facts of the case and what his parents are saying to me about the young man suggests these actions are totally out of character,” English said.

Dana Boente, the top assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, which prosecuted the case, said authorities have no evidence that Melaku suffers from any serious mental-health disorders or that his years in the Marine reserves provided a motive for the crime. He said Melaku never served overseas.

Boente called the crimes “a campaign of calculated and sustained attacks against military installations and memorials in northern Virginia.”

Melaku did not speak during the hearing, except to answer a series of questions from the judge with a soft-spoken, “Yes, sir” and a final “guilty, sir” to formally enter his plea.

Hostile Muslims residing in New York are in a snit over a story in the New York Times about the showing of an informational film about Islamic jihad to members of the Police Department. (See Anti-Jihad Documentary Is Shown to NYPD, which Alarms NYTimes.)

The Muslims want the resignation of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly who appeared for about 30 seconds in the 72-minute film, The Third Jihad, but that was too much for fifth-column unfriendlies. The Muslims also complain about police surveillance at mosques and Islamic neighborhoods, despite the obvious fact that nearly all murderous terrorists are Allah devotees for some curious reason.

Among knowledgeable soldiers and police, learning about one’s foe is considered a plus. Sun Tzu said in The Art of War, “if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles.” In the movie Patton, viewers saw the General exclaim about Rommel during a successful battle, “I read your book!” about tank warfare.

Below, a Muslim group and supporters call for Ray Kelly’s resignation because of his brief appearance in a film they don’t like. (An examination of the signs shows an interesting confluence of far-left ideology with anti-American Muslims, e.g. “RAY-cist Kelly… The World Can’t Wait” etc.)

Agitated Muslims say that the film portrays all Allah-followers as head-choppers, but the producers respond otherwise on the doc’s website in response to the controversy:

The beginning of the film states in bold letters that, “This is not a film about Islam. It is about the threat of radical Islam. Only a small percentage of the world’s 1.3 billion Muslims are radical.”

In this instance, Muslims again reveal themselves to be the enemies of free speech and public safety from Islamic terrorism.

They are helped by slavish media coverage, like the AP story below. For example, it doesn’t mention the support for terrorism of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which is a leader of the campaign against Kelly: in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation trail, CAIR was found to be an unindicted co-conspirator in the case and a supporter of terror group Hamas in the US. Nor does it ask for comment from the film’s producers.

Kelly should say that the truth is his defense, but his boss Mayor Bloomberg favored the Ground Zero mosque, and the Commissioner probably wants to keep his job. Too bad.

Muslims call for NYPD chief to resign over movie, Associated Press, January 26, 2012

Muslim groups are calling for New York’s police commissioner to step down because of his appearance in a film they say paints their religion and its adherents in a bad light.

About 20 activists held a news conference on the steps of City Hall on Thursday and criticized Ray Kelly for giving an interview to the producers of the movie “The Third Jihad.”

The movie uses dramatic footage to warn against the dangers of radical Islam. Muslim groups say it encourages Americans to be suspicious of all Muslims.

“Terrorism is an evil that must be eliminated, but one cannot fight wrong with wrong,” said Talib Abdur-Rashid, a Muslim cleric.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday he stood by Kelly and the commissioner’s spokesman, Paul Browne. Activists had also demanded Browne’s resignation.

However, the mayor said Kelly would have to redouble his outreach efforts to Muslims.

“Anything like this doesn’t help credibility, so Ray’s got to work at establishing, re-establishing or reinforcing the credibility that he does have,” Bloomberg said.

Kelly appears for about 30 seconds of the 72-minute movie. He originally said he was not involved but on Wednesday acknowledged he had given a 90-minute interview to the filmmakers in 2007.

The movie was later shown to police trainees. The police department said it was played in a continuous loop in the sign-in area of counterterrorism training sessions between October and December 2010. As many as 1,489 trainees may have seen the movie, according to documents released under New York’s public records law.

Kelly apologized Wednesday for his appearance and for the playing of the movie.

The Muslim leaders said they are worried that the police department is teaching officers to treat all Muslims as suspects. They demanded the resignation of Kelly and his spokesman Paul Browne, and a U.S. Department of Justice inquiry into the showing of the film.

The activists also want retraining of all 1,489 officers “that are walking this city with poison in their brains,” said Cyrus McGoldrick, civil rights director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations-New York. CAIR is one of the organizations that “The Third Jihad” accuses of being soft on terrorist groups.

Kelly has said the department does surveillance only when it is following leads. But an investigation by The Associated Press has revealed a secret intelligence program, set up with the aid of the Central Intelligence Agency, aimed at infiltrating religious groups and monitoring neighborhoods even when there is no evidence of wrongdoing.

