Victims of Illegal Alien Crime Support Donald Trump for President

One of the more notable aspects of Donald Trump’s campaign is the attention he has paid to the victims of illegal alien crime. He has met with family members who lost someone to illegal alien crime and has invited some of them be opening speakers to tell their stories at his rallies.

Below, Jamiel Shaw, standing at the podium, tells a Trump audience about the 2008 murder of his teenaged son who was shot and killed near his home by an exceptionally violent illegal alien gangster who nevertheless had been released onto Los Angeles streets instead of deported. Others on the stage are holding pictures of their relatives also killed by unlawful foreigners.

In the following video, JamIel Shaw is joined by two other parents whose children have been killed by illegal aliens, Mary Ann Mendoza and Sabine Durden:

Job #1 for government is supposed to be public safety. But Washington is willfully failing that task, and Trump’s attention to illegal alien crime reminds the public of how little Obama & co. care about keeping citizens safe from the world’s criminals.

Donald Trump Wins Support From Parents of Illegal Immigrants’ Victims, Wall Street Journal, June 5, 2016

GOP candidate’s effort parallels Hillary Clinton’s outreach to mothers of African-Americans killed in gun violence

Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump is giving a national platform to parents of victims of crimes by illegal immigrants, inviting them to rallies and telling their tragic stories to boost support for hard-line immigration policies.

The families help put a sympathetic face on Mr. Trump’s rhetoric branding Mexican immigrants as criminals and his plans to build a wall along the southern border and to deport millions of people who are here illegally. Those parents who are black and Hispanic also offer Mr. Trump political cover from allegations of racial and ethnic prejudice, most recently for accusing a Mexican-American judge of being biased against him.

Mr. Trump also is drawing intense media attention to what they see as public-safety issues caused by illegal immigration.

Sabine Durden told thousands of people at a Trump rally in Anaheim, Calif., two weeks ago about her 30-year-old son, Dominic, a sheriff’s dispatcher who was killed in a 2012 motorcycle accident by an illegal immigrant truck driver convicted twice of driving under the influence.

Choking back tears, she recalled: “I heard Donald Trump on the television as I walked by talking about illegal immigration and about the cost of American lives and I screamed. Donald Trump became my life savior that day, my hero… Wanting to control the border has nothing to do with racism but all to do with law and order.”

Online video of Mr. Trump kissing and signing posters of her son and other crime victims after the rally has been viewed more than 230,000 times.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump said meeting the parents of children killed by illegal immigrants “reinforced even more” his support for stringent immigration laws.

“Even I didn’t realize how bad it was,” he said. “When you see these families that have been destroyed by people who aren’t supposed to be here, who are criminals…The only way people can understand how severe this crisis is to see the families, and then they see the horror of it.” Continue reading this article

Crime Victim Mother Supports Donald Trump as Immigration Enforcer

It’s reassuring about Donald Trump that despite his sometimes curious personality quirks, he has paid special attention to families who are crime victims of illegal aliens. For example, about a week ago he invited a group of family members onto the stage with him in Costa Mesa CA and asked Jamiel Shaw to speak from the podium. Shaw’s son, an outstanding high school athlete who was scouted by major universities, was shot dead just a few doors from home by a violent illegal alien gangster released from the Los Angeles County jail. Laura Wilkerson, another parent whose son was killed by an illegal alien, was a speaker at an Orlando Trump rally in March. Plus Trump met with crime victim families last July.

Mary Ann Mendoza has been a real trooper to keep her son’s memory alive, along with reminding the public of the preventable nature of the crime that killed him. Sergeant Brandon Mendoza of the Mesa AZ Police was on his way home from work when his car was hit head-on by a drunk illegal Mexican who had driven 35 miles the wrong way on the highway. The alien had been previously arrested for burglary and assaulting a policeman in Colorado, but was not deported. Mary Ann Mendoza was so angered at having her son’s life stolen that she wrote a letter to President Obama.

Below, Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed by a head-on collision with a previously arrested but not deported drunk-driving illegal alien with a blood alcohol level of .24 percent.

Mary Ann Mendoza appeared on Fox News on Saturday morning to discus Trump’s approach to the issue. She supports his strategy of taxing remittances — something I suggested in a 2002 op-ed (Relieve crisis on border with tax on remittances, Houston Chronicle, 12/3/02). Another program she backs is a fund to assist families who have lost a loved one to illegal alien crime, because now they get nothing and the lawbreakers get all sorts of help.

Of course, the best policy for illegal aliens is to keep them out in the first place.

