Rep Luis Gutierrez has been traveling America in recent weeks with a 20-city Amnesty Expedition, similar to the one he made in 2009, which I documented first hand (Speaker Pelosi Boards Gutierrez Amnesty Express).

What’s different on this trip is Gutierrez’ demand that President Obama bypass the uncooperative Congress entirely and use his executive power to reward foreign lawbreakers with a path to citizenship. Obama already stated on Univision in Spanish that he wouldn’t end deportations with the proverbial pen stroke, so it’s doubtful he would fork over the big amnesty enchilada. However, as miserable reelection poll numbers accumulate, Obama might be inclined to do more for his Mexican base.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in California is 12 percent even as of March. A massive amnesty of the sort Gutierrez envisions would transform millions of aliens into legal workers who could more easily compete with unemployed citizens for jobs.

Below is a video of Gutierrez making his pitch to an appreciative audience, possibly in Detroit, judging by the date and tag on the Tube.

Rep. Gutierrez is heading to Mexifornia this week, with appearances up and down the state. Feel free to welcome him appropriately to your community.

Even though there has been a tsunami of false reporting from the liberal media characterizing the new Arizona immigration law as racist oppression, the American people are not impressed by the illegal aliens making noisy demands for amnesty. The citizens’ desire for immigration order is revealed by the recent Rasmussen poll, which showed only a quarter of those polled were positively inclined toward the Raza squawkers.

25% Have Favorable Opinion of Immigration Rights Protesters, 50% Unfavorable, May 4, 2010

Following weekend protests against the new Arizona law cracking down on illegal immigration, support for the Arizona policy remains unchanged.

However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 25% have a favorable view of those who marched and protested for immigrant rights in major cities. Fifty percent (50%) hold an unfavorable opinion and another 26% are not sure.

Fifty-nine percent (59%) of voters still favor legislation like Arizona’s that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. Thirty-two percent (32%) oppose such a law. Those figures are virtually unchanged from a week ago.

The support remains even though 57% of voters are at least somewhat concerned that efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens. Forty percent (40%) do not share that concern.

Those figures include 27% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations and 17% who are not at all concerned.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) also continue to support a welcoming immigration policy that only keeps out “national security threats, criminals and those who would come here to live off our welfare system.” Twenty-six percent (26%) do not agree with that goal for U.S. immigration policy. Seventeen percent (17%) more are not sure. [...]

As on many issues, there is a wide gap between the Political Class and Mainstream Americans. Seventy percent (70%) of Mainstream voters support legislation that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. Sixty-six percent (66%) of the Political Class oppose such a law.

This helps explain the difficulty Congress has in coming up with immigration reform legislation that passes muster with voters. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Mainstream voters continue to view controlling the border as the top priority of any such legislation, while 70% of the Political Class say legalizing the status of the millions of undocumented workers already in the country is most important.

Three-out-of-four voters believe that the federal government is not doing enough to secure the nation’s borders. In fact, 56% believe that the policies of the federal government encourage illegal immigration. [...]

Below is a photo I took on Saturday at San Francisco’s May Day Marxican extravaganza, where the commie icon Che was quite popular. Is flaunting such extremist views a good way to win friends and influence people?

For some really great Marxican pix, see El Marco’s selection from Denver: Aztlan Astroturf.

The Archbishop of Los Angeles never met an illegal alien he didn’t like (or child-abusing priest either), and now that he has his own blog (!) he can deliver propaganda in a whole new modern format.

No surprise, Roger Mahony (pictured at right) is condemnatory toward Arizona’s new legislation (not yet law!) that comes down tough on illegal aliens, who at best are merely stealing citizens’ jobs and at worst are killing and pillaging.

According to this self-appointed paragon of virtue (a pedophile priest protector, according to the LA Times in 2006), citizens who want their immigration laws enforced are Nazis and Commies.

Arizona’s Dreadful Anti-Immigrant Law, April 18, 2010

The law is wrongly assuming that Arizona residents, including local law enforcement personnel, will now shift their total attention to guessing which Latino-looking or foreign-looking person may or may not have proper documents. That’s also nonsense. American people are fair-minded and respectful. I can’t imagine Arizonans now reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques whereby people are required to turn one another in to the authorities on any suspicion of documentation. Are children supposed to call 911 because one parent does not have proper papers? Are family members and neighbors now supposed to spy on one another, create total distrust across neighborhoods and communities, and report people because of suspicions based upon appearance?

Various cities and states have tried such abhorrent tactics over the decades with absolutely no positive effect. Such laws have all been struck down by courts or repealed by wise citizens. Sadly, such laws lead to a new round of immigrant-bashing–usually in times of economic downturn.

In fact, this criminal hypocrite should be prosecuted rather than left in his august position. In 2007 Mahony paid out a record $660 million to abuse victims of his diocese. The recent uptick of interest in child-abusing clerics has refocused the spotlight on Cardinal Mahony, e.g. this item:

Cardinal Roger Mahony Shielded Molesting Priest, Say Court Docs, CBS, September 24, 2009

Cardinal Roger Mahony ordered a subordinate to delay reporting sexual abuse claims to the police until the priest in question could be defrocked, according to testimony by a former high-ranking official with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

He also decided not to tell parishioners about the allegations, according to court papers filed Friday.

The claims were contained in a motion filed by plaintiff attorneys in Los Angeles County Superior Court and were based on the recent deposition of former vicar for clergy Monsignor Richard Loomis. A transcript of the deposition was attached.

Cardinal Mahony is a filthy pervert priest protector, yet he has the gall to stigmatize honest citizens who want to save their country.

In addition, see the clip from Deliver Us from Evil (unembeddable, unfortunately) of the 2004 court deposition of Cardinal Mahony, where he was asked whether a priest’s sexual urges toward a 9-year-old should be cause to remove him and Mahony said, “No.”