The CIA has since decided to pull its officer from the NYPD after an internal investigation criticized poor oversight of the collaboration.

The New York Times is shocked and appalled that around 1500 of the city’s police have been shown “The Third Jihad,” a documentary produced by Zuhdi Jasser about the threat posed by the murderous ideology of Islam.

More generally, the Times is unhappy with the NYPD for its surveillance activities in mosques and Muslim neighborhoods required to keep the city safe from men who desire to mass murder infidels. Naturally the fifth column bunch at the Council of American Islamic Relations and elsewhere are actively working against homeland security in this country, and the liberal media is standing on their side rather than the safety of Americans.

The film shows hostile Muslims declaring their intention of conquering the entire world and controlling it according to the authoritarian sharia law of Islam. Every American should know Islam’s to-do list, and police officers even more so.

Below, a screen snap from the documentary.

Here is the film. If this link doesn’t work you can watch the documentary on the website The Third Jihad.

The Times complains that the film is “Dark” but the atmospherics are determined by the subject. Just because not every Muslim is a throat-slitting jihadist, the Times believes we should not discuss the millions worldwide who are.

Of course, diverse immigration that increasingly admits Muslims by the thousands every year has brought the threat into our own country. The press does not want to connect those dots at all.

In Police Training, a Dark Film on U.S. Muslims, New York Times, January 23, 2012

Ominous music plays as images appear on the screen: Muslim terrorists shoot Christians in the head, car bombs explode, executed children lie covered by sheets and a doctored photograph shows an Islamic flag flying over the White House.

“This is the true agenda of much of Islam in America,” a narrator intones. “A strategy to infiltrate and dominate America. … This is the war you don’t know about.”

This is the feature-length film titled “The Third Jihad,” paid for by a nonprofit group, which was shown to more than a thousand officers as part of training in the New York Police Department.

In January 2011, when news broke that the department had used the film in training, a top police official denied it, then said it had been mistakenly screened “a couple of times” for a few officers.

A year later, police documents obtained under the state’s Freedom of Information Law reveal a different reality: “The Third Jihad,” which includes an interview with Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, was shown, according to internal police reports, “on a continuous loop” for between three months and one year of training.

During that time, at least 1,489 police officers, from lieutenants to detectives to patrol officers, saw the film.

News that police trainers showed this film so extensively comes as the department wrestles with its relationship with the city’s large Muslim community. The Police Department offers no apology for aggressively spying on Muslim groups and says it has ferreted out terror plots.

But members of the City Council, civil rights advocates and Muslim leaders say the department, in its zeal, has trampled on civil rights, blurred lines between foreign and domestic spying and sown fear among Muslims.

“The department’s response was to deny it and to fight our request for information,” said Faiza Patel, a director at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School, which obtained the release of the documents through a Freedom of Information request. “The police have shown an explosive documentary to its officers and simply stonewalled us.”

Tom Robbins, a former columnist with The Village Voice, first revealed that the police had screened the film. The Brennan Center then filed its request.

The 72-minute film was financed by the Clarion Fund, a nonprofit group whose board includes a former Central Intelligence Agency official and a deputy defense secretary for President Ronald Reagan. Its previous documentary attacking Muslims’ “war on the West” attracted support from the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, a major supporter of Israel who has helped reshape the Republican presidential primary by pouring millions of dollars into a so-called super PAC that backs Newt Gingrich.

Commissioner Kelly is listed on the “Third Jihad” Web site as a “featured interviewee.” Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman, wrote in an e-mail that filmmakers had lifted the clip from an old interview. The commissioner, Mr. Browne said, has not asked the filmmakers to remove him from its Web site, or to clarify that he had not cooperated with them.

None of the documents turned over to the Brennan Center make clear which police officials approved the showing of this film during training. Department lawyers blacked out large swaths of these internal memorandums.

Repeated calls over the past several days to the Clarion Fund, which is based in New York, were not answered. The nonprofit group shares officials with Aish HaTorah, an Israeli organization that opposes any territorial concessions on the West Bank. The producer of “The Third Jihad,” Raphael Shore, also works with Aish HaTorah.

Clarion’s financing is a puzzle. Its federal income tax forms show contributions, grants and revenues typically hover around $1 million annually — except in 2008, when it booked contributions of $18.3 million. That same year, Clarion produced “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West.” The Clarion Fund used its surge in contributions to pay to distribute tens of millions of copies of this DVD in swing electoral states across the country in September 2008.