TUCKER CARLSON: Mary Ann Mendoza’s son, police sergeant Brendan Mendoza was killed by an illegal immigrant in 2014, and she supports Donald Trump’s stance on immigration, but will the presumptive nominee change his position once he heads into the general election? Mary Ann Mendoza joins us now to discuss. Mary Ann, it’s nice to see you this morning. So Donald Trump is under pressure from the left of course, but also from the establishment of his own party to stop talking about the border issue. They think it’s divisive; he’s been attacked as a nativist for even bringing this up. What’s your view?

MARY ANN MENDOZA: My view is that I believe that illegal immigration is at the core of a lot of the problems that the United States is facing today — overload on our health system, overload on our welfare system, the schools, and not to mention the illegal crime that happens on a daily basis. House Immigration Committee: Two Mothers Tell of Children Killed by Illegal Aliens

On Tuesday, the House Immigration Subcommittee held a hearing titled The Real Victims of a Reckless and Lawless Immigration Policy: Families and Survivors Speak Out on the Real Cost of This Administration’s Policies.

We have seen crime victim families before, notably in America’s Senator Jeff Sessions’ thorough selection of testimonies last July (see my blog Senate Committee Hears from Families Whose Loved Ones Were Killed by Illegal Alien Criminals). However, the administration wants to import millions of additional Democrats, and a few dead Americans don’t seem to be a prohibitive price.

Chairman Trey Gowdy noted in his opening statement, “Surely we can all agree that protecting the public from violence and lawlessness is the pre-eminent function of government.” (If only the authorities followed that simple principle.)

Congressman Bob Goodlatte is Chair of the full Judiciary Committee and used his opening statement to review some facts about worsening illegal alien crime in America because of the administration’s permissive policies:

BOB GOODLATTE: I also want to express my deepest sympathy to the family members of Sarah Root and Joshua Wilkerson who were tragically killed by criminal aliens illegally present in the United States. Their mothers Michelle Root and Laura Wilkerson are here to share their stories under heartbreaking circumstances that no parent could be prepared for or should have to bear. Sarah Root was killed by an unlawful alien drunk driver less than three months ago. Only hours before her death she graduated from college with a 4.0 average and a degree in investigations. Tragically the Department of Homeland Security did not consider her killer an enforcement priority and did not issue a detainer for his arrest. As a result he posted a state bail bond and fled.

Joshua Wilkerson was tortured and murdered in 2010 by an alien who had overstayed his visa for eight years. The killer was arrested on a harassment charge only months before, but ICE did not seek to take custody. The district attorney who prosecuted the murder case couldn’t explain why ICE did not have an interest in him, despite the fact that ICE regularly reviewed the county jail roster,

Though these two young victims had unique life stories, their tragic deaths are linked by a common thread: they are two of the many innocent victims of the irresponsible policies of the Obama administration that promote the presence of dangerous criminal aliens in American communities. The American public has been misled by the enforcement priorities — deferred action and executive action — policies of this administration which categorize only certain quote unquote serious criminal aliens as worthy of immigration enforcement. However this administration’s actions demonstrate that it finds it acceptable to permit even serious criminal aliens to prey on our communities. The fact remains that illegal immigration has consequences. It is not a victimless crime, and for the families and friends of victims killed, maimed or otherwise hurt by aliens especially those who are illegally present, the consequences can be devastating. Drunk Driving Illegal Alien Kills Woman, Is Bailed Out and Disappears

Funny how after all these years of Americans being run down by drunk driving illegal aliens, the crime of inebriated vehicle operation by unlawful foreigners is still not taken seriously by authorities. One recent example was of the preventable death of 21-year-old Sarah Root of Omaha Nebraska. Had illegal alien DREAMer type Edwin Mejia not been given refugee status by the open-borders administration and sent home, he wouldn’t have been around to kill an innocent young American. Worse, the government doubled its guilt by releasing the alien killer from jail instead of holding him for trial.

Below, illegal alien Edwin Mejia (left) killed Sarah Root, yet was allowed to post bond from jail and disappear.

DrunkDrivingEswinMejiaKilledSarahRoot

A Monday report on Fox News provided a quick summary of a very disturbing case:

ABBY HUNTSMAN: We’re looking at this story of an illegal immigrant on the run, accused of killing a young woman in a drunken street-racing accident. Edwin Mejia was arrested and posted bail — you can see him here in Nebraska — but immigration officials never detained him — why? Well they say his crimes didn’t meet ICE’s quote “enforcement priorities.” William La Jeunesse is live for us from our West Coast newsroom. William, walk us through what happened here and why they let this guy go.