“The Third Jihad” is quite similar, in style and content, to that earlier film. Narrated by Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim doctor and former American military officer in Arizona, “The Third Jihad” casts a broad shadow over American Muslims. Few Muslim leaders, it states, can be trusted.

“Americans are being told that many of the mainstream Muslim groups are also moderate,” Mr. Jasser states. “When in fact if you look a little closer, you’ll see a very different reality. One of their primary tactics is deception.”

The film posits that there were three jihads: One at the time of Muhammad, a second in the Middle Ages and a third that is under way covertly throughout the West today.

This is, the film claims, “the 1,400-year war.”

How the film came to be used in police training, and even for how long, was not clear. An undated memorandum from the department’s commanding officer for specialized training noted that an employee of the federal Department of Homeland Security handed the DVD to the New York police in January 2010. Since then, this officer said, the video was shown continuously “during the sign-in, medical and administrative orientation process.” A Department of Homeland Security spokesman said it was never used in its curriculum, and might have come from a contractor.

As it turned out, it was police officers who blew the whistle after watching the film. Late in 2010, Mr. Robbins contacted an officer who spoke of his unease with the film; another officer, said Zead Ramadan, the New York president of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, talked of seeing it during a training session the previous summer. “The officer was completely offended by it as a Muslim,” Mr. Ramadan said. “It defiled our faith and misrepresented everything we stood for.”

When the news broke about the movie last year, Mr. Browne called it a “wacky film” that had been shown “only a couple of times when officers were filling out paperwork before the actual course work began.”

He made no more public comments. Privately, two days later, he asked the Police Academy to determine whether a terrorism awareness training program had used the video, according to the documents.

The academy’s commander reported back on March 23, 2011, that the film had been viewed by 68 lieutenants, 159 sergeants, 31 detectives and 1,231 patrol officers. The department never made those findings public.

And just one week later, the Brennan Center officially requested the same information, starting what turned out to be a nine-month legal battle to obtain it.

“It suggests a broader problem that they refuse to divulge this information much less to discuss it,” Ms. Patel of the Brennan Center said. “The training of the world’s largest city police force is an important question.”

Mr. Browne said he had been unaware of the higher viewership of the film until asked about it by The New York Times last week.

There is the question of the officers who viewed the movie during training. Mr. Browne said the Police Department had no plans to correct any false impressions the movie might have left behind.

“There’s no plan to contact officers who saw it,” he said, or to “add other programming as a result.”

In Britain, hostile Muslims have been marking territory for a while, declaring areas of high infestation “sharia zones” to state their future plans. More recently, some Muslim decided to hand out leaflets, urging their fellow religionists to kill gay people, as Islam recommends.

Loudmouth jihadist Anjem Choudary has said openly that gays should be stoned to death, and he is not the only one.

Considering how much coddling of Muslims has gone on in Britain, it is rather amazing that this case was prosecuted at all.

The three men who distributed leaflets by hand and into mailboxes were tried under an expansion of the hate crime law to make it apply to gay people along with race or religion. They could get up to seven years hard time.

I’m not a lawyer and find the term “hate crime” to be overused, but when Muslims try to incite murder because Allah says to, then government needs to smack down the perps. It would be better not to welcome Muslims into one’s country in the first place, since they are such a poor bet for socialization, but Britain is long past that point now.

Muslim men first to be found guilty of sex hate crime, Daily Telegraph, January 20, 2012

The men distributed a leaflet that said Islam called for anyone caught committing homosexuality to be executed.

They were convicted by a jury at Derby Crown Court of distributing threatening written material intending to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation.

The case is the first prosecution of its kind since legislation came into force in March 2010.

Ihjaz Ali, Kabir Ahmed and Razwan Javed handed out the pamphlet, called “The Death Penalty?” which showed an image of a mannequin hanging from a noose and quoted Islamic texts that said capital punishment was the only way to rid society of homosexuality.

Mehboob Hussain and Umar Javed, who were also charged with the same offence, were found not guilty by the jury.

Bobbie Cheema, prosecuting, had told jurors: “In this country we have many freedoms. Sometimes we take them for granted perhaps. Our legal system gives us rights and protects those rights. When individuals are charged with serious criminal offences a jury has to hear the evidence, consider the issues and decide whether guilt has been proven, your presence here is one of the ways in which our rights are protected.

“One of the ways in which we organise our society can be summed up in the common phrase, ‘live and let live’. This case is all about the antithesis of that approach to life.

The charges related to one of a series of three leaflets distributed and a fourth not distributed. One was entitled Turn or Burn and featured a burning person in a lake of fire as an image of hell.

The leaflets were distributed after Friday prayers and were part of a protest mounted by a group of Muslim men against the Gay Pride parade due to take place on 10th July, 2010.

Ali had told police he wanted to advertise a Muslim protest against the parade by distributing flyers. Ali was urged by police to take legal advice to ensure the contents of the flyers would not cause offence.

Ali had organised the distribution of the professionally produced colour leaflets and the others were arrested for distributing them.

Ahmed, a father-of-one, told the court he handed out the leaflets as part of his religious beliefs.

He said: “It was my duty as a Muslim to spread what God says about homosexuality.

“The references on the leaflets are historical facts and quote from the Koran.”

Miss Cheema warned the jury: “This case is not about an interference with the defendants’ freedom of religion or freedom to express their religious views in an attempt to education or inform.

“The vast majority of Muslims and indeed other religious people or people with no religion but who have firm views about homosexuality are able to express their views if they wish to in a lawful, moderate and self-controlled way. The Death Penalty leaflet goes well beyond any such temperate discussion.”

On Friday, Kareem Ibrahim (pictured), a Shiite imam from Trinidad, got a lifetime room in the Big House for his part in a terror scheme. He was convicted in Brooklyn last May.

The plan was to blow up fuel lines and tanks at Kennedy Airport in order to create a murderous firestorm that would “rival the horrors of 9/11.” The conspiracy was cooked up by a Guyanese immigrant, Russell M. Defreitas, who worked as a cargo handler at the airport and was given a life sentence earlier along with another Muslim.

Elite media don’t appear very interested in this story. When I looked a little while ago, the New York Times carried only a blog item even though the plot was local. Terror trials involving Muslims are strangely overlooked by the liberal press despite their going on all the time — something I’ve learned from having “Muslim terror trial” as a heading on my Google News page. For example, three North Carolina Muslims were sentenced on Friday to terms from 15 to 45 years for terror plots.

The dinosaur media is simply too politically correct to run stories suggesting that Muslim immigration threatens Americans and should be ended.

Trinidadian Gets Life Sentence in J.F.K. Bomb Plot, New York Times Cityroom Blog, January 13, 2012

A Trinidadian man who was convicted of plotting to blow up fuel tanks at Kennedy International Airport was sentenced Friday to life in prison.

“No one can doubt the seriousness of this crime,” said Judge Dora L. Irizarry of Federal District Court in Brooklyn, who compared the bomb plot to the Sept. 11 attacks as she handed down the maximum sentence to the man, Kareem Ibrahim, 66.

Mr. Ibrahim was one of four men accused in 2007 in what federal authorities said was a plot to cause a chain reaction along a pipeline that would damage vast areas of New York City.

Prosecutors presented evidence at trial that Mr. Ibrahim, an imam and a leader of the Shiite Muslim community in Trinidad, had provided operational support to the group plotting the attack. Mr. Ibrahim was extradited from Trinidad and Tobago for the trial.

Crucial evidence came from a convicted drug dealer and paid informer who contributed financial and logistical support to the plotters and secretly recorded their conversations.

Two of the conspirators, Russell M. Defreitas, a Guyanese immigrant and former cargo handler at the airport who prosecutors said conceived the plan, and Abdul Kadir, a former member of the Guyanese Parliament, were convicted in 2010 and were sentenced to life in prison. Another man, Abdel Nur, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Mr. Ibrahim waived his right to make a statement during the sentencing hearing on Friday. When the sentence was announced, he remained calm as one of his relatives in the courtroom told him to stay strong.

Mr. Ibrahim’s lawyers said they planned to file an appeal on his behalf.

“Kareem Ibrahim abandoned the true tenets of his religion and plotted to commit a terrorist attack that he hoped would rival 9/11,” Loretta E. Lynch, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement. “But law enforcement detected and thwarted the plot, saving lives.”

Funny how US attorney Lynch thought she was qualified to lecture the imam about the true nature of Islam, i.e., that it’s the religion of peace. She must not have read the Koran which is full of admonitions to kill the infidels.

The latest Islamo-terror attempt demonstrates once again what a bad idea Muslim immigration is. Sami Osmakac, a naturalized citizen from Kosovo, was arrested for his plan to blow up parts of the Tampa area. He plotted to bomb a night club and a sheriff’s office, and to use assault rifles to kill Americans.

In order to become naturalized, Osmakac had to live among Americans for several years. But familiarity did not elicit kindly feelings toward the people and country that welcomed him.