WILLIAM LA JEUNESSE: The big question is why would the administration let this illegal immigrant out of jail just days after killing a woman, despite a plea from cops and a previous warrant. So 21-year-old Sarah Root had just graduated from college when police say Edwin Mejia plowed into her car drunk without a license. Omaha police put him in jail, asked ICE to detain him while prosecutors prepared their homicide case. ICE refused, saying Mejia’s arrest did not meet their enforcement priorities as outlined by the president and Homeland Security Director Jeh Johnson.

Outraged Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse tried but failed to get a straight answer from ICE Director Sara Saldana:

SASSE: If an illegal alien kills an American citizen, should ICE let that person go free?

SALDANA: There will be criminal consequences.

SASSE: We don’t know where the man is.

LA JEUNESSE: So Saldana said they couldn’t hold Mejia because Root wasn’t dead; that wasn’t true. She also claimed that ICE didn’t have time to hold him. Well police called four times starting at 7:30 in the morning for ICE to issue that detainer, they were refused. Twelve hours later they let him go.

HUNTSMAN: That begs the question: if this guy wasn’t an enforcement priority, then who is?

LA JEUNESSE: DHS policy says they will only hold the suspect if he has a prior felony conviction, saying last week quote “Based on the totality of circumstances involved when arrested, ICE decided not to issue a detainer at the time. Now, however, he’s ON ICE’s Ten Most Wanted list. That’s little consolation to Sarah’s father.

SCOTT ROOT: I don’t know what else I can say, they can’t bring her back. Somebody’s gotta be held accountable, you know, apparently he isn’t.

LA JEUNESSE: Mejia, who came to the border in 2013 as a minor was allowed to stay as a refugee; jumped bail. Police believe he is now back in Honduras.

In a related item about the drastically reduced public safety in this country caused by Obama administration policies, the video below notes that the Migration Policy Institute has found that 820,000 illegal immigrants in the US have been convicted of crime. Manhattan Institute scholar Heather MacDonald remarked about the Root killing, “The ultimate agenda is to delegitimize deportation entirely as a response to illegal immigration. We cannot even deport illegal alien criminals. And once we lose deportation as a response to illegal entry, we have basically ceded the borders completely.”

This story provides details about Senator Sasse’s attempt to get some response out of the useless Sarah Saldana:

Vehicular homicide not enough to detain illegal immigrants: DHS, By Stephen Dinan, Washington Times, April 4, 2016

Even being convicted of homicide isn’t enough to ensure illegal immigrants are detained by federal agents, the government’s top deportation official said in a letter to Congress released Monday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana said neither Obama administration policy nor federal law required her agency to detain Edwin Mejia, who arrived in the U.S. illegally as part of the surge of unaccompanied children from Central America, after he was charged with vehicular homicide in Nebraska. Domino’s Pizza Serves Up Sidewalk Delivery Robot

Over in Australia, the Domino Pizza people are thrilled with their robot delivery vehicle about to be rolled out. So advanced and sparkly!

DominoPizzaDeliveryRobotDRU

The well lit machine kadoodles along sidewalks, dodging pedestrians and other obstacles at up to 12 mph and is equipped with a warm compartment for pies and a cold section for soft drinks. No driver required!

The pizza delivery robot is another example of how rapidly smart machines are moving into the fast-food business. That’s not good news for low-skilled workers or anyone who needs a part-time gig to keep some cash coming in. The CEO of Carl’s Jr. Andy Puzder remarked last week, “If you’re making labor more expensive, and automation less expensive — this is not rocket science.” (Fast-food CEO says he’s investing in machines because he can’t afford to pay workers, Yahoo.com).

The demands of fast-food workers for $15/hour have accelerated the move toward automation. A relatively inexpensive bit of technology being introduced is the ordering kiosk, which is being introduced by McDonalds. Chevys and Chilis are beginning to use tablets stationed on tables to take orders.  The cooking and assembly of the hamburger have also been mechanized.

Given the increasing rush to automation, it makes no sense to continue admitting millions of low-skilled immigrants and illegal aliens. If indeed nearly half of US jobs are susceptible to being taken by smart machines in less than 20 years as forecast by Oxford University researchers, then the number of immigrants should be ZERO.

Domino’s pizza self-driving delivery bots will soon roam Australia, Autoblog.com, March 18, 2016

Domino’s Pizza is beating swords into plowshares in Australia by re-purposing military training robots into autonomous pizza delivery vehicles. On March 16, Domino’s Pizza Australia introduced its newest employee to the pizza-loving public, a four-wheeled, self-driving robot called the Domino’s Robotic Unit (DRU for short). Designed and built over the past year in collaboration with a military robot technology startup called Marathon Robotics, DRU is based on autonomous robots used for live fire training.

Small and sturdy, DRU is just under four feet tall, weighs a little over 400 pounds, and is built from steel, aluminum, and various high-impact plastics. It can travel at speeds up to 12 miles per hour on sidewalks and over smooth terrain, and with a full charge has a maximum range of about 12 miles. To find its way around, DRU uses a combination of onboard collision sensors, LIDAR, and a GPS system powered by Google Maps. For protection from drunks, college kids, and other ne’er-do-wells, DRU has a well-secured cargo hold and mounts a number of IP cameras that will stream constantly to the cloud to record any attempted vandalism or pizza-jacking. Mother of Illegal Alien Crime Victim Remembers Her Son’s Life

It’s tough sledding to be related to somebody killed by an illegal alien thug. The personal loss is bad enough, but the response from the government and liberal media is slim to none.

Illegal alien enthusiasts in the government used to pretend that steps would be taken to weed out the dangerous ones, but that was always a lie. Now they don’t even bother to pretend, like when the Senate Democrats blocked a bill punishing sanctuary cities a couple weeks ago.

Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was struck and killed in a head-on collision by drunk-driving illegal alien who had prior arrests for burglary and assaulting a police officer but was not deported.

In ultra-liberal San Francisco, the poster city of illegal alien crime after the July murder of Kate Steinle, the Board of Supervisors faked concern about the issue by debating non-binding resolutions about the policy the same day the Senate anti-sanctuary bill was blocked.

Interestingly, San Francisco’s Tuesday election for sheriff has been reported to hinge partially on the sanctuary issue. Incumbent Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi released Kate Steinle’s accused killer even though federal immigration officials requested the man be detained for deportation. Interestingly, a recent UC Berkeley government studies poll found a majority of Californians opposed sanctuary policies, including 73 percent of Democrats. So it’s possible Mirkarimi might get a bad surprise on Tuesday.

Brandon Mendoza’s mother Mary Ann Mendoza appeared on Fox News on Sunday to discuss the occasion of the remembrance day to recall the victims of illegal alien criminals.

TUCKER CARLSON: A critical issue in the 2016 presidential race is how the candidates will deal with illegal aliens entering this country, some of them committing deadly crimes. For hundreds of families the issue is more than political, it’s personal and decidedly tragic. Those families have declared today a national remembrance day; they’re going to hold vigils across the country in the memories of their loved ones killed by people who shouldn’t have been here in the first place.

Our next guest will be among those. Last year Mary Mendoza’s son police sergeant Brandon Mendoza of Mesa, Arizona, died after a drunk man in this country illegal for almost two decades crashed head-on into him. The man was wanted for a variety of crimes. Mrs. Mendoza joins us now to tell us how she is honoring the life of her son. Mrs. Mendoza, thanks for joining us this morning. Can you tell us how you’re honoring the life of your son Brandon?

MARY MENDOZA: Well today is National Remembrance Day, and we’re going to have a ceremony down at the Capitol in Phoenix at 5 p.m. this evening where we will gather and remember all the Arizona victims. And since Brandon’s death I’ve been trying to honor him as best I can, to carry on his his legacy and what he was doing in the neighborhood that he patrolled. We’re having the annual Mendoza Thanksgiving dinner to Boys and Girls Club that he started of several years ago. I’m trying to get scholarship funds out there because it was so important for him to have children get education and have goals in life. Continue reading this article

Arizona Sheriff Condemns Feds for Irresponsible Release of Dangerous Aliens into American Communities

On Tuesday, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu held a press event to draw attention to the continuing release of violent illegal aliens onto American streets. He chose three diverse characters as examples to demonstrate how little our government cares about the citizens’ safety.

Below, a Sudanese, a Russian and an Iraqi walk out of a prison — that would be (l-r) Musa Salah Abdelaziz Abdalla, Dennis Valerievitch Tsoukanov and Nasser Hanna Hermez. All have lengthy criminal histories but were released by ICE anyway.

Arizona3criminalsReleasedHermezAbdalla

Terrible crimes are occurring because of liberal weakness toward illegal alien criminals. On July 1, Kate Steinle was shot to death in San Francisco by a five-times-deported Mexican drug dealer who had not been repatriated. Marilyn Pharis, an Air Force veteran, was attacked in her Santa Maria CA apartment on Jul 24 by two men, one of which was an illegal who had been released rather than deported.