Osmakac reportedly wanted to “die the Islamic way” i.e. in the act of murdering lots of infidels for dear Allah. We are urged by elites to celebrate immigrant diversity, even though allowing the entrance of a historic enemy has not worked out well, despite the media propaganda to the contrary.

Below, Muslim immigrant and terror suspect Sami Osmakac.

The Islam practiced in the former Yugoslavia is supposed to be of the “moderate” variety. But that hasn’t always been the case. In 2007, a young Bosnian Muslim, Sulejman Talovic, went to a Salt Lake shopping mall and killed six people. (See Refugee Rampage in Salt Lake.) An off-duty policeman shot him dead at the mall, so details of his motivation were not revealed, and the incident was consigned to the diversity memory hole.

Osmakac is yet another Muslim immigrant whose American Dream is to kill as many Americans as possible. . .

‘Why not die the Islamic way?’: Kosovan immigrant, 25, to Florida ‘planned to cause havoc with car bomb, machine guns and explosives belt’, Daily Mail (UK), January 9, 2012

A 25-year-old Muslim man born in Kosovo allegedly developed a bomb plot to attack crowded locations in Tampa with a car bomb, machine guns and other explosives.

Sami Osmakac, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Kosovo – a disputed Balkan state once a part of the former Yugoslavia that declared its independence from Serbia in 2008 – was charged today with one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Osmakac, of Pinellas County, Florida, allegedly bought explosives and guns from an undercover FBI agent, which had been made unusable.

He told the agent last month that he wanted an AK-47-style machine gun and Uzi submachine guns, investigators said.

Osmakac was arrested on Saturday and due to appear in court on Monday after being charged over the alleged bomb plot in Tampa.

Shortly before his arrest he made a video of himself explaining his motives for carrying out the planned attack, authorities said.

He said in the video that Muslim blood was more valuable than that of people who do not believe in Islam, according to a criminal complaint.

Osmakac allegedly added that he wanted ‘payback’ for wrong that was done to Muslims and bring terror to his ‘victims’ hearts’ in Tampa.

A confidential source allegedly told federal officials in September 2011 – the 10th anniversary of 9/11 – that Osmakac wanted Al Qaeda flags.

Two months later he talked with the source and ‘discussed and identified potential targets in Tampa’ that he wanted to attack, authorities said.

Osmakac allegedly wanted help getting the firearms and explosives for the attacks, and was put in touch with an undercover FBI employee.

Last month Osmakac met with the agent and allegedly told him that he wanted to buy weapons including an AK-47-style machine gun.

He also allegedly wanted Uzi submachine guns, high capacity magazines, grenades and explosive belt.

Osmakac gave the agent a $500 down payment for the items in a later meeting and outlined his intentions to build bombs, authorities said.

He allegedly wanted to build bombs to go in three different vehicles, blow them up remotely and conduct a follow-up attack using his other weapons.

Osmakac allegedly said he wanted to bomb night clubs, a business and the Operations Center of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

He allegedly added that he wanted to detonate a car bomb and use the explosive belt to ‘get in somewhere where there’s a lot of people’.

During that meeting, the agent told Osmakac he could always change his mind about his plot.

Osmakac allegedly shook his head in the negative and stated: ‘We all have to die, so why not die the Islamic way?’

I’ll admit that I half expected the Los Angeles arsonist to be named Mohammed, because of Europe’s recent history of Muslim youth burning down cars and buildings, sometimes for weeks on end, like the 2005 France civil unrest.

Below, over $3 million in damage was caused by 54 fires in four days of intense arson attacks in Los Angeles.

The arrested guy’s name is Harry Burkhart, so no obvious line to Islam there. However, the accused arsonist is German and said he “hates America,” perhaps because his mother was facing deportation. So immigration appears to be a motivator, in a bad way.

In addition, Burkhart’s travel documents indicated he travelled to Chechnya, home of many hostile Muslims and not a groovy tourist spot. Chechens have been in a sort of terror war with Russia, with one of the worst atrocities being the 2004 murder of more than 300 schoolchildren in Beslan.

So there may be an Islamic connection after all. Stay tuned.

Arson suspect’s anti-American rant helped track him, authorities say, Los Angeles Times, January 3, 2012

Weeks before a string of arson fires began, the suspect in the case went on an anti-American rant at an immigration court hearing in Los Angeles, authorities say.

According to law enforcement sources, Harry Burkhart was angry that the federal government was trying to deport his mother. At the hearing, he erupted in an angry tirade, spewing anti-American statements.

He had to be escorted from the court, one source said.

When the LAPD released a photo of a “person of interest” in the fires on Sunday, an official involved in the case recognized him. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said that was the big break that led to Burkhart’s arrest.