Yesterday I reported on illegal alien Francisco Chavez who beat a two-year-old girl nearly to death, who nevertheless was released by San Luis Obispo authorities on bond and unsurprisingly didn’t show up for his court date.

Americans pay billions of dollars in taxes to support a system of police, border security, courts and prisons. It’s therefore reasonable for us to expect a first-world level of public safety, but we’re not getting it. Why are illegal alien criminals treated with such deference?

Sheriff Babeu had two crime victim relatives with him to speak, the mother of Brandon Mendoza and the father of Grant Ronnebeck.

Here’s a local news report from Fox 10 in Phoenix:

Arizona sheriff blasts Feds for releasing violent immigrants into communities, Fox News, August 18, 2015

An Arizona lawman blasted the federal government Tuesday over an Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy he said sprang criminal immigrants on the law-abiding public.

With the loved ones of crime victims at his side, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu spotlighted three criminals, including a Russian national who set a police informant on fire, an Iraqi who killed his two-year-old daughter and an illegal immigrant from Sudan who has committed multiple assaults in two states. Babeu said ICE set all three and hundreds like them free in communities such as his, and that even its new “Law Enforcement Notification System,” designed to let local authorities know of pending releases, is too little, too late.

“You don’t have to be a sheriff to realize that this is going to end very badly for people,” Babeu said. “You don’t release murderers into the state of Arizona and somehow think that they are just going to go about their business and try to find a job.”

Babeu said immigrant criminals should be deported after completing prison sentences, especially when they have shown a propensity for violence. The three criminals, who Babeu pointedly noted were not from Mexico, were all released in Arizona in the last week. Continue reading this article

Illegal Alien Child Beater Fails to Appear in Court

FranciscoChavezChildAbuserA violent illegal alien who was released from jail for a charge of bone-breaking assault did not show up for his court date. Whatever did authorities have in mind when they allowed bail for a man who was definitely a flight risk?

That’s a rhetorical question in California, where the most dangerous foreigners like to reside because no other state is so criminal friendly.

The alien in question is Francisco Chavez (pictured), who was arrested a couple weeks ago for beating a toddler nearly to death, yet he was allowed bail. He has a local record too, so San Luis Obispo authorities cannot claim ignorance about him:

Mexican national accused of abusing toddler is freed despite request from immigration officials, San Luis Obispo, August 4, 2015

. . . Chavez similarly has a criminal history in San Luis Obispo dating back to 2006, when he was convicted of felony assault and served about 180 days in County Jail. Court records show he had been arrested at least four other times on suspicion of various offenses, including a 2011 felony conviction for possessing a controlled substance for sale.

According to ICE, Chavez was previously deported in February 2014 following a San Luis Obispo County conviction for drunken driving.

Apparently the Mexican could have been kept in jail if he had been charged with a worse crime. Does this screw-up reveal Chicago-level corruption or California stupidity? Chavez is likely back in Mexico now.

It’s not like the citizens have a right to expect some semblance of public safety for all the taxes we pay.

Illegal immigrant a no-show in court, Cal Coast News, August 17 ,2015

An illegal immigrant whom the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office recently let out of jail did not appear Thursday at his first court appearance for the alleged near-fatal beating of a 2-year-old girl.

Francisco Chavez, 27, is accused of nearly beating to death the young daughter of his live-in girlfriend. The two-year-old reportedly suffered a broken leg, two broken arms, a compressed spine, bruises and a urinary tract infection. She was in the hospital with a 107-degree fever days following the beating.

On Thursday, after Chavez failed to appear, Judge Dodie Harman ordered a warrant for his arrest with bail set at $600,000. Continue reading this article

Senate Committee Hears from Families Whose Loved Ones Were Killed by Illegal Alien Criminals

On Tuesday morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing, Oversight of the Administration’s Misdirected Immigration Enforcement Policies: Examining the Impact on Public Safety and Honoring the Victims. Chaired by Senator Grassley, the committee heard testimony from five Americans who had lost family members at the hands of criminal illegal aliens.

The first to speak was Susan Oliver, the widow of Sacramento County Deputy Danny Oliver, who was killed with another officer last October by a previously deported Mexican gangster during a six-hour crime spree in northern California.

Below, Sacramento County sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver, left, and Placer County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis Jr.

Susan Oliver’s Written Testimony

The most publicized case, the one that prompted this hearing, was the murder of Kate Steinle as she strolled a popular San Francisco pier with her father. She was shot by a five-times-deported Mexican career criminal, Francisco Sanchez, who had been recently released by the county sheriff because of the city’s extreme sanctuary policy.