The suspected arsonist is a 24-year-old German national who carried travel papers from Chechnya. He had spent time in Germany, they said, but had lived in Southern California for the last several years.

Police searched a Sunset Boulevard home Monday evening in connection with the case.

Witnesses said the search took place in the 7200 block of West Sunset Boulevard in a second-story apartment above a hair salon and optical shop where Burkhart is believed to have lived. Pieces of yellow police tape remained outside the building late Monday.

Shlomo Elady, a 44-year-old hairstylist, works on the first floor of the building at Le Figaro Hairstyling. He said he had cut Burkhart’s hair for more than a year and that he saw Burkhart leave the building each morning and return late at night. He did not know if he had a job.

“I cut his hair just a week and a half ago,” Elady said. “I’m in shock. He’s my client. I never saw any sign of trouble.”

A reserve sheriff’s deputy arrested Burkhart early Monday based on a description of the suspect’s vehicle gleaned from the federal official’s tip.

TV footage showed Burkhart after his arrest, dressed in black, wearing his hair in a ponytail and grinning.

Investigators are trying to determine if other people were involved in the arson rampage that had parts of the city on edge for four days.

Since Friday morning, at least 50 fires were set, mostly in the Hollywood area, but also on the Westside and in the San Fernando Valley. Many of the blazes were in carports and driveways, and spread to apartment buildings and homes.

The media covered the Muslim snub of Mayor Bloomberg’s interfaith breakfast as a minor disagreement on law enforcement procedures. CBS had a typical headline: Some Muslim Leaders Boycott Bloomberg’s Interfaith Breakfast.

The Muslims’ complaint was about the NYPD’s surveillance of suspicious persons of the Islamic religion. Clearly they hoped to intimidate Bloomberg into letting hostile Muslims run amok and do whatever they want against the hated infidels. Bloomberg fortunately wasn’t having any, but the Muslims feel that they can demand that New York City should stop protecting the public from jihadist terrorism and that is somehow a reasonable request and not enemy activity.

For a view of what goes on in the hostile Muslim underworld, the WSJ article from 2010 (Infiltrating Jihadis’ World) is enlightening. One scene describes a dozen men in an Islamic bookstore in Brooklyn getting their groove on from watching snuff films of American soldiers being killed:

“That made these guys pumped up and happy,” the [undercover] officer said. “It’s like a party at a club. They were hitting the walls with excitement. One guy even broke a chair.”

The Muslim fifth column, from CAIR to Mayor Bloomberg’s breakfast guests, doesn’t want Americans to know about such people in our midst and the danger they bring.

Do we have enough Muslim immigrants yet?

Muslims skip NYC mayor’s event to protest spying, Washington Times, December 30. 2011

NEW YORK — More than a dozen Muslim clerics and civic leaders skipped Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s annual interfaith breakfast Friday, saying they were upset that he supported police department surveillance efforts in their neighborhoods.

The 15 leaders wrote a letter to the mayor, saying they were protesting the spying program first revealed in a series of Associated Press articles. The letter made a controversy out of a normally sedate end-of-the-year meeting.

Bloomberg didn’t directly address the boycott during the event, though he did quote his father as telling him that “discrimination against anyone is discrimination against everyone.”

He also said: “We have to keep our guard up, but if we don’t work together we won’t have our own freedoms.”

The breakfast is traditionally held at the historic New York Public Library building on 42nd Street and has long served to showcase the city’s diversity during overlapping winter holidays.

Hesham El-Meligy, a founder of the Building Bridges Coalition of Staten Island, said he boycotted the breakfast in hopes of persuading the mayor to abandon his support for the surveillance program.

“I don’t care about having breakfast, I care about the liberties that I came to this country for,” said El-Meligy, who is from Egypt.

Rabbi Michael Weisser signed the letter as a supporter but said he did not participate in the boycott because he hoped to engage the mayor in conversation about the dispute.

“From a Jewish perspective, it reminded me of things that were going on in the 1930s in Germany. We don’t need that in America,” he said. “The Muslim community is targeted. It’s stereotyped. When people think of terrorism, they immediately think Muslim.”

He said he had no problem with the police department following leads, but objected to the sense that the department is targeting Muslim organizations because they are Muslim.

“We can’t be painting a whole group of people with the same broad brush,” he said.

More than 350 people attended Friday’s breakfast, more than last year.

On his weekly Friday morning appearance on WOR-AM, Bloomberg defended police, saying they don’t target any ethnic group.

“It’s like saying you are going after people that are my height with brown hair. If a perp is described that way in the neighborhood, you look at everybody in the neighborhood that’s got brown hair, my height, you stop them,” he said.

“But we have great race relations here. The communities whether they’re Muslim or Jewish or Christian or Hindu or Buddhist or whatever, all contribute to this city. We don’t target any one of them. We don’t target any neighborhood.”

Records examined by the AP show the police department collected information on people who were neither accused nor suspected of wrongdoing.

The AP series detailed police department efforts to infiltrate Muslim neighborhoods and mosques with aggressive programs designed by a CIA officer. Documents reviewed by the AP revealed that undercover police officers known as “rakers” visited businesses such as Islamic bookstores and cafes, chatting up store owners to determine their ethnicities and gauge their views. They also played cricket and eavesdropped in ethnic clubs.

The surveillance efforts have been credited with enabling police to thwart a 2004 plot to bomb the Herald Square subway station.

Critics said the efforts amount to ethnic profiling and violate court guidelines that limit how and why police can collect intelligence before there is evidence of a crime. They have asked a judge to issue a restraining order against the police.

Speaking to the media after the breakfast, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the AP articles contained “half-truths and some just things that are not true” but refused to identify them.

“I’m not going to get into it. I don’t have time to do that,” Kelly said.

Kelly said that none of the attendees at the breakfast had raised the matter with him.

“We believe we’re doing what we have to do, pursuant to the law, to protect this city,” he said.

Hussein Rashid, an Islamic studies professor at Hofstra University, wore a blazer over a T-shirt that said “I am not a terrorist.” He said he was disappointed the mayor did not address the surveillance program during his remarks.

“The idea of the NYPD spying on New Yorkers is utterly deplorable,” he said.

But another attendee, Uma Mysorekar, president of the Hindu Temple Society of North America, said she didn’t think the breakfast was “an occasion to express our differences.”

Imam Mohammad Sherzad of the Hasrat Abubakr Mosque in Queens said he worried the boycott would hurt communication between religious groups and city officials.

“We have to meet each other, we have to explain our problems. If we do a boycott, that’s not a good way,” Sherzad said.

Police officials have insisted their counterterrorism programs are legal.

“Contrary to assertions, the NYPD lawfully follows leads in terrorist-related investigations and does not engage in the kind of wholesale spying on communities that was falsely alleged,” police spokesman Paul Browne said in an email Thursday.

A few days ago, a disturbed Muslim woman, Jameela Barnette, was shot dead when she attacked a police officer. She had gotten into trouble earlier for threatening Rep. Peter King because of the hearings he presented on the subject of radical Islam and its dangers to American national security.

In the video below, Congressman King chided the liberal media for its sensationalized accusations of “Islamophobia” — a propaganda theme created by the Muslim Brotherhood in an attempt to make murderous jihadists appear to be the victims. A March Rasmussen poll found that 63 percent of voters do not believe that Muslims are treated unfairly in this country.

Mentally deranged individuals, like Barnette, can sometimes be influenced to behave violently by the crazed exaggerations that appear daily in the mainstream media. Calmly criticizing hostile Islam for its supremacist ideology bent on destroying Western freedoms, as King has done, informs Americans about a genuine threat in our midst.

The CNN talking head in the video below was shocked at the Congressman’s criticism of the press, remarking “to lay this at the doorstep of the media. . . many would question that.”

Maybe in CNN’s newsroom.

Hostile Muslims can be efficient fellows when they plot to mass-murder Christians and other non-Islamics. The Sons of Allah use the Christian calendar to plot their massacres and increase the body count. For example, Egyptian Muslims bombed a Coptic church last New Year’s Eve, killing 21.

Nigeria has a history of religious violence since it is split demographically and geographically with mostly Muslims inhabiting the north. Last June, for example, Boko Haram (the accused group in the current atrocity) bombed a packed beer garden on a Sunday afternoon, killing 25.

Winning through intimidation (and mass murder) is an Islamic custom of long standing: non-believers must convert or die. Boko Haram is the regional Islamist flavor working to institute worldwide totalitarian sharia law.

White House Condemns Nigeria Terror Attack, Fox News, December 25, 2011

LAGOS, Nigeria – The White House on Sunday issued a statement offering condolences to those affected by the coordinated terror attacks in Nigeria that left at least 39 people dead, with the majority dying on the steps of a Catholic church after celebrating Christmas mass.