Kate’s father spoke about his daughter: Jim Steinle’s Written Testimony

In terms of politicians protecting foreign lawbreakers, the death of Denny McCann in Chicago is one of the most disturbing around. Denny was run down and dragged to death by drunk-driving illegal alien Saul Chavez. But instead of keeping the perp in jail for trial, Cook County released him on bail even though he was an obvious flight risk. So of course Chavez disappeared, leaving the McCann family with a big legal mess along with the emotional pain.

Below, Denny McCann

In his statement, Denny’s brother explained the very suspicious release of the criminal in secret on a Sunday after the family had been assured by authorities that Chavez wouldn’t be allowed to post bond because of an immigration detainer. It’s hard not to think a fix was in, somewhere in Chicago politics.

Brian McCann’s Written Testimony

Laura Wilkerson spoke on behalf of her 18-year-old son Josh who was savagely beaten to death by Hermilo Moralez. She read from the autopsy report to reveal the brutality of the beating which the medical examiner described as torture: Joshua was “tied up with braided rope, 13 loops around his neck with a slipknot; it goes behind his back through his back belt loop; it goes to his hands in his feet behind his body. He has multiple fractures in his face and nasal cavity. His throat and his voice box are crushed.”

Wilkerson challenged the Senators to stop putting foreign criminals first, and start protecting Americans: “I don’t want the sympathy. I want you to do something.”

Below, Joshua Wilkerson (left) was killed by fellow student and illegal alien Hermilo Moralez who bragged about his martial arts “killing skills” at trial.

JoshuaWilkerson-KillerMoralez

Laura Wilkerson’s Written Testimony

Michael Ronnebeck, the uncle of Grant, spoke about the murder of his nephew as he worked checkout in an Arizona convenience store. The illegal alien shooter is reportedly a member of the Mexican mafia. Michael pleaded for laws to be enacted that would protect Americans.

Below, Grant Ronnebeck, who was 21 when shot dead by an illegal alien Mexican.

Michael Ronnebeck’s Written Testimony

Finally, Senator Sessions, who had been given the gavel by Senator Grassley, cross-examined the second panel of witnesses, two useless administration muppets. Sessions ended up by declaring the obvious truth about illegal alien crime: “This administration has consistently and steadfastly place the goal of amnesty above the goal of public safety.”

Humanoid Robot Competition Suggests Rapid Advance in Technology

A front-page story in Sunday’s Washington Post focused on a government contest to build a humanoid robot capable of acting as a first responder in dangerous situations. The challenge of dealing with the radioactive Fukushima disaster has focused the military on what talents are needed in the next generation of robots, where the machines need to perform tasks as well as send back images of a situation.

The competition includes a variety of activities in the obstacle course, from driving (!) to opening doors and closing valves. This is advanced stuff (assuming they can do it) and shows how fast things are moving in robo-tech.

DARPArobotCompetitionObstacleCourse-wp

Certainly we all want robots that can deal with Fukushima-type disasters, where radiation threatens the health of humans trying to deal with the mess for even a short period of time. But you can see where this is going, namely to the eventual elimination of some police and fireman jobs. Not all, of course, but those jobs (plus pensions) are very expensive for local governments. (The average San Francisco police pension as of 2011 was $95,016.) Police deserve a generous retirement for what they put up with, but governments tend to look at the dollar cost of such services and how to cut it.

The Washington Post has concerns about killer robots loosed upon the world. Nobody wants rampaging murder machines like the ones we have seen in the movies. They wouldn’t be as entertaining in real life as on the screen.

The robots being built for the competition are not that police or enforcement category, but any bot that can drive a car and open a door can also be programmed to fire a gun. Military robots will eventually replace some soldiers as well, continuing the reduction of the employment and opportunity universe.

Recently the House Democrats sought to allow illegal aliens to serve in the military (to “earn” amnesty), an effort which failed. The same forces of expanding technology that cause job loss in the civilian sector also apply to the military. Therefore, America doesn’t need any more immigrants to be workers or to serve in the armed forces.

Military pushes for emergency robots as skeptics worry about lethal uses, Washington Post, May 16, 2015

It’s 6-foot-2, with laser eyes and vise-grip hands. It can walk over a mess of jagged cinder blocks, cut a hole in a wall, even drive a car. And soon, Leo, Lockheed Martin’s humanoid robot, will move from the development lab to a boot camp for robots, where a platoon’s worth of the semiautonomous mechanical species will be tested to see if they can be all they can be.