“We condemn this senseless violence and tragic loss of life on Christmas Day. We offer our sincere condolences to the Nigerian people and especially those who lost family and loved ones. We have been in contact with Nigerian officials about what initially appear to be terrorist acts and pledge to assist them in bringing those responsible to justice,” White House said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities acknowledged they could not bring enough emergency medical personnel to care for the wounded outside St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla near Nigeria’s capital. Elsewhere, a bomb exploded amid gunfire in the central Nigerian city of Jos and a suicide car bomber attacked the military in the nation’s northeast as part of an apparently coordinated assault by the sect known as Boko Haram.

The Christmas Day violence, denounced by world leaders and the Vatican, shows the threat of the widening insurrection posed by Boko Haram against Nigeria’s weak central government. Despite a recent paramilitary crackdown against the sect in the oil-rich nation, it appears that Africa’s most populous nation remains unable to stop the threat.

“These are cowardly attacks on families gathered in peace and prayer to celebrate a day which symbolizes harmony and goodwill towards others,” Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement.

The first explosion on Sunday struck St. Theresa Catholic Church just after 8 a.m. The attack killed 35 people and wounded another 52, said Slaku Luguard, a coordinator with Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency.

Though billions of dollars of oil money flow into the nation’s budget yearly, Luguard’s agency could only send text messages to journalists asking for their help in getting more ambulances.

Those wounded filled the cement floors of a nearby government hospital, with television images showing them crying in pools of their own blood. Corpses lined an open-air morgue.

The bombing and the delayed response drew anger from those gathering around the church after the blast. The crowd initially blocked emergency workers from the blast site, only allowing them in after soldiers arrived.

“We’re trying to calm the situation,” Luguard said. “There are some angry people around trying to cause problems.”

In Jos, a second explosion struck near the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, state government spokesman Pam Ayuba said. Gunmen later opened fire on police guarding the area, killing one officer, he said. Two other locally made explosives were found in a nearby building and disarmed.

By noon on Sunday, explosions echoed through the streets of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state where fighting between security forces and the sect already had killed at least 61 people in recent days. The most serious attack on Sunday came when a suicide bomber detonated a car loaded with explosives at the state headquarters of Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service.

The bomber killed three people in the blast, though the senior military commander apparently targeted survived the attack, the State Security Service said in a statement.

After the bombings, a Boko Haram spokesman using the nom de guerre Abul-Qaqa claimed responsibility for the attacks in an interview with The Daily Trust, the newspaper of record across Nigeria’s Muslim north. The sect has used the newspaper in the past to communicate with public.

Boko Haram has carried out increasingly sophisticated and bloody attacks in its campaign to implement strict Shariah law across Nigeria, a multiethnic nation of more than 160 million people.

The group, whose name means “Western education is sacrilege” in the local Hausa language, is responsible for at least 504 killings this year alone, according to an Associated Press count.

This Christmas attack comes a year after a series of Christmas Eve bombings in Jos claimed by the militants left at least 32 dead and 74 wounded. The group also claimed responsibility for the Aug. 26 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Nigeria’s capital Abuja that killed 24 people and wounded 116 others.

The sect came to national prominence in 2009, when its members rioted and burned police stations near its base of Maiduguri, a dusty northeastern city on the cusp of the Sahara Desert.

Nigeria’s military violently put down the attack, crushing the sect’s mosque into shards as its leader was arrested and died in police custody. About 700 people died during the violence.

While initially targeting enemies via hit-and-run assassinations from the back of motorbikes after the 2009 riot, violence by Boko Haram now has a new sophistication and apparent planning that includes high-profile attacks with greater casualties. That has fueled speculation about the group’s ties as it has splintered into at least three different factions, diplomats and security sources say.

They say the more extreme wing of the sect maintains contact with terror groups in North Africa and Somalia.

Targeting the group has remained difficult, as sect members are scattered throughout northern Nigeria and nearby Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Analysts say political considerations also likely play a part in the country’s thus-far muted response: President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the south, may be hesitant to use force in the nation’s predominantly Muslim north.

In a statement, Jonathan condemned the blasts as a “unwarranted affront on our collective safety and freedom.”

“I want to reassure all Nigerians that government will not relent in its determination to bring to justice all the perpetrators of today’s acts of violence and all others before now,” Jonathan said.

However, Jonathan has made the same promises after a series of spiraling attacks by the group. His spokesman, Reuben Abati, defended the president by saying the country planned to spend more on security and had made arrests targeting the group.

“The administration is very determined to address this new threat of terrorism that seems to have slipped into our environment,” Abati told the AP.

But anger continues to grow over the sect’s apparent ability to strike at will — anger that could be seen at St. Theresa Catholic Church. After the blast, someone picked up a burnt piece of wood to scrawl: “Revolution now in the country” on its cement walls.