Next month, the Pentagon is hosting a $3.5 million, international competition that will pit robot against robot in an obstacle course designed to test their physical prowess, agility, and even their awareness and cognition.

Galvanized by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power disaster in 2011, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency — the Pentagon’s band of mad scientists that have developed the “artificial spleen,” bullets that can change course midair and the Internet — has invested nearly $100 million into developing robots that could head into disaster zones off limits to humans.

“We don’t know what the next disaster will be, but we know we have to develop the technology to help us to address these kinds of disaster,” Gill Pratt, DARPA’s program manager, said in a recent call with reporters.

The competition comes at a time when weapons technology is advancing quickly and, with lasers that can shoot small planes out of the sky and drones that can land on aircraft carriers, piercing the realm of science fiction. Continue reading this article

DHS Secretary Johnson Claims Interest in Deporting Criminals

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Tuesday morning where the Chairman, Chuck Grassley, had the opportunity to question DHS chief Jeh Johnson for the first time since Obama’s executive amnesty last November. Senator Grassley used the opportunity to quiz Johnson directly about a case of a man, Emmanuel Rangel-Hernandez, who received the President’s DACA benefit despite being a known gang member. The alien later went on to murder four people, authorities contend.

Below, illegal alien gangster Rangel-Hernandez (r) is accused of murdering Mirjana Puhar, a contestant in the TV show America’s Top Model, among others.

Senator Grassley has been very persistent in pursuing the Rangel-Hernandez case, recognizing how it signifies the sloppiness by which the administration “investigates” — perhaps too strong a word — the illegal aliens which it intends to reward with citizenship. In February Grassley reported on information he had received about the criminal background of the accused killer, and in March sent a letter to the DHS demanding to know the truth. A week ago, the agency admitted its mistake in awarding the gangster alien with a DACA.

In Tuesday’s hearing, Senate Committee on the Judiciary Hearing on Oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, Chairman Grassley mentioned the gangster case just a few sentences into his opening statement (see below) and got quickly to that subject in his questioning.

GRASSLEY: I want to ask you about Mr. Rangel-Hernandez, a gang member that committed those murders I referred to. According to your April 17 response to me and Mr. Tillis, Mr. Rangel-Hernandez’ application should have gone through several layers of review, including by U.S. Citizenship Immigration Services’ background check unit.

Because of his gang affiliation, the department’s headquarters should also have reviewed the case. Thus, the adjudicator would only be able to approve such an application after a sign off from Washington leadership. There was obviously a lapse, but it’s unclear who dropped the ball.

First question, why was Mr. Rangel-Hernandez approved for deferred action despite his known gang ties. In other words, which office was responsible for approving the DACA applicant, and was it the adjudicator, the background check unit or USCIS headquarters?

JOHNSON: The answer to the Why question is simply he should not have received DACA. I believe on balance DACA is a good program. I also believe that this case is a tragic case, and this individual should not have received DACA. I cannot state that in stronger terms. . .

We’ve gone back and retrained the entire workforce that deals with these cases to make sure that they identify trouble signs, such as suspected membership in criminal gangs. . .

I’m interested in deporting criminals, sir.

Johnson never did get around to specifying the office that screwed up, claiming he didn’t know the name of the unit. (Lame!) Holding people accountable is not the government style. Johnson’s using the word “sir” was the closest to an apology the committee got.

Now, back to the beginning of the hearing for the first part of Chairman Grassley’s opening statement which was rather blunt:

Oversight is a critical function and a constitutional responsibility of the legislative branch. Every year, this committee tries to invite the Secretary of Homeland Security to brief us on the state of affairs of the department. It’s an opportunity to question the administration’s policies as well as an opportunity for the department to take responsibility for its actions.

It’s a pleasure to have Secretary Johnson here today. This is the first opportunity for our committee to question him publicly since the President’s executive actions on immigration announced last November.

Even though there is an injunction against the executive actions, we can still get a good idea of what to expect from the enjoined programs based on the way the department has implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or “DACA” program.

It appears, for example, that applications for deferred action are being rubberstamped, evidenced by the fact that criminals and gang members are receiving this special benefit despite supposed policies against it.

Take, for example, the case of a DACA recipient in North Carolina, Emmanuel Rangel-Hernandez, who is accused of murdering four people, including a former reality TV model.

Last week, the department admitted Rangel-Hernandez had received DACA despite his gang membership, which was known to adjudicators, and despite already being in deportation proceedings.

The agency response indicated a lapse in the processing of Rangel-Hernandez’s application. However it’s not yet clear who ultimately made the decision to approve the application. We need to get to the bottom of it. We know that the agency has terminated 282 DACA requests because of gang and/or criminal issues. So, this appears to be a bigger problem.

This tragedy compels the question: What background checks are in place and are they adequate to ensure that benefits are not being provided to those who pose a threat to the homeland and public safety? And, does this administration truly have a zero-tolerance policy for the granting of immigration benefits to criminals and gang members, as suggested by the President?

The committee will also want to hear from the Secretary about the proposed expansion of DACA and why the department provided over 100,000 DACA work authorization extensions despite assurances its lawyers gave the federal court that it would not implement any aspect of the President’s executive action until February 18, 2015.

Whether discussing the 2012 DACA program or the 2014 executive actions, there remain questions about the legality of the President’s actions. There are also questions about how the department will fund the programs, and whether legal immigrants will suffer due to the prioritization for benefits of people in the country illegally.

The Secretary must also answer as to why this administration is allowing people here illegally to be put on a path to citizenship, which is clearly a constitutional responsibility of Congress. This path to citizenship is afforded through the administration’s use of advance parole, which they are encouraging DACA applicants to take advantage of. This loophole will set a dangerous precedent that will allow lawbreakers to obtain the benefits of lawful permanent residence and citizenship after showing a total disregard for American law.

One thing seems very clear: there is little will or desire by this administration to enforce the laws on the books and to back up agents in the field who swore to uphold the law.

This administration needs to answer for the release of criminal aliens into our communities. In fiscal year 2013, the department released from detention over 36,000 convicted criminal aliens in removal proceedings or after they had been ordered removed. Then in fiscal year 2014, it released 30,558 convicted criminal aliens. They had convictions ranging from homicide to sexual assault to kidnapping to aggravated assault to drunk driving. Administration Lets Drunk Driving Illegal Aliens Go Free

JudicialWatch recently published a government memo directing Border Patrol agents to release unlawful foreigners driving drunk, a policy that is a serious threat to the safety of law-abiding Americans. In response, Fox News interviewed Mary Ann Mendoza, the mother of a Mesa Arizona police officer who was killed by a drunk driving illegal alien last May.

Officer Brandon Mendoza (pictured) was on his way home from work when his car was hit head-on by a blotto drunk Mexican who had driven 35 miles the wrong way on the highway. The Mexican had been previously arrested for burglary and assaulting a policeman in Colorado, but was not deported.

So Mary Ann Mendoza was angry at the preventable death of her 32-year-old son and wrote a letter to the President:

“President Obama,

“I am writing this letter to you regarding illegal immigrants.

“As a tax paying, law abiding citizen of the United States, I WANT my voice heard on this issue. My son, Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, an officer who was with the City of Mesa, Arizona police department, was killed in a tragic head on collision on May 12, 2014 by a wrong way driver on our freeways. This man happened to be an illegal immigrant, was in this country illegally, convicted of previous crimes, no Social Security number, no valid driver’s license BUT he had purchased a vehicle and registered it to drive in Maricopa County Arizona.

“I had my son’s life STOLEN from me by a man who didn’t value his life, was 3X the legal limit drunk, was high on Meth, drove for over 35 miles THE WRONG WAY on 4 different freeways and had NO BUSINESS BEING IN THIS COUNTRY!!! [. . .]

The whole letter and Mary Ann’s interview with Bill O’Reilly are published in my July blog, Arizona Officer Killed by Drunk-Driving Illegal Alien Is Remembered.

Here’s the article from Judicial Watch, revealing the government memo that shows this administration cares nothing about public safety:

Border Patrol Ordered to Release Drunk Drivers, “Allow Them to Go On Their Way”, Judicial Watch, February 13, 2015

The Obama administration has ordered federal agents responsible for protecting one of the nation’s busiest and most crime-infested regions near Mexico to stop apprehending drunk drivers, according to an internal government memo that also concedes an officer that elects to detain them is “acting within the course and scope of his employment.”

Obtained by Judicial Watch this week, the notice is titled “Enforcement Options With Alcohol-Impaired Drivers” and directs the 4,000-plus U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Tucson, Arizona sector to “release” individuals under the influence and “allow them to go on their way.” The document acknowledges that this feels counter-intuitive for Border Patrol agents, but eases concerns by answering a hypothetical question for the officers who have sworn to uphold the law: “If you allow this driver to continue down the road and they kill someone, aren’t you liable?” The answer is no, according to the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo. “There is no legal requirement for a Border Patrol agent to intervene in a state crime, including DUI,” the order says, adding that “therefore there is generally no liability that will attach to the agent or agency for failing to act in this situation.” Continue reading this article
